Hotel Pralong
Certificate of Excellence

If you are thinking of travelling to Selva in the winter or summer you would have to give the Pralong a very serious consideration. Family run, fantastic staff and friendly. Everyone smiles, everyone wants to assist you in having a memorable stay in the region. Nothing is too much trouble.
Being a small hotel, clients are treated like honoured guests on first name terms. The hotel is slightly elevated from the road overlooking a small river, the ski lift and the pine covered sides of the mountains. A chair lift is a 3 mins walk away. The main gondola lift 8-10 mins. The town of Selva spreads along a road for aprox. half a mile. As such there is no real centre (bakery within 5 mins walk. Ski shops, Lift Pass office and cash point all within 4 min). There is a nearby skibus that links all the Selva Valley resorts (7€ pp per week). You cannot ski to the door, but you can to a really great Stube bar just 3 mins down the road. Or simply take of your skis and walk from the chairlift to the hotel (little effort).
The hotel is very much in the Tirolean style of the Alps (ink Austria with a slight Italian twist). Immaculate in every detail. Lots of polished wood and ornaments give it a real homely feel. Meals in the restaurant are nothing short of superb (4 courses and all generous). A large buffet breakfast. Allocated tables per room or party. Service, quality and choice more in keeping with a top independent restaurant. Comfortable bar with all manor of drinks.......and best of all we are talking cheap by Alpine standards. Prosecco at 3€, coffee at 2€, beer from 3€ and a bottle of wine form 20€.
As you might expect all public areas and rooms overlook the mountains. Not other buildings.
Officially classified as a 3*+ hotel. It is much better tha that. No pretensions, no hip, nothing flash.
All rooms are mid size, austrian twin bedding (2x singles joined), carpetted, ample storage, balcony, hairdryer, TV, safe, bath or shower. The hotel has wi-fi, sauna, jet spa bath and a ski/boot room.
The only time the hotel has road noise is during the day, albeit still light when to be fair everyone is out walking, ski-ing or shopping.
We have skied in virtually every resort in Europe and the States over the last 30 years, not only does Selva and the scenery make it into the top three (not for die-hard off pisters and black run afficiado's, but those that enjoy magnificent scenery).
The Hotel owner is a past Italian Olympic ski champion, look for the trophies everywhere. The Hotel is effectively managed by the son Christian (who when he is not suggesting regional wines, greeting you at check-in could be saving someone from the mountains as one of the very talented helicopter rescue team) and every thing is overseen by mother (the matriach!) to ensure the hotel is immaculate.
We had a fantastic stay, made even more memorable when the staff went the extra mile to look after me when I had a mishap on the mouantain and learnt all about helicopters and hospitals.
Put me off?
Not at all. We like every other guest we spoke to will be back for both more of the Dolomites and the Hotel Pralong.

We stayed for a week with friends never having skied the Dolomites before. The Pralong was an excellent choice. Our rooms were clean and well furnished with plenty of hanging space for skiing kit and there was plenty of hot water for a soak in the bath after a days skiing. The family that run the hotel were most helpful especially as I left a set of skis at Innsbruck Airport by mistake, they contacted one of the ski reps who lived opposite and he brought them to the hotel later that day.

Christian (owners son) was very informative about where to ski and how to get there as we were not with a tour operator.

Nearly everyone has commented on the meal arrangements at the hotel, both breakfast and dinner (all five courses) were excellent with a good choice. Christian was also very helpful with the choice of wines for dinner.

The Pralong is situated opposite a lift so you can get skiing straight away or ski down to the main town lift or bus stop by the glass bridge, the ski bus stops right outside the hotel on the way home so no up hill trek with your skis. Getting around the valley is really easy with the ski bus once you have sorted out the map and time table (the family at the hotel were very helpful here) and the bus ticket for 7Euro is good value.

We all enjoyed the hotel and the are and would return.

Room Tip: We had a room at the front with a balcony and were not disturbed by noise even thought we slept with...

