Mountain Ridge Bandipur

Bandipur is a magical place and Mountain Ridge is one of its gems.
It was the best place I visited on my trip to Nepal. No pollution, no traffic, just beautiful and peaceful little sleepy town where the time stood nearly still......with historic, well looked after main square, and fantastic views of the Himalayas as well as incredibly green rice paddies.
Mountain ridge is definitely a home stay, not a hotel, and one feels like a member of the family from the moment of arrival. The rooms are large and comfortable with balconies to sit and watch the world go by. So relaxing! I had to force myself to leave it and go to explore all the other delights; walks to hidden waterfalls, caves, and exploring the life in this amazing place. Home cooked food was delicious, as was the laughter of the children around.
Piers is one of the rare people who will go to incredible length to inform and help in every way. His knowledge of the area, its history and its people is quite exceptional.
A happy place and happy time. Thank you Piers and family. Will be back...........

We had the opportunity to stay in Piers wonderful guesthouse for three nights in Bandipur.
Everything was just perfect :
The room was spotless clean and spacious with your own balcony overlooking the rice paddies and the Himalayas. But the rooms are not just standard hotel rooms, each one is tastefully decorated.
The food is home cooked, delicious and filling.
The location is a short walk through a very nice rural neighborhood to the main bazaar.
But the best of it all is the wonderful and welcoming owner Piers who made us really feel at home and gave us the opportunity to meet the friendly people in the neighborhood. He is a source of information providing us with useful tips for our stay including hiking maps etc. and in the evening Piers invited us to watch a movie. He turned the dining room into a little cinema showing movies with a beamer.
Thank you Piers for the wonderful time. It really was one of the most enjoyable stays we ever had.

Thanks Eva and Dirk

You were both so easy-going, and apparently such experienced travellers that you take everything in your stride. It was an immense pleasure meeting you and befriending you. I hope we meet again and again.

Just got back from Bandipur after staying at Mountain Ridge Hotel for two nights. Loved the friendly atmosphere there! Large and comfortable rooms. Every room has its own theme and meaning which i find quite interesting and creative (Owner, take a bow!) and the breakfast...YUM! Not to mention the balcony; view from the balcony is just "Heavenly".
i would love to visit there again, this time with my family & friends :)

Room Tip: Every room has its own theme and meaning but i liked Tibetan one most

Thank you for your kindness in writing a review. It's really encouraging to see that our aim of creating a homestay that provides guests with best we can, is appreciated. We're still in the process of construction and our kindly guests have not drawn attention to this, but I think I should. Even so, the heaps of sand and stacks of slate are quickly being absorbed into the project and Mountain Ridge Bandipur is taking shape. AND, as I write, the view from the balconies of the towering snowy peaks of Annapurna Range is crystal-clear and breath-taking!

After staying at Mountain Ridge Udaipur, India 3 years ago with my family I was very keen to see the new Mountain Ridge in Bandipur on a recent trekking trip with friends to Nepal.
Bandipur was our first stop and it didn't disappoint! I had promised my friends they would be happy and to my relief they were all really glad they had made that part of the trip with me.
A car was organised through Mountain Ridge to pick us up from Kathmandu airport. The driver was waiting for us when we arrived and got us safely to Bandipur.
We received a great welcome from the family who own and run Mountain Ridge and felt at home immediately!
What a great place to unwind and chill! You can do as little or as much as you like.
Mountain Ridge has been built on the ridge of a mountain so on clear days the views are beautiful. It has been built in the Newari style with GREAT attention to detail. The timber window frames are really very beautiful - a work of art in themselves!
Our rooms were large and comfortable. There is a large bathroom, dressing area, and sitting area. When we were there everything was so new that the furnishings were not quite complete in all rooms, but once there are a couple of comfy chairs in place the rooms will be a perfect retreat. They are all decorated individually and are rustic with lovely stone floors covered in beautiful hand made rugs. The balconies are a lovely place to sit and enjoy the view and watch local life. One of our group was unwell when we arrived so the family set her up with mattress and pillows on the balcony so she could enjoy the view in comfort!
We had quite a few meals cooked by Indira - lovely, wholesome, traditional Nepali food and her spiced tea is excellent!
We really enjoyed Bandipur village which is a 5-10 minute walk from Mountain Ridge. Very peaceful and built in the Newari style. We went on a couple of great walks but mostly we just chilled - saving our strength for a 10 day trek.
The local community have already really benefited from the building of the homestay. They now have a water tank (when full long trips to the well will be a thing of the past) and a paved stone road where there was mud. It is great to see people so passionate about helping the local people - looking forward to seeing what happens there in the future!
My family had loved Mountain Ridge in Udaipur and Mountain Ridge Bandipur did not disappoint. I will definitely be back with my family!

Carmel, thanks for your epic review. It was a pleasure to have you and your 'gang' with us and I'm so pleased that you enjoyed your stay as well as the rest of your travels through Nepal. Regarding the furniture, we are getting there. As you know we are essentially a charity and amongst other things we are committed to setting up training workshops for marginalised people. We have set up a carpentry enterprise and we purchased a load of damaged furniture from on of Kathmandu's 5-star hotels. Out of this our carpentry team is trying to resurrect chairs (there are some beautiful ones) and create other items such as coffee tables. Since you were with us, several restored pieces are now gracing the rooms. Getting Mountain Ridge to the ultimate standard is a continuous and exciting process. Please return in the not to distant future.

Living as we do in a busy, noisy city, it was a pleasure to take a few days' break in the

sleepy little town of Bandipur. We found out about Mountain Ridge from a friend and booked

the Tibetan Room. The structure of Mountain Ridge is built in the Newari style with

beautiful old timber and carved windows, but the inside is tastefully modern with rustic

touches. Our room was very spacious with a large balcony (we had a fabulous panoramic view

of the Himalayas at sunset one evening, and one morning but they were hidden on the other

days due to cloud. Even so, the view was always good.

The Tibetan Room was beautifully furnished with Buddhist / Tibetan designs - lamp,

bedspread, decor - the theme was thoughtfully interpreted. The dressing area and bathroom

were also well laid out, and the mattress perfect for good night's sleep. Breakfast was

included in the price - we were so glad to get real coffee.

Mountain Ridge is only a 5 minute stroll from the main bazaar, so we had a couple of dinners

at other places during our stay. There are great oportunities for hiking around there - we

went to Siddha Cave and a tribal village (can't remember the name). Truly lovely area, and

above all, a wonderful homestay with kind, friendly people.

Room Tip: We loved the Tibetan theme, but each room has its own theme. Next time we may try another - maybe t...
