“i love this hotel”
Reviewed July 29, 2010

Hi all

I really reccomend this hotel.
I'm in my early 20s now but i went when i was 17 for my 18th birthday present.
I love Italy - but Sorrento is amazing.

The hotel was polite, friendly, and the food was gorgeous.
Rooms were a good size and everything worked ok.

the swimming pool got crowded at times but i dont go to italy to laze round the pool!! I went for Mt Vesuvious, if you stay at this hotel, make sure you do the vesuvious and pompei trip, its brilliant, and so is Ischia.

This is a great budget hotel with really friendly staff.
We only had B&B (we would not eat in a hotel for dinner anyway) though the breakfast was of normal Italian standard (poor) so get out and enjoy a good lunch instead. We had the air con included in our rate, but check out your package as you may have to pay extra.
The rooms were comfortable and spacious, though the shower was the smallest I've ever found and although not too overweight could not bend down to pick up the soap if I dropped it.
The road noise was a bit of an issue, but better than some in the area, they gladly moved us to a room further back from the road but it was still audible - just take some earplugs in your luggage.
The pool was adequate and it's nice to have somewhere to cool off after a day out sightseeing - other hotels we've stayed at in the area had no pool at all.
The hotel is a bit like stepping back in time, but if you want a reasonably priced, comfortable, friendly hotel in 15-20 minutes walk of the town centre.
We felt it was a great base for sightseeing, easy car parking (they move the cars around for you) and is good value for money.
Thank you for an enjoyable stay! :-)

We stayed at the hotel Londra for 2 weeks half board and had a fantastic holiday. The location is halfway between St Agnello and Sorrento. If you turned left then right then left from the hotel there was a shortcut to Sorrento (about 10 mins walk). This avoided walking along the main road although an occasional scooter did pass through also taking advantage of the shortcut. This route also meant passing a friendly run Italian bar that was great for watching the World Cup while we were there!
Having been to Italy a couple of times previously, the noise and hustle and bustle, scooter noise etc is almost inevitable, and so we found that the location of this hotel was a good spot, away from the much noisier centre of Sorrento. Also it was a great base to explore the area on local transport. We went to Pompeii & Herculaneum by train, Capri on the ferry, and Amalfi by bus.
Breakfast at the hotel was uninspiring, but the evening meals were very good with an excellent choice. The waiting staff are extremely friendly and polite. The carafes of wine are reasonably priced. We spent many evenings in the hotel bar enjoying the football, and do feel entertainment was required.
The showers are small, the walls and the towels are thin !- but these are the only negatives I can think of.
The staff were helpful and friendly, and the hotel was spotlessly clean.
Overall for the price we paid it was excellent value.

I have just returned from a holiday to Sorrento with my husband - we are a young couple in our late twenties/early thirties and could not believe the inadequate standards of this hotel. To start and as others have said; it is situated beside an extremely busy road so be warned - if you're planning plenty of lie-ins; this is not the hotel for it. We did not have one decent night's sleep here, having been awoken from 6am and earlier every morning. This is also partly due to the fact that there is no sound proofing in the rooms. It is also no where near Sorrento itself as it claims (it is actually located in St Agnello - not Sorrento) - it will take about 15 minutes to walk into the town centre but you are literally taking your own life into your hands if you choose to walk as there are no footpaths in parts of the road and Italian drivers can be wreckless at the very least. The alternative is to take a taxi from outside the hotel which will set you back about 12euro for a three minute drive or try and figure out the seemingly complicated local bus system (2.40 each way).
Secondly, the food is terrible. The breakfast is a waste of time - you are provided with stale bread and reformed ham and cheese. Lunch is no better - we ate lunch on two occasions and vowed to eat out from then on due to the pitiful dishes we were served up. Many of the staff/management are rude, abrupt, unfriendly and unpatient - as illustrated on several occasions during our stay eg my husband ordered some drinks before ordering some lunch and the waiter flat out refused, stating that he would bring our drinks with the food . Also, we accessed the internet on the eve of our departure (not free - 6 euro per hour) and the man on reception left us sitting in the dark while doing so. This reinforces a fact that was made completely obvious over the course of the week - the hotel operates from an ethos of complete meanness - you pay 7euro a day if you want to avail of airconditioning facilities and 5euro per day if you want a fridge in your room (these fridges were stacked on the staircase when we arrived). The decor throughout is completely outdated - the entire hotel needs to be gutted and refurbished. The pool is tiny and the surrounding area is very small and uninviting. The atmosphere is dull; they provide no entertainment and guests are instead left listening to the music provided by the Hotel Florida next door (which appears to have a much higher standard of facilities). Furthermore, our room was infested with ants - every morning we awoke to find a trail of ants on the walls of the bedroom. In addition, the hotel charged us 30euro on our departure as we misplaced our room key during the week (they do not use electronic cards but 'real' keys). When we could not find the key initially, they assured us it would not be a problem however as the days progressed and the key failed to turn up, they grew extremely irate; culminating in the aforementioned exorbitant charge. This hotel is no where near the three stars it suggests that it has been awarded. It is more like a hostel than a hotel and there is no way I would recommend it to anyone. We enjoyed our holiday in Sorrento but only due to the fact that we minimised our time in this hotel as much as possible. However, Hotel Londra definitely cast a shadow over our entire experience. If you're planning a trip to Sorrento - it is well worth paying that little bit extra to avoid the nightmare that is Hotel Londra.

Hotel Londra was IMMENSE.
The rooms were very cosy ;)
The beds were bouncy and catered for all our needs ;)
The food, although not particularly varied, was extremely healthy and typically Italian. We enjoyed the unconventional dining experience created by having a mirrored wall in the dining room, in which it was possible to watch the waiters going about their business and also to watch fellow guests descending the stairs.
The hotel staff were extremely friendly and helpful, the memory of one in particular has stayed with us- and not just because of his strong resemblance to Jude Law.
It was always clean, we found no problem with the shower size and managed to squeeze more than one in at a time to save water.
They were very accommodating when we came back slightly.... incapacitated and were helpful in escorting our unwanted suitors off the premises.
Definitely one of the best holidays I can recall, and planning to visit again next year.

The hotel was spotlessly clean and the staff very helpful. I agree with the reviewer who said if you want the Ritz go to the Ritz. Yes it was basic, but had everything we wanted and was very good value for money, the food was plentiful and we were offered second helpings of the starter every night (always a choice of pasta, rice, soup or fruit juice). We arrrived late the first night but were still fed!.
The staff were very helpful and made phone calls for us etc.
The only thing you should know is that out of season school parties appear to be their main buisness, at least 6 came and went while we were there (it was half term). They were all well behaved, but at times the noise level in the dinning room was almost painful. However it seemed to be confined to meal times, they were out all day and quiet at night, no running up and down corridors etc.
Bus into Sorrento from the top of the side street next to the hotel, but most times we walked, takes about 20 mins. About halfway between Sorrento and San Angello stations on the Circumvesuviana (local train from Naples).
We would certainly go again.
