“Peaceful ... except for the dogs”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 10, 2014

After a little issue finding how to reach the hotel (you actually need to park 200 metres away and some Nepalese women will carry your bags ... bit weird) we thoroughly enjoyed it. Bandipur is off the track with not a lot to do but it does break the journey between Pokahra and Chitwan. The building is typically Newari and is being extended. You can't help but think it is trying to compete with the Old Inn next door. Rooms were very comfortable and beautifully decorated. If you're wanting to relax watching TV ... forget it, there is none. If you want to jump on wifi .... forget it, it's not available either. Not that this was a problem - it was great to just sit back under the candle light and read a book .... that was until the dogs started. I was never so grateful to hear rain because it meant the dogs were undercover somewhere and fighting with each other all night. I know this is nothing to do with the hotel but I would say, don't expect a great night's sleep. After the dogs have been flighting all night the sound of roosters will wake you a day break. The service was fantastic and most impressive however was the food. Fresh pomegranate for breakfast, delicious rice for dinner. The beautiful rooms (although low ceilings so watch your head) and the food were a stand-out but bring out your ear plugs when you want to have a decent night's sleep.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back with the view. Amazing on a clear day!!!!

The hotel has been beautifully restored and maintained as others have mentioned. The style is authentic Newari and the food is very good. The whole area of Bandipur is almost theme parkish but not thank goodness - everywhere you walk you are immersed in the Newari culture which is wonderful to see and actually experience. Bandipur is a bit out of the way but worth the trip for a more authentic experience without being kitsch. People are also very hospitable - a place to show respect and receive respect.

This is a gem of a place for those wishing to experience something a bit more authentic but not wanting to rough it too much. The building itself is really old but beautifully maintained. The staff are kind and helpful. Rather embarrassingly the 'bellboys' are small women who are amazingly strong and carry your cases from the edge of the village (no cars allowed) all the way to the 3rd floor if you're at the top. And they do this with the cases on their backs! The rooms are basic but spotless. The bathroom is quaint with a copper sink and a good shower. Soap provided. There are frequent power outages so be prepared to shower by torchlight (torch provided). Food was great. The evening meal was many courses and all great. Breakfast and lunch plentiful. Eat out on the patio at the back as the view is stunning. Do mind your head as the doorways are all low and you're bound to hit them if you are taller than about 5 foot 5! Also do get up to watch the sunrise as its worth the short walk to the vantage point outside the village. The village itself is immaculately kept and has a number of places to eat drink and shop. The hotel also has a cute leaving ceremony.

BANDIPUR IS ITSELF NICE HERITAGE VILLAGE . AND EFFOR OF LOCALS OF KEEPING IT away from vehicles is making it completely pollution free . further even new construction using old concepts is helping it to keep alive things eco freindly . because they are using all natural resources . further local people are dedicated in maintaining cleanliness .
in addition this hotel gaun ghar has everything i mentioned above . and the owner mr. digumber piya is excellent host . he is like family member . you can order food even out of menu . eco - friendly hotel . old building renovated to suit modern living with same old days feel.
must go for 2-3 nights.

Room Tip: book back side room for good view and ample space

The views from the this hotel are beautiful. This was the definitely the reason to stay here and probably why the price was so high. We had a twin room with a stunning view over the back of the hotel and the valley. The beds were very comfortable and the rooms were very clean.
The terrace outside gave a great view of the sunset, and was a nice place to eat dinner. The dinner, however was underwhelming, as was breakfast.

Room Tip: Definitely the top floor overlooking the valley - a great room.

This review is potentially colored by the fact that, when we arrived, there wasn't any water. In fact, there hadn't been water in a week (though the hotel insisted it had only been two days). The hotel manager told us water would be available in 'a few hours'. Then, the power went out. The hotel does not have a backup generator, which seems to be standard issue for Nepali hotels. So, here we are in an old inn with no running water or electricity, and the staff begins lighting candles and oil lamps throughout the building to provide light. Sounds to me like a death trap. Needless to say, we checked out.

The hotel has a certain charm, kind of a Nepali hacienda. However, the mattresses in the room appeared to be stuffed with straw, and weren't the cleanest. One couple in our tour group had a room no bigger than a closet. Still, this may have been a survivable night if there was water and the hotel had not lied to us. I hope they respond to this post.

Room Tip: Pick a hotel with a backup generator. You'll be glad you did.
