“Fine, but not a 4 star”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 30, 2013

We stayed in this hotel for a week in August. It is well located and has a lovely swimming pool (which is important if you like swimming, as the sea in Sottomarina is quite dirty). The room had a reasonable size for the two of us plus our toddler, although the bathroom was quite small and had a sliding door. The air conditioner worked well (a must in the italian summer). The room was not pristine clean though, we could see some dust over the furniture when we arrived. There was a baby room with some toys in it, but the light was always off and in the 2 ocassions we make use of it we had to look for staff to have it turned on. Our main disappointment relates to the food which is definitely not at a 4 star level (we went full board). The quality was ok, but within the same week many courses were repeated. Also the salad buffet was the same EVERY day, except for some leftovers of the side dishes of the evening before that were added to this buffet the following day (ie: green beans salad). If you were not fast enough to grab some items from this buffet they were gone and not replaced (ie: pizza). Also the dessert choice was very limited, only fruit (peach, grape, apple, watermelon and some other one - no pineapple or melon), icecream and some dessert of the day. We invited over a guest for dinner one day and he was charged 40 euro excluding drinks for this limited menu. This seemed a bit excesive to us, given that you could dine in one of Dublin's finest restaurants for that price.

We chose this hotel due to high ranks in Tripadvisor and find out that this hotel really deserves it's high ranking. Everything was just as in the images on the site. Room was new and cleaned well every day. Bed linen were changed every 3rd day. The staff fixes very promptly all problems, for instance, such as burned out bulb or locked safe. We and our baby loved the pool of the hotel, which was filled with salt water, always clean. The manager (the owner?) of the hotel was often around, supervising by himself and asking guests for their opinion. Many thanks to receptionists Eleonora and Erica - they are very sincerely friendly and helped us quickly on all our questions. Waitress girls at breakfast were also very nice. What was pleasing also, is the complimentary service at the lobby, such as free maps of Venice, Sottomarina and Chioggia, booklets on local specialties: advised restaurants, historical attractions, local dishes and desserts, etc. Location of the hotel is both their advantage and disadvantage: due to central position it is very close to main attractions, but there were a couple of noisy nights due to a festival that took place in the nearby. However, this was the only drawback of our pleasant almost 2-week stay in this wonderful hotel!

This family run hotel is far enough from Venice to be inexpensive but close enough to Venice to have a day trip (only one hour on public transport). A couple of hundred yards from beautiful beaches (hire charges included in hotel price) but with its own pool and off street parking this hotel is ideal for couples or families. Very popular with Italians, and this is reflected in the restaurant menus, which are plentiful and varied. Very friendly atmosphere in the hotel and the staff have good command of the main European languages for those not brave enough to try out their Italian. We have just had 4 glorious weeks there and it remains at the top of our list of repeat visits.

Room Tip: Rooms 204 to 210 have large balconies

The rooms in this hotel are well appointed but the big draw back for me was the climate control was still set to warm and the weather had heated up so the room was very hot. We turned off the heat but had to open the window and this meant we could hear traffic all night. It was not a gentle background hum. We were there mid April so I can only imagine what it is like in summer. May not bother some but it bothered me. The front desk staff were not helpful the next day. Little interest was shown in my comfort. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone who wants peace and quiet but I would recommend the old town 'little Venice' (Chioggia) which is a short walk from this hotel's location (quite unique and great to visit around 6.00pm when locals come out for a stroll or to meet up for a coffee or a drink) as are numerous private beaches, restaurants and attractions that would appeal to children.

Room Tip: Most rooms face a busy road and if you leave your window open at night this will disturb your sleep...

Dear Travelbag18,

Thank you for leaving us a review regarding your recent stay at our hotel.

On behalf of our entire team, I would like to apologize for not exceeding your expectations. Your satisfaction is important to us and we will be using the feedback you gave us to implement improvements to ensure we offer a better experience for guests in the future.

As concern the climate control, in those days the outside temperature was unexpectedly above the seasonal average and our air converters had not been adjusted yet.

I hope that you will consider staying with us again so that we can have another chance to provide you with a superior experience and to be more helpful in case of need.

If we can provide any assistance, please don't hesitate to contact us.

Sincerely,
BW Hotel Bristol

The Bristol delivered as described, on our short stay. Excellent, careful attention from front desk - helpful beyond the call of duty. Good spacious rooms, with balconies; nice pool with some games available. A little expensive, perhaps, but in high summer must very popular. Chioggia is a mini Venice in itself, with a vibrant atmosphere. Food very good - the only slight drawback being the short window for dinner - best be down for 7.30 if not to feel rushed.

We just got back from a fabulous week stay at Hotel Bristol for our family of four. All staff were very helpful and in particular Elenora at the Guest services desk took care of numerous tour arrangements and travel details. Hotel is centrally located close to beach on the Gulf of Venice and short 15 minute walk to old town of Chioggia. The beach was very close (5 min walk) but we preferred the pool that was immalculate with very good service from Pool attendants. Rooms were spacious on a European standard and very clean. Continential breakfast was outstanding with wide selection of fruit, pastries, cold cuts, and western style eggs with sausages. Hotel provided free bikes that was a bonus and we used them to travel by bike/ferry from Chioggia all the way to Venice Lido for a 40 km round trip and used hem for many short tour around town. We were very pleased with the hotel selection and would recommend this hotel to all our friends as a central base to explorer Venice region.
