“Not 4*”
Reviewed September 6, 2011

We went with Omega travel. Paid upgrade to go 4*, further upgrade for Superior room with balcony. This room was tired, dated, the balcony was diminutive with two ancient chairs, no table, rusty ironwork, flaky paint, situated at the back of the hotel. Reception Manager condescending. People who did not upgrade landed with better rooms. The rest of the hotel was average, food adequate. Definitely at the lower end of 3* not 4* Sorrento area beautiful. Our Tour Guide Gino fantastic. Omega unhelpful. Would not recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Pay for Standard room as Superior not Superior

Ater staying at other 4star hotels in the Sorrento area we found this hotel rather disappointing. The hotel itself seemed rather charming and the pool area was first class.Staff were friendly and the rooms were very clean but somewhat tired looking. For a 4star hotel you would expect some little bathroom essentials and a box of tissues, all we had were small tablets of soap and little sachets of shampoo. This to me was not 4star. After reading other reviews on trip advisor i can only assume that during our stay that the chef was on holiday, but was kind enough to leave behind his tin opener.
The food was most definatlely 2star. We made several complaints to the dinning room staff and also the thompson rep Rachel, but alas to no avail.
Breakfast was boring,mundane and inadaquate
The evening meal consisted of a buffet salad containing tinned carrots tinned green beans and tinned potatoes. The menu sounded superb untill your choice arrived at your table, along with the tinned seasonal vegatables, we were very dissatisfied
So anybody expecting good Italian food this is not the hotel for you.
We would not stay at this hotel again and certainly would not recommend it.
It is not good value for money
The good thing about it was the location.

Our air conditioned, en suite superior room was clean, comfortable and very spacious and accomodated 2 adults and a 12year old perfectly. The balcony was very small and meant that we only used it individually and occasionally. The room was very well maintained- cleaned daily and bed clothes changed twice weekly. The complimentary toiletries were also replenished frequently. Tea and coffee making facilities would be a welcome addition.
On a couple of occasions we found the noise in adjoining rooms and the scraping of chairs accross the floor in the room above a bit annoying. but on the whole the hotel is quiet.

The pool area at the hotel is excellent- very clean and well maintained. Towels are available for hire, as you are noy allowed to use the towels from your room at the pool. The bar at the pool is open all day serving drinks, snacks, ice cream etc. They operate a 'tab' system which was welcome and meant that you didn't have to carry money down to the poolside. Prices are reasonable for a hotel and actually the Caprese Salad we had for lunch one day was probably the best we had in Sorrento!

The decor in the Hotel is dated. It would benefit from eg table tennis, pool table and or table football and there is plenty of space which would accomodate it. There were alot of families staying and 'entertainment' was available a few nights only. It consisted of a man singing and playing a key board- some of the older Italian couples danced. On Tuesday nights the Hotel does a pizza party in the pool area. This was good with a selection of pizzas on offer.

We stayed on a bed and breakfast basis. Breakfast (7am-9.30am) was good with a good selection of cereal, fruit, yogurt, croissants, pastries aswell as eggs, bacon and sausage, however it was a bit repetative. It didn't matter if you arrived after 9am for breakfast it was kept well stocked.

The staff were efficient and helpful when answering queries. The hotel is about 20mins walk at good pace from the centre of Sorrento. The hotel provides a courtesy shuttle bus which goes in and out of Sorrento 4 times a day.. The last bus back to the Hotel at 10pm gets very full! Public buses are also frequent.
Sant Agnello itself is handy. There is a nice church, some shops, post office, tourist info, supermarket and a good selection of restaurants. Be sure you try Moonlight restaurant for great pizza. pasta, fish risotto and desserts.

The main road Corso Italia is very busy with narrow footpaths. we did walk into Sorrento plenty times along it but also enjoyed exploring some of the other quieter streets and found that you could walk into Sorrento on less busy side roads/ streets which run almost parallel to the corso italia.

The train station is about 500 meteres from the hotel. Services are frequent. It takes less than 5 mins to get into Sorrento and also means that Pompei, Vesuvius, Herculaneum and Naples are all easily accesible. IT only cost about 10 euro return for the 3 of us to go to Pompei ( at the weekend- it is slightly more expensive during the week) The hotel reception staff will give you a timetable.

