“Beautiful Hotel with an amazing view & great service!”
Reviewed June 17, 2010

This hotel was a great find. It's very beautiful and the staff were very helpful. We chose a modern room which looked great from the pictures on their website. It turned out to be a suite and it was very spacious. There was 1 1/2 bathrooms (1 with a jacuzzi tub and separate shower), there was a nice terrace with a view of the ocean, a huge bedroom with a sitting area, and a large closet. The grounds/gardens were beautiful as well and there was a private beach. The rate included a buffet breakfast and you could sit on the terrace with a view of the ocean. We had dinner at the restaurant one night and the food was very good as was the service. We had a 9:30 pm reservation and had to change it at the last minute as we got back later than expected. They were very accomodating and even though the kitchen closed at 10:30 pm they still took us at 10 pm and treated us no differently then if we had arrived at the original time. We would highly recommend this hotel and hope to return one day. It was the least expensive of all the places we stayed on this trip and it was the nicest and much more than we expected.

We spent 4 nights in the GH dei Castelli, which we picked as a base to visit Cinque Terre. Sestri Levante is a great base to explore the Riviera Levante - both the Northern part (Portofino, Camogli, Santa Margherita Ligura) and the Southern Part (Cinque Terre, Portovenere). It takes roughly 15-20 minutes by foot from the Hotel to the railway station, from which all villages can be easily be reached (forget the car - train and, partly, boats are to way to go in Liguria).

Our rooms were very large and the hotel was very quiet. We had a very large double room (rather a junior suite, even if it was not labelled like this) connected to a smaller one for our two sons. Plenty of space for everyone and everything. The bathrooms were modern and functional.

The hotel building is very special, with very nice decorations.
The hotel personnel was very friendly and the service excellent. We stayed all 4 evenings at the hotel's restaurant, which has great food and a magnificent view on the coast. Also the breakfast buffet was excellent, with a rich choice and good quality.

Altogether value-for-money is very convincing, especially if compared with other locations in the region (like S. Margherita Ligure) and Sestri Levante has it charme - not too turistic and with very nice angles (e.g. Baia del Silenzio)

This historic medieval castle surrounded by the traditional park was reconstructed in early 20th century and converted to a luxury hotel in 1950. Positioned on the highest point in Sestri Levante it overlooks the sea, harbour and the surrounding city.

Rooms in the old wing retain the traditional medieval style and décor despite having been fully renovated to modern standards of comfort. Bright hallways and staircases are decorated with antiquated artefacts and historic paintings.

Their upscale restaurant is by far among the best in the locality, serving a variety of professionally prepared local and international delicacies, including a good mix of vegetarian, meat and seafood dishes. The wine list is excellent too with a fine choice of some nice regular and high end wines.

The hotel maintains its own beach to which you can take a lift. Another lift takes you to the central part of the city if you don’t fancy walking up and down the hill. There’re plenty of other decent restaurants and shops around.

In my view the Grand Castelli is a brilliant place in all respects and it attracts many regular guests. Would highly recommend it as one of the best holiday spots in north Italy.

Very nice rooms, clean, comfortable, hotel staff very friendly. The hotel sits on a hill with beautiful views of the water below. Warning: Italian breakfasts VERY different from American! Very basic - pastries, juice, coffee.

The hotel is situated on a little hill overlooking the harbor, old town Sestri and it's two bays. The hotel rooms are in the old castle as well as in a new building. We had a room in the new building. It had all the amenities associated with a four star hotel (air conditioning, a big bathroom with bathtub etc.) and was quiet. For people 6 ft and taller: the bed has an end.
Breakfast buffet is offered in the hotel restaurant overlooking the bay. The buffet does not leave many wishes unfulfilled. The restaurant is excellent, but the size of the dishes was enormous, we could not finish a four course tasting menu and had to skip dessert.
The private (though artificial) beach was lovely (few people, great views). You get charged extra for the towels and the deck chairs though. The hotel being on a hill offers access to the city and the beach via convenient elevators and is a welcome refuge for a traveller seeking a quiet and relaxing vacation while at the same time being an excellent starting point for excursions to cinque terre and Liguria.

We had a great stay at this hotel, even though most of our time here was spent in Cinque Terre, it is easy to get to, and the staff was very accommodating, and even kept the restaurant open when we arrived later than we expected.

LOVED it. Loved Sestri Levante, loved the staff, the grounds, the location...

The Private Beach was 'meh' since it was a created beach and one can stroll down the hill and stick feet in sand in the most amazing environment for free, but it is great that it is there and would still recommend it for anyone looking for privacy.

The views are stunning, food is great, and? CASTLE! We got the 'old castle' part and, after checking out the "see view" (quote from their response) once on site, were so glad we opted for no "see view" since it the view of the countryside grounds was still amazing, and had the wonderful smell and sound of nature.
