Le Logge di Silvignano
Ranked #17 of 49 Spoleto B&B and Inns
Reviewed June 25, 2009

After finally finding this charming B&B, it was completely worth the trek. Alberto and Diana are the most lovely hosts and go out of their way to make you feel comfortable. Our room was very comfortable and well-appointed. However, it's less about the room and more about the experience of staying at La Logge that makes the difference. On our first night, Diana invited us to share wine and cheese with them on their beautiful terrace overlooking the entire valley. The sunset was gorgeous, the wine outstanding, and the hospitality was incredible.

The breakfast in the morning is quite nice...they grow their own olive trees, so you are enjoying their own olive oil and fresh picked olives. The coffee is strong and delicious.

When you stay at La Logge, you feel like you are a guest in the home of an old friend. I highly recommend this place for a quiet but fulfilling experience. It's also very easy to drive to many of the different cities in Umbria from this central location - even if on the top of a hill in seemingly the middle of nowhere.

You can't get more: Spectecular views on the Valle d'Umbria, a beautiful garden with swimmingpool, ideal location for exploring the region - historic towns as well as the Valnerina - charming rooms with a lot of atmosphere, most charming and caring hosts - Diana and Alberto make you feel at home from the very beginning and give you really profound advice on tours, restaurants and wines. Seducing breakfast with homemade jams, olive oil, fruit, fresh bread, local cheeses and a freshly baked cake every morning (Alberto's special!). Dinner - on request - is wonderfully done by Diana with fresh local product . A place you feel sad to leave and long to come back to.

I stayed at Le Logge di Silvignano for three nights with friends who have stayed here many times before. They love it so much they keep coming back - and after my stay I fully understand why! Highlights of my stay included: enjoying the stunning countryside and charming nearby villages; the top notch accommodation; and Diana and Alberto's personal touch - they were so helpful and accommodating of our wishes (in particular they provided really useful suggestions in relation to exploring the nearby area) - and we really enjoyed their home made cakes and olive oil! Their English is also excellent which was fortunate because my Italian is not so good!

There were no downsides - it is the perfect place to stay if you want to relax and enjoy the gorgeous Umbrian countryside!

We can’t find words enough to praise Le Logge di Silvignano and hosts Diana and Alberto. This place is simply fantastic. We loved it so much last year that we planned our return trip to Europe this year almost around spending another three days at Le Logge di Silvignano. The accommodation is terrific. A series of very old buildings lovingly restored to first class spacious apartments. The setting in a small village on a hillside overlooking the Umbrian countryside is as spectacular as it sounds.

But the highlight of staying at Le Logge di Silvignano is hosts Diana and Alberto. Although we have only stayed with them twice we feel like they are old friends such is their hospitality. Nothing is too much trouble including advice on local daytrips, great advice on local restaurants, catering for special breakfast needs, Internet access and even inviting us to dinner in their home on our last night. Let Diana know over breakfast what you like to do and she will help you plan a tailored itinerary that you will not find in the guide books.

We have stayed in two apartments during our stays. Le Arches is large and very comfortable with stone walls and ceilings so you know you are in Umbria from the minute you open your eyes in the morning. Le Logge is even larger and is on the first floor where the views are amazing – don’t miss the sunset. Both have functional kitchens with limited utensils - don’t plan on cooking here, but who needs to with many great local restaurants.

We can highly recommend this accommodation and our only disappointment is that Silvignano is so far away from our home in Australia otherwise we would visit again next weekend.

Le Logge di Silvignano is such a special place that I do not think that words can do it justice. What makes it so special? Firstly, the location is amazing as the house is situated in a small peaceful village overlooking the Umbrian countryside which seems to stretch for ever. Secondly, Alberto and Diana are the most attentive hosts who obviously love what they do. Alberto and Diana know everything about the area and are able to suggest places to see, things to do and restaurants to eat at. Alberto and Diana even prepared lunch for us on our day of arrival and also cooked us a wonderful dinner one evening. Both are trained sommeliers and have a well stocked cellar of regional wines.

We stayed in the Iride suite which was very spacious comprising a lounge area, sparkling bathroom stocked with Bvulgari products and a good sized bedroom. The rooms are pristine and I have to say the cleanest we have ever stayed in. The housekeeper comes and cleans every day. The bed linen is just that, pure linen from nearby Montefalco.

Although Le Logge di Silvignano is located in a small village, there are no shortage of really good restaurants nearby. Two restaurants which we ate at are less than a 5 minute drive from the house.

