A few things to ameliorate (shower cabins are way too small, clumsy elevators), and the place would be perfect.
We spent 3 nights and 4 days without ever getting bored by the stunning view from the room, the restaurant, the bar, the swimming pool.
We will highly recommend it to friends and family.

We had a wonderful 4 nights at Vis a Vis. Spectacular views of the coast, town harbor, and sunsets every night from the hotel bar. Room was comfortable. Staff and service were great. Conveniently located to town, restaurants, and train station. We would definitely return.

My husband and I stayed here this past summer and we had a wonderful time. The hotel was beautiful and perfectly maintained. The view from the roof is spectacular!! The staff is what made the visit so special, though. They were always ready with an idea of where to eat, how to get somewhere, and ideas of things to do. The internet in the rooms was helpful to keep in contact with home. The included breakfast was delicious each and every morning. We couldn't have asked for a better place to stay in Sestri Levante. We recommend it highly!

Room Tip: We had a room without a view, and it was still spectacular!

We spent a week at the Vis a Vis while on a tour. We loved the hotel! Others have mentioned the small room and bathroom but we found both perfectly fine for a European hotel. There was enough room to move comfortably around the bed on all sides. There was a sizable closet with plenty of hangers on either side of the bed. The bathroom wasn't large but was functional, with plenty of counter space and a shelf underneath for storing your things. There is a small refrigerator in the room. Behind the bed is a shelf with electrical outlets on both sides, a handy feature for recharging phones. A nice, fluffy bathrobe as well as slippers is provided for each guest. The balcony is a wonderful addition to the room, with breathtaking views of the gorgeous area. Ours faced the sea but others with the mountain view loved their view also. There is a retractable awning over the balcony that allowed us to sit there comfortably even during a light rain. The sliding glass doors to the balcony have a cover that can be operated by a remote control by the bed, a nice convenience. If we return to Sestri Levante we will definitely plan to come back to this wonderful hotel!

This was our second time at this hotel and it was the highlight of our trip. You can't get a better view of the sea from any hotel. Sestri Levante is an undiscovered gem and this hotel, the palace. our room was a bit small but the patio was like a second room. We spent little time in the room anyway, opting to spend time at the pool, decks, restaurant and bar area. The view from the bar and restaurants is stunning. Built on the hilltop, you get panoramic 360 degree views. Everyone spoke English and the service was impeccable. I loved the bar and wait staff, very attentive and old school style service.
The pool was lovely, with an attendant to see to your every need. We used the gym which was small but had equipment I'd never seen before, cute though. The hotel supplied bikes which we took into town daily. We tried to get dinner out but realized that no other restaurant was going to have the view that the hotel's restaurant offered. Besides, the food was excellent. I cook professionally and was surprised that the restaurant didn't have a Michelin star. The wine list offered lovely selections at great prices. The breakfast buffet was one of the best on our trip.
Initially we were supposed to stay one night to celebrate our 25th anniversary but ended up staying 4 nights (thank God they had the availability, usually full). The town is lovely but small and there are hardly any English speaking tourists (a real plus after the throngs of them in Florence).

Room Tip: Get one that has a balcony.

I returned to this wonderful hotel in August 2013 and stayed 4 days.
The rooms are somewhat small but quite clean and comfortable. Internet is free and at speed of DSL. The staff are helpful, polite, caring and almost like your family. The restaurant has one of the best food selections I have had. The view is breathtaking. There is great view in outdoor and also indoor restaurant . The bar at top floor is an absolute delight , there I had the best view of sunset. In the entire time I felt I was in a hotel owned by a family member, eating home made food and being well taken care of.
The town is quite charming with nice restaurants are nice, one of them Portobello is exceptional and right on the water in a beautiful bay.
You can take a boat or train ride to other interesting places such as Cinque terre.
I will return to this place again and again.

S.D.

What an exceptional place! I just spent 5 nights with my husband and nine year old daughter at this tip top little Shangri La. Our stay started on August 21st 2013.The view of Sestri is a 360 degree panoramic one with the two beaches, harbour and bays at the front, and the gorgeous Ligurian hills behind. We had a small 'family room' to sleep three, with our daughter in her own little enclosed adjoining area, so she felt like she had her own space. Normally she has a sofa bed in the corner, but not here. She had her own little single with separate TV etc.The room was lovely, though smallish it was beautifully appointed and very well designed for storage, with a great little balcony. Though we were not facing the sea, we had a stupendous view of the hills and countryside from our second floor room..Some other reviewer commented on the small bathroom. Small yes, but perfectly formed with top quality finish and appliances. Everything you need. Who wants to spend time in a bathroom with views like this anyway?
The staff are exceptional. From reception through to the pool guys,[ who were even happy to adjust the umbrellas for shade.] All very relaxing. No silly rush for sun chairs. The interior of the hotel is understated elegance , quite contemporary .
The dining room has views over the two bays, and the sunset from here cannot be bettered. The pool is gorgeous with views to die for.
The diving board and pool, free use of pool inflatables, table tennis table and free easy internet access, kept our nine year old occupied. For younger children there is a sweet separate little area with outdoor toys under a canopy to provide shade. We did not use the spa, but there was also a separate steam room and gym equipment too.
For walkers there is a path which runs up the hill beside the hotel. I enjoyed a glorious early morning stroll on this coastal footpath with olive groves immediately on my left and the coast on my right; really unspoiled and beautiful.
Yes, it is an expensive hotel, but it is definitely worth it.Thank you to all the staff.
