Hotel Mediterraneo Sorrento
Ranked #2 of 19 Hotels in Sant'Agnello
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed July 8, 2014 via mobile

The first thing about the Mediterraneo is the location: just far enough from Sorrento to be quiet at night while being close enough to get there easily. The shuttle bus helps too, as the local taxis are not particularly cheap.

The staff were all very friendly and went out of their way to help with anything they could: from our experience Pina and Aniello at reception deserve particular mention, as well as Arturo at the pool bar.

It was difficult to find any fault overall: the decor everywhere was very stylish, the pool area was very nice and has a dining area for lunch and drinks, as well as dinner on some nights.

If you want to get closer to the sea, you can pay EUR 10 for a day pass on the sun loungers at La Marinella at the foot of the cliffs, with a lift directly down from the hotel. If you just want a swim, skip the pass, head down and just turn left onto the public spiaggia.

Going back to food, the main restaurant, which has unbelievable views, does great breakfasts and at night is well worth visiting for dinner at least once. No matter what time of day, try to get a table on the terrazzo.

If possible, also go for a sea view room. Talking of which our only quibble was that the room, although very comfortable in every way, wasn't the biggest and typically for a building with high ceilings and stone floors, didn't have the best sound insulation. The bathroom was slightly tired-looking too.

Having said all that, in general we had a lovely stay and wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Mediterraneo to anyone else.

We stayed in the hotel after 4 days in Tuscany. It was a fun change of pace to go from the hills of wine country to the seaside retreat in Sorrento. Couple of notes about the hotel:
Room: on the small side but comfortable bed, decent shower, and great balcony. It was small but worth it to grab a bottle of wine and sit outside and watch the sunset every night. There are some people who complained about the noise on the reviews but we felt like by closing the doors to the balcony, it really pushed out any road noise. No problems sleeping and there were weddings every night across the street.
Food: breakfast was good - a nice variety (eggs, toast, bacon, sausage, yogurt, fruit, cheeses and pastries). Coffee, fresh squeezed OJ, etc. Only serve until 10am which we found out the hard way on day 1. We didn't get a chance to have dinner in the restaurant because they were closed the day we had a reservation. They have BBQ dinners in the summer out by the pool. They were nice but for $35 euro per person, I felt it was expensive for what we got. Drinks were extra.
Pool: pool is awesome. Perfect for relaxing after a day of traveling around the Amalfi Coast. Bar service available, lunch is served out there as well but for a limited time.
Beach Access: great access down to the beach by a private elevator on the lower level. For $12 euro (I think?) you can get a chair at the private beach area. There are swimming areas off the docks and a small walk in beach for kids.
Neighborhood: I was worried about being so far from the city but this was rarely a problem. There was a great spot across the street for a snack/cocktail (right on the edge of the cliff) and a fabulous hotel restaurant at Hotel Corallo with another great outdoor patio right on the cliff. We walked into the city once and it was a nice walk. I wouldn't want to do it at night but was fine during the day. We took a cab from the pier and it was expensive so I'd use the hotel shuttle or walk it when you need to.
Wifi: free wifi was great, but it kept kicking you off so you'd need to log in over and over again. Probably helped keep me from working too hard.
Parking: free parking, we could walk to it and park ourselves, outside in a covered area.
STaff: hotel staff was all friendly and helpful, easy to communicate in English.

I'd highly recommend this hotel and would stay again if we come back to this area.

Room Tip: Splurge for the balcony, seaside rooms. Well worth it. We spent a ton of time on our balcony!

We stayed here for three nights to start our recent Italy trip. We used this as a base for visiting the Amalfi Coast and Pompei. It is about 45 minutes outside of Naples. Your drive down the Amalfi coast will depend on traffic.

We arrived in the afternoon and found our room to be overlooking the water. The room was a bit small but no concern for the small amount of time we spent in it. The best part was that the window opened wide and we could let in some sea air whenever we were in the room. The room had plenty of towels, toiletries and a small bathroom with a shower. there was a hair dryer in the bathroom. The bedding was very comfortable and the bed was large. Plenty of pillows and blankets if needed. they did not replace towels in the evening, so hang them up if you take two showers a day.

Check in was no problem. We found that the hotel isn't right in the city center but is a short walk away. there are plenty of restaurants nearby, including two that are across the road from the hotel and overlooking the water. Both of those were good.

food: Breakfast is served on the top floor and you can sit outside or inside. Careful of the seagulls if you're sitting outside. They're pretty brave but you can shoo them away. the breakfast buffet was large, typically with some type of eggs, ham/bacon, toast and assorted pastries and meats. You serve yourself and can go back as many times as you like. I never had anything bad. There's also a juice bar where you can make a mimosa if you like. The orange juice is fresh squeezed every morning and was delicious. We did not eat any other meals here as we preferred to sample local restaurants.