Visting in summer meant that we had breakfast on the terrace which was quite a treat as the views are amazing. Alberto bakes a different cake for breakfast every day and our favourite was the chocolate and hazelnut which was made from hazelnuts picked from Alberto and Diana's own tree.

If you are looking for a retreat where you can totally relax, then this place is for you. We fell in love and upon our return to London, promptly organised another trip for September.

Le Logge di Silvignano is faultless. Thank you Alberto and Diana.

This property deserves the excellent reviews you see here. Diana and Alberto, the cultured and charming hosts, have made this property into an elegant, unique and welcoming B&B. The hosts have impeccable taste, and have decorated the individual suites and common areas with many beautiful touches. They manage to be as hospitable as possible, while giving guests enough space to relax and feel at home on the lovely grounds.

It took me 9 months to find the time to write about our stay, but the memories are still vivid. We are wine enthusiasts, and the first night, although it was cool and wet outside (unseasonably so for early September) we were warmly welcomed by Alberto, and shared several delicious glasses of the local wines with him in the inn's Enoteca, while he graciously shared descriptions of many of his favorite local outings and restaurants with us, and answered question after question.

We met Diana the next morning at breakfast, where we tried not to overindulge at the lavish breakfast spread, all the while Diana entertained us with lively instructions of what to do and see while in the area.

We stayed in the Eliadue suite, and enjoyed its little private terrace with a panoramic view of the Umbrian hills and valley.
My only tiny issue is with Italian beds in general: if you are used to a cushy mattress top, these will seem very hard. the bed linens are wonderful, though.

On the last night, we accepted their suggestion to have a private dinner cooked for us as a way to celebrate our anniversary. We asked only for "local specialties and wines" and Diana made three marvelous courses, while Alberto chose the wines, created a sinfully good dessert and served us throughout. The table was beautifully set with the exquisite linens they make locally.

It was one of the best meals we enjoyed in Umbria (and we had many delicious ones, too). If you would like a tranquil and beautiful alternative to staying in Spoleto, this is it (it's about a 20 minute drive to town).

"We want to spend our honeymoon in a place we won't forget" we promised each other. But we actually thought it was more a wish than a real chance.
We were wrong, it was a omen.
Le Logge di Silvignano is more than unforgettable.
The place is magic, the environment unspoiled, Diana and Alberto warm and friendly; and what to say about the silence among oak and olive trees, the pleasant noise of swallows catching flies over the swimming pool surface while we sipping our drinks on the pool board watching the sun setting down at the end of the umbrian valley; all was perfect.
We planned a three days stay, but we remained two days more, promising ourselves we will be soon back.

The Historic House Le Logge di Silvignano is one of the most significant examples of Medieval architecture in the Spoleto County. Built from the X to the XV Century it is listed by the Italian Ministry for the Arts and Envinronment. Le Logge di Silvignano, our home, is for us Diana and Alberto a "love affair", the carrying out of our common life project. The House offers a wide garden with swimming pool overlooking the Umbrian Valley,The 5000 sqm Garden is divided in two parts. The one on the House front was once the old "hortus", now with two centuries-old fig trees, in the shade of which you can sit and read in summertime. The main part of the garden is surrounded by big oak, elms and olive trees, the swimming pool in the centre, and over 200 plants among lavender, rosemary, thyme, myrtle, abelia, cartegus, broom and pomegranate, and more than 50 different kind of rose. The Pool is located in the most panoramic but reserved part of the garden, sunny from sunrise to sunset, equipped with sunbeds, umbrellas, and areas in the shade. Le Logge di Silvignano consist of 3 Apartments and a Villa and a Tower House. We personally cared for and supervised the restoration of the buildings, preserving their characteristics, the spaces and the original athmosphere. The architectural details have been enhanced, the antique floor cotto tiles have been reclaimed Some of the furnitures are antique, some are made by local artisans. Bed linen and linen curtains are wowen on the antique Montefalco looms, art ceramics are from Deruta and Torgiano, and family paintings and furnitures are "blended" toghether. We tried to match all of this with the standards of comfort, elegance and privacy we would expect in our ideal holiday, wishing our guests share it with us.Internet Wireless Connection. The House can be rented in full, and can host up to 20 people The Apartments are from 55 to 75 sqm space, independent entrance, with a comfortable living space, one or two bedrooms, kitchen and bathroom with shower. Some with fireplace or terrace overlooking the valley and the village. They can host 2 to 4 persons. The House of Ulysses Lovely comfortable Villa with independent entrance, with wide terrace overlooking the valley.
