“Best Hotel in Sestriere!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 13, 2009

We came to the Cristallo by default as the Hotel we booked (Miramonti) was dropped by Neilsen about 5 monthe before the holiday. We chose the Cristallo for it's position more than anything and was more expensive but money very well spent, it was brilliant and the Miramonti was quite a distance in comparison.
We were a party of 10. Men and women. We had 2 triple rooms and 2 twins. We did ask to change one of the triples as it was a bit cramped. They did it straight away and the room was a good size spotlessy clean and comfortable. The only criticism I had was the rooms were a bit dark. Easily resolved by bigger wattage bulbs! The Hotel is quite formal but all the staff were really friendly and helpful. The food was fabulous, 4 courses beautifully presented and plenty of it, served by the super efficient (but loves a giggle) Pinot.
It's position in relation to the slopes could not be rivalled. Directly over the road from the ski locker room which in turn has direct access to the slopes close to the ski school meeting area. It was a real treat to come off the snow, take off the skis, walk across the road and to our boot room in the basement next to the spa suite.
The ski area from Sestriere is amazing and we had the best snow ever. We all said we would definately return to the Cristallo.

We have just come back from a week skiing at Sestriere, where we stayed in the Hotel Cristallo. We were very impressed with the hotel and would definately recommend it. It's situation opposite the slopes is second to none, you can leave your skis in the Rent & Go depot over the road which is very convenient. We stayed in a standard room on the first floor which was large enough & well equipped. The only negative about the room is that the view was of the emergency exit steps and a brick wall, but to be honest, for the amount of time we spent in the room when we would have looked at the view, it didn't bother us. You can request an upgrade to a room with a view which you may be able to get at a discounted rate if you ask nearer to your arrival date. The only other negative point is that the rooms do not have a bath (only a shower), & I personnaly like to soak in a bath after a days skiing! The restaurant has a Michelin star & the food was fantastic and plentiful - at least 4 courses every night plus more if you wanted, all cooked to a very high standard, and they also have a fantastic wine list of which we tried several and enjoyed them all! There are also complimentary hot drinks & biscuits in the afternoon if you can fit them in! The staff are all very pleasent.
The resort of Sestriere is good & we would return. We're not party animals, but there is enough going on to satisfy most peolple of most ages. The skiing area is very good, although we could have done with some more snow prior to our visit as there were a few patchy areas on the mountains & several lifts were not working which we found frustrating. Most of the runs are red - some easy, some more like black runs, and there are a handful of blues. The skiing ability is suited to most especially intermediates. The infrastructure is good although we did not venture over to the other resorts in the Milky Way as we found there was enough skiing to do in Sestriere.

We stayed at the Cristallo after reading reviews of several hotels in sestriere on Tripadvisor; and are glad we did as they were quite acurate. This was a well located hotel literally across the road from the slopes with a board/ski lockup on route. The staff are very friendly and helpful, the food is fantastic and there is no shortage of it...christmas dinner was 9 course, so half board was fine else we wouldnt of made the slopes.
There is a spa in the basement with jacuzzi, steam room, sauna etc.
The only down point was the size of our room, if I went again I would request a larger room with a view. But I could put up with it if there were none.
Overall we had a good stay and will probably return as the slopes were great and sestriere is a nice relaxed resort with a few bars and restaurants dotted about but believe me if you stay at the Cristallo you wont want restaurants.

Just returned from a weeks skiing at Sestriere and we stayed at the Hotel Cristallo. The location of the hotel is perfect being just across the road from the slopes and the ski school. You leave your ski boots in the hotel "boot room" where they warm nicely overnight ! Skis are stored with the ski hire shop over the road so in the morning you get to the slopes in a few minutes ready for action !

We were lucky enough to have our rooms upgraded to mountain facing rooms and although this means that your room has traffic (and sometimes late night reveller) noise I think it is worth it when you can look out in the morning and see the wonderful views of the mountains and the piste. We stayed over New Year so there were fireworks and celebrations going on outside the hotel.

The rooms which we had were large , very comfortably.furnished , extremely warm and with nice touches like robes and slippers and evening turn down service with chocolates left on the pillows.

Food is plentiful and of a very high standard. A great buffet breakfast gets you off to a flying start and you order you dinner in the morning before you head for the slopes. Dinner is 4 courses plus salad buffet. The quality is excellent and the staff are very friendly.

The hotel has invested in a small Spa which we used every day. The steam room, sauna and jacuzzi helped ease the aching muscles after a hard days skiing.

It is difficult to find fault with the Hotel Cristallo. The bar is a bit boring - not much life there but there are others in the village if you fancy a bit more action. We would have liked tea/coffee making facilities in the rooms and the Spa area could do with drinking water -water cooler or similar. Over all though these are minor issues against what was a very enjoyable week. We were really looked after well by all the staff and a glass of bubbly served with our meal on the final night as a thank you from the hotel was a nice touch.

We look forward to returning - hopefully next New Year.

  • Liked — Quality surroundings, great views, fabulous food and friendly staff
  • Disliked — The bar is too boring - no "apres ski" life !!

I think I am a fair person and always try to see the best in a situation. I just cannot write a good review of this hotel. Our room was pokey and dull. The only window was french doors onto a fire escape that was in a small courtyard with views of walls. I was ill for a few days and spent them in the room - very depressing!

The saving grace for this hotel is location and food. The hotel is a stone's throw from the slopes. the food is excellent quality but the ining room is very cramped. you are designated a table for the duration of the stay and ours was in the middle of two others, both of which were in very close proximity. it was awkward and embarrassing with other guests - we may aswell have shared a table with strangers. another bonus is the hot chocolate in the bar - divine!

The apres ski is almost non existent, so don't think you can escape this hotel that lacks atmosphere for anywhere else.

the experience was topped off by the fact that there was a balcony that looked in to our bathroom, with good views of the bath and toilet. the bathroom did not have a frosted window and the staff never did anything about it after coming to our room and saying they would. we ended up blocking the window up ourselves.

never ever again.

Had a fantastic time at this hotel for a week in January. Paid the extra 50 euro or so to have a window on the slopes, and it was worth it. The food is sensational... and the waiters are brilliant, attentive and friendly in spite of working every-single-day through the high season! (so they told us anyway, after seeing the same guys morning and night all week and finally asking... what gives!?) I can't speak highly enough of the food and service at this hotel. Pop in to the ski shop across the road to the left if you need ski hire too, can't remember their names but the short blonde lady in there is an angel! Turn down service was great, room was comfortable, loved it. gym is 2 or 3 bikes and sauna/spa was often a little crowded but wasn't too bad. can't wait for the opportunity to go back there again. they definitely lived up to olympic expectations!

note though: they could really do with some internet facilities. i don't know if they've jazzed it up since the games, but the one lady in town that offers it charges through the nose and asks for more identification than customs!!!

The hotel is right across from the slopes for convenient skiing. The food is of fantastic quality and Italian rather than international. You are asked to order your evening meal at breakfast but can choose to wait if you prefer.

Breakfast is buffet style continental and has something for most people. You get complementary tea and biscuits in the afternoon in the bar.

The room was clean and spacious. Unfortunately our room was at the back of the hotel and the view was of a fire escape. It was very quiet at night though and some other guest who were staying at the front of the hotel and had great views found their room noisy - so there is good and bad in both options. Didn't use the gym or spa so cannot comment on these.

All staff were extremely friendly and helpful. An example of this is that on our last day, we stayed out skiing until quite late and our clothes got very wet. The housekeeper took our jackets and other garments to the laundry to hang them in a warm room to dry and brought them back dry. There was no charge for this.
