All parts of the Roman Amphitheatre are accessible - much more so than many other better known ones. You can see where the green colored marble facing is still in position in some places and there is a spring still running into a little pool near the arched walkways running underneath the cavea (tiered seating). The Museo collection is very well presented and has excellent information on the early history of Spoleto and surroundings - in English too, something that is not that common in Italy! If you're interested in ancient history, this is a must.

There are three floors and lots of rooms so give it plenty of time and don't go before lunch or you will run out of energy.

A quick visit to this Museum will give the visitor a real insight into the early development of the Umbrian people and the absorption of this region into the growing Roman empire. As fascinating as the history of the Roman Empire is, I also like to find out about the 'pre-Roman' Italians, and that is something that this museum does very well.

There is also a fascinating "Last Supper" fresco extant in one of the rooms of the building which was part of a former convent. Not unlike Da Vinci's much more famous Last Supper in Milan, but with Saint Agnes making an interesting addition to the company.

Also, great views of the amphitheatre from the loggia of the museum.
