“lovely place-definite place if in area”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 26, 2013

We went here our first night on the basis of other reviews.. Place is nothing to look at and we would not have gone if not having read about it on trip advisor. Dont be put off by menu- the waiter will come and explain what they have on the menu specials that day and go with them. Fantastic pasta (after 2 weeks of eating pasta in various places in italy to compare it to) and amazing tirumisu. But the best thing was the atmostphere of the place-yes it is rough and ready and would benefit from some decent lighting but there were all regular customers-both foreign and local- who loved the place and were welcomed back. Fantastic value and the service was great. Dont go if you want white table cloths etc but do if you want a local friendly place with a good fun feel.

“Good value”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 25, 2013

Obviously a neighborhood haunt, the owner made us feel welcome and the food was good. Nothing exceptional, but a good meal at an honest price. Mom does the cooking, oldest son waits table while youngest sons kick a soccer ball around. Dad sits there and looks important.

“A slice of Italian family food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 24, 2013

We've all seen Italians that pretend to be family run with a history stretching back decades and mum being the best cook. Donna Rosa is a delight and after eating out at some of the best restaurants that Sorrento (Il Buco) and Sant'Agnello can offer during our stay, this was the only one we visited more than once. The nearest we've come to traditional authentic home Italian cooking with great service.

Firstly though a warning as if you are looking for a traditional restaurant with stuffy table service and fast food, then this isn't going to be for you. Donna Rosa is set on out on the street in a covered area. The food comes from a small kitchen in the building opposite and the pedestrians are able to walk in-between both, occasionally stopping to check the football score on the television, which is situated on the side of the building, especially if Napoli are playing. This might be a little unusual for some eaters but stick with it as the family feel will win you over with the delightful food on offer.

Mum runs the kitchen and can deliver flavours from just a handful of ingredients with ease, whether it is a first, main or desert, or the excellent daily specials. The tiramisu is a must, the pizettes (mini deep fried pizzas) are great and the sauces and vegetables are, well, taste if for yourself. During our visits, our eyes and taste buds were opened to new possibilities with Italian food.

While mum controls the kitchen a couple of her sons handle the service and treat you as one of your own; they are happy if you are enjoying her cooking as well. You may have to wait a little longer than some may appreciate but with the relaxed atmosphere, entertainment and great prices all round including cheap table wine, peroni on tap, you'll want to thank the family for their efforts and go into the kitchen to thank mum. For under 50 euros you can have a 3 course meal for 2 with drinks and still walk out with change. Donna Rosa is a great experience and was a highlight of our trip to Sant'Agnello.

“GREAT FOOD”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 23, 2013

This quant little restaurant on the side street in Sant'Agnello was a gem ! We sat at a table on the sidewalk watching soccer while eating.
Food was excellent. Real home cooking. Family business. Enzo & his little brother Christian couldn't have been nicer. What better way to top off a good meal than having an ice cold lemoncello !
Hightly recommend this place

“Good food and value, not much ambience”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 16, 2013

We ate here a couple of times during our 2 week stay and found it good value for money. The waiter is very pleasant and helpful, and the food really is home cooking done well. The bought-in "lemon cake" was a disappontment, but only because the other food and the tiramisu was so much better! There is little ambience, since the restaurant is on the street but there's no view outside the partitions, except into the bar itself. And it's a small place, so you don't get lots of people, just a basic few tables set-up in rows. Overall, well worth a try if you rate food more highly than atmoshpere, as we do most of the time.
