We stayed in Spoleto for 1 week en 6 times we ate in this wonderfull restaurant. We discovered it by accident, just aside of the Piazza del Mercato. At first we hesitated because of the buildingsite next door. But the reception by the owner of the restaurant did it for us. Gentle, attentive and thoughtful. After the third time the owner came with suggestions to try a meal that was not on the menu. He watched and listened carefully wther or note we liked his discription. Every dinner we had either Antipasti/Primi Piatti, Secundo and Dolce. The Montefalco wine supported the plates wonderful.

Seeking refuge from a noisy day of building and rebuilding in Spoleto. We found this restaurant off the beaten path. Had a great lunch, very friendly service. Walls adorned with line drawings depicting scenes in Venice as well as poster art from the Spoleto Music Festival from past years.

Great place! Attentive owner/host watches over everything. Food wonderful, with some truffle specialties. Delicate grilled veggies, superb desert. Warm, friendly atmosphere, with local patrons. Not too expensive. You are treated like a valued guest, even if a tourist.
There was construction next door at thetime (may 2009), we are glad we decided to go regardless. Funny, it was also suggested by the guy in Salumeria in the plaze below (it is also worth a visit, no sales pressure).

We read up quite extensively before our expedition to Spoleto. With high expectations for lunch one of the many courted restaurants, but a desire to eat well and al fresco, we did some local research. The owner of the salumeria in the Piazza Mercato recommended this family-run, home-cooking gem. Initially we were wary of the restoration work nearby, but the good quality of the work was the only topic of conversation. There followed the sort of meal we Brits come all this way for. Simple, seasonal, local ingredients and small and tailored menu, served with warmth and familiarity. Just the right options for lunch: fixed price, a la carte, and sharing . Not extensive, but so much the better. We opted for the two-person sharing menu; an antipasto of bruschetta with truffle and olive, another with seasoned fresh tomato, lightly fried aubergine & a freshly made croquette. Slices of robust local salame & proscuitto etc. Not overly filling, just right. The second course of the local pasta, strangozzi, came with a seasonal option of young aparagi, which the patron recommended. We not only feasted our eyes but our taste buds. No seasoning or cheese required. We accompanied the meal with a bottle of good local wine (Belvedere) & followed with two of the best caffe machiati I've had during my long stay here. The bill was an extremely reasonable 50 Euro. What more can we say!

We went here for lunch initially, and really liked it. We had the simple lunch menu - ('Veloce', or quick menu) and the ravioli was superb. So we went back the next day for dinner, and had a lovely meal. The price was also reasonable - a little less than some surrounding places.
The owner is very friendly and very cheerful. Some English is spoken, and the menu is translated.
The place is around the corner from the main piazza, and there are signs pointing the way. We have been to Spoleto before, and have eaten at most of the restaurants here. We rate La Barcaccia very highly - unpretentious but very good. 3 courses (including steak and a pasta with truffles) and 2 hearty glasses of wine was 55 Euros
