Le Logge di Silvignano
Ranked #16 of 48 Spoleto B&B and Inns
Reviewed July 8, 2010

I stayed here with my friends for 4 nights. We arrived late at night and Alberto was waiting out on the road for us as I had text him when I was about a half hour away. Alberto was very kind and helpful and brought us some wine on request and Italian Ham and olives (not on request) as it was 11pm and we were tired and hungry.

Le logge is not very far from Spoleto but it is high up in the hills, therefore there is a lovely view of the surrounding countryside. It is a great location to explore Umbria and you are located only a few minutes from a motorway also despite feeling that you are in the middle of nowhere.

We had a lovely stay in this area and I would highly recommend the Logge. However I felt it was very very overpriced at €1000 for four nights based on what we got. I have stayed in several agritourismos and I generally tend to try opt for some of the best and I am happy to pay the price. However in this case I do not think it was good value at all. Firstly there was no breakfast included although they do leave coffee, corn flakes and milk in your room on the first night. Although our apartment was lovely the two (smaller than) single beds in the loft were not suitable for adults. My 2 female friends were sleeping in each of them, thankfully. However the beds were so narrow they continuously felt like they were going to fall out of the bed during the night never mind the noise that they made when you moved in the bed. My own room had a four poster bed and it was perfect and extremely comfortable.

May I add Alberto was very helpful whenever we met him and it is a beautiful place but I do think it is very overpriced and it is not good value for money. For us the real sting came when we were asked to pay €50 on check out for the cleaning of the apartment. For this price of €1000 for 4 days, I would have expected our room to have been serviced every day or at least have removed the rubbish from the bins never mind being charged €50 at the end of our stay for cleaning.

The grounds and scenery are breathtaking. The restored home (originally from the 11th-15th centuries) is done so tastefully -- the rooms are not only lovely but also very comfortable. We loved the location (high on a hill with views of Umbrian wine country) and the accomodations were impeccable. Our room (a 2-person suite) had a separate bedroom, a large living area, and kitchen area for cooking. Our hosts, Diana and Alberto, left us with enough groceries to have breakfast for our 4-night stay (with some left!). As visually captivating as the Logge is, it was our hosts Diana and Alberto that made our stay extremely memorable. They shared the beauty of the Umbrian countryside and towns with us, so we could just leave your guidebooks at home. They were gracious, warm, charming, and eager to help us appreciate all of the beauty, history, and culture that Umbria has to offer. The Logge is beautiful, but Diana and Alberto really set it apart from other places you might consider staying.

We stayed here end of June this Year. This hotel was incredible! First of all our hosts Diana and Alberto; they were very helpfull and friendly and welcomed us with a fresh cup of tea and home baked cake. Every morning we were suprised by new freshly baked cakes. They helped us with tickets for the opera and we even went with them and other guests to this opera, but not before we had dinner whith them in Spoleta. They had several good tips for restaurants and places to go. Then the other thing: The House!! They rebuild a part of the village from the middle ages outside from SPoleto in hotel rooms and appartments. It was very nicely done and cosy and so special.
We loved staying here and would recommend it to everybody who likes a charming place with a personal touch.

Our #1 Favorite

We just returned to the States from a 3 l/2 week visit to Italy. We stayed in Rome, Umbria, Florence, CinqueTerre and Tuscany. The trip was wonderful and we stayed at very nice places, but our #1 favorite place, by far, was Le Logge di Silvignano. Our suite was beautiful, the views and sunsets were spectacular, the breakfasts were delicious, but the thing that makes Le Logge di Silvignano so special are the hosts, Alberto and Diana. They are both so warm and friendly and were so accommodating and helfpul with suggestions, recommendations and phone calls. We cannot recommend this place highly enough.

It is truly hard to describe Le Logge di Silvignano. We had spent 3 1/2 weeks touring Italy and Greece extensively and absloutely saved the best for the last. To spend one week in Umbria at Le Logge di Silvignano made us wish that we could stay for the summer. An excellant way to unwind and just be, the panorama is breathtaking and the grounds and surroundings beautiful. The location although it is a little ways from the city was perfect and central to our sightseeing. Nature walks in the olive fields, swimming, 5 minutes to fabulous restaurants and coffee bars.

Alberto and Diana are the most gracious hosts and we will definately return. They provided extensive assistance with helping to find restaurants, monasteries, waterfalls, world war cemetaries, tickets to the Spoleto Festival, last minute directions to a play (using maps, internet and then by telephoning the local police department and telephoning our cellular so that we (namely our young son) would not miss the Pied Piper! The accomodation was beautiful, immaculate and peaceful and we were hesitant to leave the property to explore Umbria. We had deep, restful sleeps each night (black out drapes and beautiful linens) and started every morning with a delicious breakfast. You will not regret taking a chance to stay at Le Logge di Silvignano and will return again and again I am sure.

After finally finding this charming B&B, it was completely worth the trek. Alberto and Diana are the most lovely hosts and go out of their way to make you feel comfortable. Our room was very comfortable and well-appointed. However, it's less about the room and more about the experience of staying at La Logge that makes the difference. On our first night, Diana invited us to share wine and cheese with them on their beautiful terrace overlooking the entire valley. The sunset was gorgeous, the wine outstanding, and the hospitality was incredible.

The breakfast in the morning is quite nice...they grow their own olive trees, so you are enjoying their own olive oil and fresh picked olives. The coffee is strong and delicious.

When you stay at La Logge, you feel like you are a guest in the home of an old friend. I highly recommend this place for a quiet but fulfilling experience. It's also very easy to drive to many of the different cities in Umbria from this central location - even if on the top of a hill in seemingly the middle of nowhere.

The Historic House Le Logge di Silvignano is one of the most significant examples of Medieval architecture in the Spoleto County. Built from the X to the XV Century it is listed by the Italian Ministry for the Arts and Envinronment. Le Logge di Silvignano, our home, is for us Diana and Alberto a "love affair", the carrying out of our common life project. The House offers a wide garden with swimming pool overlooking the Umbrian Valley,The 5000 sqm Garden is divided in two parts. The one on the House front was once the old "hortus", now with two centuries-old fig trees, in the shade of which you can sit and read in summertime. The main part of the garden is surrounded by big oak, elms and olive trees, the swimming pool in the centre, and over 200 plants among lavender, rosemary, thyme, myrtle, abelia, cartegus, broom and pomegranate, and more than 50 different kind of rose. The Pool is located in the most panoramic but reserved part of the garden, sunny from sunrise to sunset, equipped with sunbeds, umbrellas, and areas in the shade. Le Logge di Silvignano consist of 3 Apartments and a Villa and a Tower House. We personally cared for and supervised the restoration of the buildings, preserving their characteristics, the spaces and the original athmosphere. The architectural details have been enhanced, the antique floor cotto tiles have been reclaimed Some of the furnitures are antique, some are made by local artisans. Bed linen and linen curtains are wowen on the antique Montefalco looms, art ceramics are from Deruta and Torgiano, and family paintings and furnitures are "blended" toghether. We tried to match all of this with the standards of comfort, elegance and privacy we would expect in our ideal holiday, wishing our guests share it with us.Internet Wireless Connection. The House can be rented in full, and can host up to 20 people The Apartments are from 55 to 75 sqm space, independent entrance, with a comfortable living space, one or two bedrooms, kitchen and bathroom with shower. Some with fireplace or terrace overlooking the valley and the village. They can host 2 to 4 persons. The House of Ulysses Lovely comfortable Villa with independent entrance, with wide terrace overlooking the valley.