We really enjoyed our holiday in Sorrento and the hotel was a good, clean and comfortable base from which to explore.

we stayed in this hotel from july 10th for 7 nights and were very happy with it. The decor is a little dated and carpets in hallways and bedrooms need to be updated but it is spotlessly clean.
we went half board and ate in the dining room 4 nights out of the 7. The menu was varied , food was plentiful and service excellent.
The pool area has recently been refurbished and is excellent, beautifully kept and has a large shaded area to eat lunch and have a drink out of the sun.

It takes approx 15 mins to walk to centre of Sorrento and there is also a very handy courtesy bus which drops you right in the centre. There is plenty of bars in sant agnello , Tony's out the hotel gate and right a few yards , in front of church is very good . Staff very friendly. Da peppino in sant agnello very good and reasonably priced. We went to antica trattoria in sorrento but found it over priced and there was a very annoying man playing the mandolin in diner's faces.
Sorrento is lovely , scenery is fab and people very friendly A wonderful holiday destination.

We are just back from an Omega holiday trip to Sorrento, we stayed at the Grand Hotel Parco Del Sole which is about a 20 minute walk from Sorrento. The hotel offers a shuttle service, it's easily walkable however it is along quite a busy road with narrow pavements, beware of the scooters. We found the room excellent (we hadn't paid extra for one with a balcony - balconies are tiny), with a lovely bathroom, we couldn't fault the cleanliness of any area of the hotel. The staff were efficient and friendly and went the extra mile without being too in your face. The hotel is in an excellent location, in lovely grounds with a very large pool area and bar area. The choice of food was very good, choice of 5 starters and 5 mains with a buffet salad and dessert table, couldn't fault breakfast either, excellent selection. Coffee is brought to you in a jugful as is hot chocolate, so be warned! On a Tuesday evening there is a pizza evening where you will taste pizza like you have never tasted. Bar charges are reasonable.
Our tour guide Gino was excellent - trips to Pompei & climbed to the top of Vesivius, hydrofoil to Capri and the Amalfi coast. All very interesting and highly recommended. We thought the whole package overall was excellent value for money and would definiately travel with Omega again.

Room Tip: Don't pay extra for a balcony

Hotel is very dated but in a good location. The pool area was very nice with a good view. We didn't eat at the hotel as the dated restaurant decor gave the impression that the food wouldn't be great. The hotel was a little expensive and if the pool area wasn't so nice I would have been disappointed with my stay.

We stayed at this hotel for a week in July when Sorrento is possibly at it's busiest and we were very grateful for it's long, pretty driveway leaving it set way back from the very busy main road (we noticed many of the hotels are located right on this noisy busy road) and it's lovely, relaxing pool area set in a valley with lovely views of the surrounding mountains.
The hotel itself is typically Italian with a lovely reception area and very well kept gardens, rooms which are a little old fashioned but clean and good air conditioning. We had a good sized balcony with table and chairs which was nice for sitting out in the evening. The rooms were cleaned daily and well stocked and beds were turned down while we were out in the evenings. The only real downside is that the walls really are thin so you can hear alsorts, however with the air-com on all other noise is blocked out! It didn't bother us at all. The pool area and poolside snack bar seem to have been very recently added or renovated and are very modern and well done. We spent lots of time here! The snack bar served great lunches and cool drinks which were very welcome for a relaxing break from the hot Italian sunshine! The staff here were great, meals served quickly and the selection is very good.
Breakfast....well breakfast is what it is. A good selection of pastries, cereals, yogurts and breads along with some bacon and eggs and cold meats etc. I would have preferred a better selection of real fresh fruit given where we were but it was fine. Again service was very efficient and there was a lot to choose from. We didn't eat in the restaurant for dinner-too many lovely places to eat in Sorrento-but the menu looked nice enough.
The location of the hotel is good or baddepending on what you want. Good because you are well away from the hustle and bustle of Sorrento but bad if you don't like walking-it's a good 20/25 minute walk along a very busy road into the main area. Having said that we walked it loads of times and really didn't mind it and there is a very good free shuttle bus from the hotel at peak times which we used quite often, and a local bus stop just around the corner so if walking isn't your thing you can get around that! The local area has a nice little piazza with a very good wine bar with a great selection of local wines, plus a couple of other bars and some restaurants. Sorrento is busy and full of things to do, we didn't eat a bad meal all week and I must give a special mention to a place called 'Meating' which we discovered on our last night. It serves meat basically but in a lovely modern way...really worth a try when you've had your fill of pasta and pizza! Parco del Sole is a very well run hotel, great staff, great pool. Nice place to have a good mix of exploring and relaxing, great if you just want to enjoy the sunshine in Italy! Enjoy Sorrento!