Spotless, superb and generous meals and a great location for all but complete ski beginners. A two person chair lift is only 3minutes away and you can walk to the town centre in five. We had a fantastic stay in this intimate hotel that warrants a four star rating. The family owners and all staff were most helpful and professional. Attention to detail was excellent. The wellness suite was good value and relaxing.

We loved the skiing, the scenery is stunning and the mountain restaurant ambience and value unsurpassed. This is an area that warrants repeat visits as does Hotel Pralong.

Room Tip: We had the corner rear family suite which is ideal for parents and two children.

Just returned from a week's skiing in Selva - choose the Pralong having read the recent reviews on Tripadvisor. Our first time in the Dolomites and we could not have picked a better hotel for our visit. Most of what follows has been said before, the food is excellent (5 courses every day in the evening and a great choice for breakfast), all the staff went out of their way to be helpful, comfortable bedrooms and a great location for access to the slopes. The hotel deserves more than a 3 star rating and if (hopefully) we return to the Dolomites I will certainly book the Pralong again.
The scenery in the area is stunning and quite different to the alps and the ski area is huge - we bomb about the slopes every day but there are still areas that we have not skied. Lift queues when tackling the Sellaronda can be a bit of an issue but it's worth the wait - I would recommend going via the clockwise route i.e. orange as there is less poleing than on the green route.
Special thanks to Christian for his expert knowledge and helpfulness with all our skiing queries. .

This was our fourth stay and once again we received a very warm welcome from everyone at the hotel. A very friendly homely feel and nothing is ever too much for any of the staff in this family run hotel, even the ladies in the laundry room smiled and said hello every morning when we saw them on the way to the boot locker room. The food was exceptional and traditionally Italian with plenty of choices and alternatives, you definitely needed to work up an appetite as the food was plentiful. Ski location is great with access to the mountain practically on the doorstep. Since our last stay a substantial investment has been made in the refurbishment to the bedrooms and bathrooms which has made it all the more comfortable. Another fantastic stay at the Pralong, hoping to return next year.

Can only really echo what others have already said - a very pleasant stay at this lovely family-run hotel, the real highlight being the wonderful food which was consistently way above what might be expected from a 3-star hotel. On a couple of evenings we made use of the wellness suite in the basement (which although 5 Euro per person we thought was worth it) which has sauna, steam room, whirlpool bath and heated relaxation bench whilst on other evenings we just relaxed in the comfy chairs in the lounge area.

The location is just out of the centre of the village, which if you are already a competent skier is no problem as the Ciampinoi chairlift is directly opposite the hotel, and it is about 350m walk to the Costabella chairlift in the other direction to access the Dantercepies mountain. However in order to reach the ski school meeting points on skis, you need to be able to ski down the short red run from the top of the Costabella chair, which would not be suitable for beginners. To reach the meeting point by foot walking through the village would be a fair distance in ski boots and the bus routes didn't seem to be that comprehensive, so a more central hotel might be best for first-time skiers.

The village of Selva itself is a pretty place and the skiing on the Dolomiti Superski area is fantastic in its variety, extent and quality of the pistes. The mountains in this area of the Dolomites are very picturesque and there are many options for different days of skiing, including the 26km Sella Ronda circuit which you can join opposite the hotel and easily complete in a day. Another guest summed up the Sud Tirol area as the perfect combination of Austrian efficiency and Italian food which I would agree with - we are already planning a 2014 return trip!

Just returned from a week at the Pralong, a Beautiful family hotel with a very homely feel and exquisite attention to detail. The rooms provide every comfort, very clean, warm and comfortable. The food was excellent and very well presented. Appreciated the professional manner of Thomas in the dining room. Thanks to Felix, Gabry and Cristian for allowing us to taste and enjoy such a beautiful hotel, and for sharing your knowledge which framed every day of our stay and enabled us to get the most out of our holiday. As a fellow guest said 'should we review and share this little gem or keep it to ourselves'. Thank you all and hope we get the opportunity to visit you again.
