Our air conditioned, en suite superior room was clean, comfortable and very spacious and accomodated 2 adults and a 12year old perfectly. The balcony was very small and meant that we only used it individually and occasionally. The room was very well maintained- cleaned daily and bed clothes changed twice weekly. The complimentary toiletries were also replenished frequently. Tea and coffee making facilities would be a welcome addition.
On a couple of occasions we found the noise in adjoining rooms and the scraping of chairs accross the floor in the room above a bit annoying. but on the whole the hotel is quiet.
The pool area at the hotel is excellent- very clean and well maintained. Towels are available for hire, as you are noy allowed to use the towels from your room at the pool. The bar at the pool is open all day serving drinks, snacks, ice cream etc. They operate a 'tab' system which was welcome and meant that you didn't have to carry money down to the poolside. Prices are reasonable for a hotel and actually the Caprese Salad we had for lunch one day was probably the best we had in Sorrento!
The decor in the Hotel is dated. It would benefit from eg table tennis, pool table and or table football and there is plenty of space which would accomodate it. There were alot of families staying and 'entertainment' was available a few nights only. It consisted of a man singing and playing a key board- some of the older Italian couples danced. On Tuesday nights the Hotel does a pizza party in the pool area. This was good with a selection of pizzas on offer.
We stayed on a bed and breakfast basis. Breakfast (7am-9.30am) was good with a good selection of cereal, fruit, yogurt, croissants, pastries aswell as eggs, bacon and sausage, however it was a bit repetative. It didn't matter if you arrived after 9am for breakfast it was kept well stocked.
The staff were efficient and helpful when answering queries. The hotel is about 20mins walk at good pace from the centre of Sorrento. The hotel provides a courtesy shuttle bus which goes in and out of Sorrento 4 times a day.. The last bus back to the Hotel at 10pm gets very full! Public buses are also frequent.
Sant Agnello itself is handy. There is a nice church, some shops, post office, tourist info, supermarket and a good selection of restaurants. Be sure you try Moonlight restaurant for great pizza. pasta, fish risotto and desserts.
The main road Corso Italia is very busy with narrow footpaths. we did walk into Sorrento plenty times along it but also enjoyed exploring some of the other quieter streets and found that you could walk into Sorrento on less busy side roads/ streets which run almost parallel to the corso italia.
The train station is about 500 meteres from the hotel. Services are frequent. It takes less than 5 mins to get into Sorrento and also means that Pompei, Vesuvius, Herculaneum and Naples are all easily accesible. IT only cost about 10 euro return for the 3 of us to go to Pompei ( at the weekend- it is slightly more expensive during the week) The hotel reception staff will give you a timetable.
We really enjoyed our holiday in Sorrento and the hotel was a good, clean and comfortable base from which to explore.
