We stayed in Selva Di Val Gardena for four days/nights and twice ate dinner at Freina. The food was good and and the menu very much in keeping with dishes of the regiona that are served in virtually every other restaurant that was recommended by our host. Freina's dining area is very comfortable, the wine selection quite good (especially the Teroldoga...try it) and the food tasty if not spectacular. I may be short-selling the food because - as I said earlier and based on just a few meals - the cuisine in the area seems limited in both ingredients and mode of preparation. On the other hand, Martin...the best and most personable waiter we experienced during 17 days in Italy and in the top five no matter the timeframe...is a 6 star server whose knowledge of wine and food as well as his big personality make a good meal a great one.... He is irrepressible and funny and very bright with a big sense of humor. Hopefully he is on duty if and when you go... somewhat basicat the cutting edge of cuisine if not at which we ate or patronized or thought of patronizing.
