“magnifico”

Just had the immense pleasure and privilege of visiting Novecento 'Casual Restaurant, coffee shop and wine bar'. It is situated on the via Porta Fuga in Spoleto, Italy. The décor is eclectically charming, the atmosphere - fun, calm and enjoyable. The description by the owner as a 'Casual restaurant' seems inadequate, I can only say that there was nothing casual about the food, Cooked by 'Mum' , who is now training other son to carry on the family tradition we hope they go from strength to strength.
Unsure what to choose from the varied menu we decided on a special '900' platter which we had seen being eaten on the night previously whilst just dropping in for a vino or two! It looked pretty good. Advised by the owner/host to just order the platter first before deciding on our second course - it was a wise decision as it was quite filling but also very delicious. We 'forced' our selves to have a second course this did not disappoint either, we did not have a desert although I suspect they would have been equally enjoyable. The host and his attractive waitress were very helpful, attentive but not overly so, leaving us to enjoy the food and wine - the house wines were truly good but the recommendation made by the host made our last evening meal there very special.
Novecento has only been open for a couple of years but both I and my husband agree that it won't be long before another one is up and running, hopefully so, because everything works well, the owner and his family deserves much praise for their obvious hard work in the running of the place. On the 3 nights we visited people were unable to get a seat as all tables were taken or reserved, so we would recommend booking. 900 is not a huge place but oh so very delightful, we wish it was just around the corner from where we live in England as we would be eating out every day!!!! Our many thanks to the owner for making our stay in Spoleto and our evening meals such a great experience. Good luck to them in any future projects they may decide to take on.
Spoleto was my first visit to Italy and I was not disappointed.

“A Wonderful Find!”
Reviewed September 25, 2013

During our four night stay in Spoleto, we ate at this restaurant twice. We had a very tasty mixed antipasti. I had the Strangozzi with truffles and my husband had the Cinghiale pasta. The food was so good, that we came back the next day to enjoy our last dinner in Spoleto. The staff is wonderful. They helped us with the Italian menu and were so very nice. The restaurant seems to have a lot of locals eating there so that's always a good sign. And the prices are very reasonable.

Be sure to check our this restaurant if you are in Spoleto....you will not be sorry!

“A great neighborhood gem with lots of locals, wonderful food, good prices”
Reviewed September 22, 2013

We've been coming to Spoleto for about 10 years now and decided to try out this restaurant when our local hosts, Norma and Laurie, raved about it. They were right -- the food really good and the service is prompt, courteous and professional. Of special note - the house wine is very tasty, definitely a cut above the house wines you will find at many other restaurants in Umbria. Many of the restaurants in Spoleto over the past 10 years have evolved into "tourist" restaurants and food quality has declined in some. It's great to ahve this addition - clearly there is someone back in the kitchen who is creative, uses wonderful ingredients, and delights in making our taste buds happy.

They have been "discovered" and are often completely booked so be sure to call in advance for a reservation. Try this one out -- you won't be disappointed.

“What a gem”
Reviewed August 20, 2013

We were just looking for a place to have a late lunch after a long trip to Spoleto, and this cozy little place was the nearest to our hotel. Thank goodness that it was! The gentleman seated next to our table was served a pasta dish (Strangozzi with truffles) which looked good, so I ordered it. It turned out to be the finest dish of its ilk I ever have eaten, so good, in fact, that I had it twice more during our three-day stay. Perhaps even more wonderful (if that is possible) was the house wine, a Volpolicelli which exceeded by a country mile any other wine I had during our weeks in Europe. I could rave for hours about the food and service at this little gem of a restaurant. Suffice to say, if you find yourself in Spoleto and bypass this place, you will be doing yourself a huge disservice.
