a warm welcome by Andrea, the charismatic owner, made a promising start to our stay at barbablu. The room had some quirky elements and the bathroom was tiled in a modern way. The long towels on the floor were a but of a mystery untill we used the shower and found that gravity and water ask for a different position of the drain, hence the towels on the floor. Still the view on the vulcano is great and so is the shared terrace. The breakfast in the pleasant garden was beautiful and involved apple marmelade with white wine and apricot jam with prosecco and more of these touches of style. Still the pricetag is a bit of a worry in july and especially August. It's a lovely place with a great host and an ecclectic but stylish feel but for our taste price-quality were out of balance. When we checked out Andrea said there were numerous hydrofoils from the island. when we arrived at the harbour we had to wait 5 hours though for the next one. This left us with a strange taste in our mouths: why did Andrea (who told us he had been on the island for over 30 years) not advised us to hang around a bit longer? instead we ended up waiting and waiting in the rather uneventful port. Tip: make a reservation online for a climb of the vulcano: an experience not to be missed.
