“A rare and wonderful travel delight”
Reviewed October 4, 2006

I can not overstate how wonderful a host Wallace is. While new to the B&B world, he is all heart and joy and sincerity. He made us laugh, delighted out baby girl, shared his wine, and offered homemade bread. He even ran out to get a gift when he found out it was my birthday. He truly made us feel at home and he goes through great lengths to make your stay memorable. He is also filled with ideas and suggestions for tiny hilltowns and cafes that we would not have ever discovered. I have stayed in places that are equally nice, but never in one that is equally memorable. Trust the reviews and find a friend in Spolento with Wallace. Spoleto is a charming town and a wonderful base for exploring the countless charms of Umbria. The Arthouse is stylish and spacious and located in a dramatic tower in the middle of Spoleto. This place is a rare opportunity to instantly feel like a local in a wonderful part of Italy and to feel like you are staying with a close friend and gracious host. The Arthouse is also a tremendous value and we will certainly go back.

I don’t know what else I could add to the other excellent reviews and photos. Our stay couldn’t have been more perfect. Our room was very clean and had some really interesting design elements.
The breakfast table was a place to share ideas on how to spend the day, what sights to see, and where to get the best meal. Wallace is a great person to know and who I’m sure will make your stay very memorable. Don’t hesitate to go!

We stayed four glorious days with Wallace. You will not find a kinder man. He is the host with the most! From the time you enter his historic tower home, you are made to feel as if it is your home. He welcomes you with a glass of sparkling wine and your delightful stay begins. At breakfast, you are treated to a nice assortment of foodstuffs including homemade bread. I fell in love with blood orange juice. He is in the kitchen with you and other guests making you fresh coffee or tea and helping you (if you need help) plan your day. Our room was spacious and very quiet at night. Currently, about once a month, Wallace is host for a special event: Wallace graciously provides artisans the use of his wonderful living room space to showcase their talents. Hence the name Arthouse. We were two of about 40 audience members for a concert of four extremely talented musicians. Spoleto is an excellent base for traveling in the Umbrian area. We enjoyed the town of Spoleto: for us, it was just the right size, offering enough diversity of shops, restaurants and sights to keep us entertained. The most special/unique feature of Spoleto that distinguishes itself from all other hilltop towns is the aquaduct that you get to actually walk across. What a pleasant stroll to walk to the Duomo/piazza area, view the church, then walk the pedestrian only pathway to the aquaduct, taking in the gorgeous vistas as you stroll. Wallace also pulled together an impromptu celebration of birthday/anniversary for guests while we were there. Spoleto got high marks from us and staying with Wallace absolutely was a treat.!!

This is a wonderful spot away from the usual tourist destination.
Wallace is a gracious and generous host and not only is his location superb but the accomodation is bright and certainly matches and in many cases beats most 5 star accomodation.
You will not be disappointed.

We’ve just returned from a most excellent sojourn at Wallace’s Arthouse in Spoleto. The location and quality of the accommodation are both excellent (and excellent value for money). However, what sets the Arthouse head and shoulders above anywhere else we’ve stayed is the host - Wallace.

From the moment he picked us up at the station to him dropping us off for our return to Rome, Wallace could not have done more to make our stay the most enjoyable possible. His knowledge of the town and surrounding area is impeccable – pointing us to the sights that would be to our interest and providing recommendations for some fantastic eateries. As we didn’t have access to a car he even insisted on taking us out to visit some of his favourite spots in the vicinity. Back at the Arthouse, Wallace’s conviviality ensured our experience was more akin to staying with an old friend than in a hotel.

So – if you’re planning a trip to this corner of Umbria, we’d thoroughly recommend that you pay Wallace a visit – but don’t all book at once – we want to go back!

My two brothers and I stayed at Wallace's in July. The trip was wonderful. Spoleto is great but staying in Wallace's B&B made the trip so much better. The place should be in Architectural Digest. It is very clean and comfortable. Wallace adds alot to the place with his great personality. You will feel 'at home' when staying with Wallace because hospitality and kindness are his unwavering attributes. You'll love it!

We stayed at Wallace' Art House for 3 days on our honeymoon. The place is set on a scenic hilltop overlooking Spoleto, with the city of Asissi faintly visable about 15 miles in the distance. The house is located near shops, a nice combination of indigenous Italy interspersed with some shopping areas geared to tourists. But it is not too overdone,

The accomdations were fine - a well-designed room with modern furnishing and a bathroom in our room. The proprietor is an artist by trade, and his artistic sentiment is reflected in how the house has been re-designed.

Probably the best benefit of the place was Wallace himself. He picked us up at the trainstation, and helped us get a rental car. He recommended sensational restaurants that only a local could know about. And he gave us guidance on the best actvities in Spoleto and the surronding areas. All that, and he even prepared a sumptious breakfast each day! Well worth the stay.
