Planned as a winter break, everything was fine - except the weather. Millcroft is set in a beautiful rural location, easy to reach over excellent roads. Our visit unfortunately took place following an ice and snow storm - and during a sudden one-day thaw which made everything wet, icy and bleak.
Fortunately the warm cosy surroundings, fine dining and excellent spa facilities (with pool) compensated for not being able to enjoy outside activities. The staff were most accommodating and helpful.

Room Tip: Rooms vary a great deal - as there are more than one "location" at Millcroft, ranging from...

I stayed at Milcroft as a getaway for me, myself and I! It was perfect and met my needs in terms of setting, style and ambiance. I went on a couples package so I received the wine, chocolate covered strawberries and breakfast.

I stayed in one of the crofts and thoroughly enjoyed the layout and warmth of the room. The mini waterfall is great to view while having breakfast in the restaurant. All in all I had a great time and enjoyed walking the trails. Money well spent!

My wife and I enjoyed our night at Millcroft Inn immensely. Only a 30 mintue drive for us, it still has the feel of a getaway. Beautiful trails and rustic places to see. We had a croft style room, kind of like a mini chalet with a wood burning fire place and bed up in a loft. The only negative thing during our stay was since we have a 7 week old baby we went to the restaurant for dinner early not wanting to bother people if he was fussy, but they don't start serving dinner til 6:00pm so we had to order off the lounge menu and sit in the lounge. That being said the charcuterie‎ board and cheese platter and hamburger were delicious. Breakfast was perfect eating by the waterfall view windows and my wife said the pancakes were the best she's ever had. The service for both meals was excellent

Our family of 21 people including a two-year old and two expectant mothers had a great time at the Millcroft on November 29-30 weekend. Tami and Elann were very efficient and friendly in making our very complicated advance arrangements for accommodation (Tami) and food (Elann). As it turned out, the accommodations in the main Inn building and the top floor of the Manor House were as comfortable and "Country-Inn-Like" as we remember from a couple of stays some years ago. We loved it. If you are looking for a country inn experience with old Ontario feel, you will not be disappointed. Just be aware that the Crofts are very nice townhouse style units, but they are newer - maybe built in the 1970s and have more of a ski lodge feeling. Food was very good.and met our expectations for a high quality hotel. A couple of gourmets in our party had no complaints, but were not "blown away" with flavour combinations or innovation.
My wife had an excellent massage at the spa. The pool is quite small but the pool area is pleasant and airy.
Location is in the country near Alton, on 100 acres of land with impressive dam/waterfall.
Over all, the Inn exceeded our expectations in terms of the staff service and accommodation. The front desk and housekeeping staff were particularly helpful and friendly.

Room Tip: Be aware that the Crofts are newer and do not have the "Old Ontario Country Inn" feeling...

For our 35th wedding anniversary we booked for an overnight stay on Dec 13/2013, including dinner that evening and breakfast for the next day. The ambiance, the x-mas decor and the friendly staff left little to complain about. However our overall experience of this place fell short of our expectations, certainly not justified what we ended up paying at the end. When we first booked, my wife had mentioned we were celebrating our wedding anniversary and I thought it would have been nice for them to acknowledge it in a small way, oh well. Our room was equipped with a small computer size TV mounted opposite on the far side of the room where our bed was placed. Our bed was queen sized. The night table clock was brightly lit and we had to cover it up with towels for a better night's sleep. We have eaten out at a lot of fine restaurants and felt that the dinner was good but nothing special for the price. In fact our lobster bisque came in unheated soup bowls. My wife had only one alcoholic drink and I had one beer. Total charges including tax amounted to $467.25 plus a $25.00 tip - Ouch!! (I tipped because it wasn't the waiter's fault we had an unhappy experience).

We stayed for one night and had a wonderful time. Our room was in the main inn and we had a view of the waterfall, which was a lovely treat. It was snowing and beautiful and it felt a bit like being in a snow globe in our room.

The room was spacious, comfortable and very clean. We were there to celebrate and enjoyed a delicious meal in the restaurant, where they sat us in the 'pod' overlooking the waterfall. We didn't use the spa or pool, but we did spend some time in the cozy games room which has a pool table and many other activities. Breakfast the next morning was fantastic - they have a great buffet and the 'to order' pancakes were some of the best I've ever eaten.

The staff at the inn were so attentive and helpful during our stay. They helped make our special day that much better - especially one of the wait staff who went above and beyond to make sure we got the perfect photo to remember our stay.

While this is an expensive treat, we thought it was well worth the splurge and will definitely return. We also tried Ray's Bistro, which is in the same town, and were very impressed with the food and service there. A great option if you find the restaurant at Millcroft too pricey.

Room Tip: There are a lot of weddings here, so ask for a room far from those activities.

Nice renovated mill with wonderful water views (but why would anyone stay in the newer buildings?). Weird management, where apparently the nice staff are trained to be intrusive. Our waiter had dinner aggressively insisted we give him our names, made a point of telling us what was in our food items, though that had been on the menu, and acted like it was our job to approve of him and the one of the nearby quality restaurants. As for the food, it would be ok if it wasn't almost exclusively for carnivores and overpriced, and you'd be better off at the great restaurants nearby. Don't fall for the high pressure price fixe deals. We were surprised to find a rose on our bed when we returned---nice rose, but intrusive---and the next night I had to shoo a woman with a rose out my room in my bathrobe. She tried the door--we assumed a guest had mistaken their room---and then proceeded to let herself in by key. Lock up your valuables! Nice room, but weird noises through the night---apparently a broken bathroom fan in the next room that sounded like a buzzsaw. The final indignity was the 'resort fee' that we discovered on the bill on our way out. Every guest pays it----whether or not you go to the pool or spa, as we did not. So you get taxed for the special services other guests use but you don't. wow. To be fair, most staff were great, it just seems like a weird totalitarian business on-edge management system (Vintage) was out to make a peaceful setting as stressful as possible