Courtyard: The courtyard behind the hotel and surrounding the pool is huge and so peaceful. We sat back there for happy hour and after dinner. They serve a nice assortment of appetizers for happy hour and always have peanuts and potato chips ( as seems to be custom in Italy) at the bar. The drinks were good pours and the prices reasonable. They had light entertainment by the pool, so it was not too loud to talk or just relax. I'm not sure how full the hotel was but it's small, so the courtyard was never very full.

Indoors: The restaurant upstairs is very nice with views out of three sides. The lobby is appointed with marble and is decorated in white, giving it a beachy but contemporary feel. There's a bar in the lobby but we never sat there as the weather was very nice while we were there, so we sat outside.

Staff: The staff here was incredibly helpful and nice. They greeted you each time you walked by the front desk, in the hallways, or wherever they passed you. We had an issue with one of our tours and the concierge called and rectified it immediately - with a smile.

Traffic: The one-lane street that the hotel is on is pretty busy at times but we couldn't hear any of it, and our room was on the street side of the building. There's a small patio in front of the building if you prefer to sit there and look at the water or watch the traffic go by. There's also a public bus stop right across the street from the hotel.

I highly recommend this hotel.

Just back after wonderful 2 week stay at Hotel Meditteraneo. We were unhappy with our room on arrival but were changed the following morning to a pool and garden view room which was ideal. Lovely. Spotlessly clean and very quiet. Hotel staff are excellent, friendly and nothing too much trouble for anyone. The hotels location was fantastic, fabulous views and a 15-20 min easy stroll into the centre of Sorrento. Courtesy shuttle bus runs regularly too. Breakfast was plentiful and we chose to eat outside on the terrace overlooking the bay of Naples and Sorrentine Peninsula... Fantastic!! We were staying on a half board basis and dinner had a great choice and a separate vegetarian menu was also available . Pretty extensive very reasonable wine list and knowledgable and helpful Maître D. BBQ, with live music on the pool terrace twice weekly , pianist in the dining room once a week and live easy listening music at the pool bar most evenings. Would we stay there again..,100% YES!!!! We went into several other hotels for drinks nearby, some with the extra star, but none compared with the Meditteraneo!!! Loved it!!

Wanted a special place for a holiday for a special birthday. This was perfect in every way. We had beautiful views from our room, the Staff were brilliant, food scrumptious, everything we needed for a relaxing holiday. Hotel staff made my birthday extra special by arranging gifts sent from home and presenting me with a small gift too. Pina on reception was especially helpful, arranging excursions and taxis, giving directions, infact, anything we asked of her, she tried to help us with.
'Nobody' in the bar made you feel welcome and relaxed with his jokes and banter.
A mention too for the hotel shuttle service to and from Sorrento, came and collected us even out of timetable hours. All the staff were friendly and helpful and made the holiday even more enjoyable. My only disappointment, if you can call it that, was that there were no tea/coffee making facilities in our room and I missed my 'early morning cuppa' but otherwise everything was lovely.
We intend to visit again but will stay half board, not bed and breakfast, as we ended up eating evening meals at the hotel on quite a few occasions and we think it would have worked out cheaper for us.

Your hotel is wonderful. Our scene of the sea from our balcony was breathtaking. The staff went way beyond by even having our tours pick us up at the hotel instead of going to the meeting places. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. The pool area is beautiful. The food also great. We were all over Italy in our 14 day stay and this hotel ranked number 1.

The Amalfi Coast is beautiful but we especially liked staying near Sorrento so we had sunsets every evening which you won't have in Positano or Amalfi. Sant'Agnello is lovely -- quieter and more peaceful than Sorrento but still close enough to walk into town. This hotel boasts the best staff -- everyone is on their game to do their best and ensure you have a wonderful time. Especially Americo! He's number #1! The food and breakfasts were just perfect with fresh squeezed orange juice and cappuccinos -- just ask for one and they will make it for you. We stayed in a top floor room with a view (408 and 405) but it is noisy at night, especially with weddings since this is a premiere spot for a couple of hotels. If we come again we would stay in a top floor on the back side facing the pool. It would be quieter and you can still see the view from the 5th floor, the bar area, and the open square right on the sea outside the hotel. From midnight to 6:00 we slept well -- there was two barking dogs across the street that barked every morning from 6-7 but not sure what anyone can do about that. The rooms were all you could want -- clean, neat, and wonderfully comfortable beds. New (small compared to US) showers too. Bottomline, they will arrange shuttles and accommodate you in any possible way you need. There is no perfect hotel but this staff understands hospitality like no other hotel we've stayed in. Aniello, Pina, Armerico and of course Nobody deserve great praise for working hard Where else is there a bartender named Nobody who can entertain everyone -- especially my kids!? They are still talking about the great staff and how Nobody cares, Nobody will get them an orange soda.

Room Tip: Get a room on the back side of the hotel overlooking the pool -- less noise and nice view of pool an...
