We recently returned from a two week trip to Italy and spent our last four nights at Villa Il Paradisino. Having visited and stayed in central Florence, we wanted a new experience but still be close enough to go into Florence.
The Villa was absolutely perfect and we are so thrilled to have stayed there! Set in the middle of Sesto Fiorentino, this is a 15th century walled villa that has been under the care and management of the same family since 1839.
Walking through the tall iron gates was stepping back in time - a 13 acre working farm, beautiful gardens, stunning villa where the family still lives and the "Nobleman House" where careful restoration of four fabulous apartments (that can be configured to accommodate many arrangements) are rented to fortunate travelers. Beautifully furnished with antiques, some with large engraved stone fireplaces and include all amenities. We opted for a one bedroom without kitchen. It was huge along with an enormous bath - not to mention an extremely comfortable king bed and fantastic rain forest shower. Heaven after a great day of sightseeing,
Costanza and her sister Serena are such caring hostesses! Costanza (who is expecting!) is so accommodating and we immediately felt like we had known her all our lives. She and Serena also give cooking lessons at the villa - we reserved an evening for one of their special dinners in the main home - amazing is putting it mildly. To visit and tour the villa, hear the many stories of their generations of family was incredibly interesting. And, the meal - a traditional Tuscan meal of family dishes - from "soup to nuts" was delicious and exquisite. Serena is completing her studies to become a naturopath and they will soon be able to offer massages, holistic programs, vegetarian cooking classes and more. Costanza also made reservations for us at two of the best restaurants we ate in on our entire trip. Oh, they also produce their own wines and olive oil. Outstanding!!! We wished we could have brought some home but only vacationed with carry-on luggage so we made sure we got our fill while at the villa!
Villa Il Paradisino is an absolutely perfect location to use as a home base for touring. We didn't have a car, but the train station was just an easy 15 minute walk. Florence center is just 15 minutes by train, Lucca an hour. We wanted to visit Bologna, but didn't have time. A family of 5 from Scotland was staying in the 3 BR apt and let me have a peek. Wow! What a home away from home (perfect for family or couples) complete with a huge kitchen and an enormous patio for outdoor dining. They had a car which was parked inside the villa gates and made the easy drive to Lucca and other areas.
We can't say enough about this very special family and this fairy tale villa - cannot wait to return!
Mille Grazie, Costanza and Serena, for taking such good care of us to create the perfect experience ever!
