Joining friends who had spent 3 nights in Rome we reserved 5 nights in this pleasant and well situated hotel. On a quiet side street named after the American author Marion Crawford; close to bus and train stations and main road. We were initially given a west southwest (sunny side) facing double room on the 5th floor but changed to a 3rd floor north east room with views over Bay of Naples. The room was comfortable and spotlessly clean with Wi-Fi and Sky TV but with no UK stations apart from Sky news international. Bathroom provided everything required but could do with some renovation –especially the stand in bath plastic curtain shower. Bar, restaurant and pool all good but on expensive side. Traveller tip – avoid the taxis they are brutal. Visit Capri but expect extortionate prices for beer, coffee and gelato. Take tour guide at Pompeii having travelled there by train. Enjoy churches, streets and views of Sorrento but again expect high prices.

Room Tip: Sunny balconies on far side of hotel are away from occasional street noises

My friend and I have just returned from a week at Majestic Palace hotel situated in a tranquil yet convenient location just outside Sorrento. On arrival we were a little disappointed with the room we were allocated (room 7) as it was dark, with no private outside space and situated under the dining room/kitchen. This resulted in a lot of overhead noise from 6am. However, the reception staff were extremely helpful in moving us to a lovely spacious room on the same floor as soon as practicable. A big improvement!
I cannot praise the staff highly enough at this hotel. I found them very professional and proactive. They summoned a doctor within 15 minutes when I required medical attention and drove me to hospital the following day. Nothing was too much trouble for them. They were very solicitous of my welfare and constantly offered room service in place of restaurant dining during the period I was ill. At this point I would also like to give a special mention to Claire, the Thomas Cook representative. She is a credit to her company.
Back to the hotel - fabulous views of Vesuvius, Bay of Naples and the surrounding mountains from the outside areas on the second and fifth floors. Plenty of space to sit and relax both inside and outside bar area on the ground floor. Good choice of food and wine in tranquil, spacious dining room with the accompaniment of ambient music which aided a relaxed atmosphere.
To sum up - a lovely hotel in a great location with excellent staff. Wish we could have stayed longer.

We started our first night from our Italian holiday with a stop at Majestic Palace Hotel. I reserved it on the internet and noticed that the parking was with extra charge, It was not mentionned how much and I have sent an email to inquire and to book it but never received an answer. The parking was € 15 at the end and was still available (only 6 places) ... Except of this, the staff, particularly at the reception was very friendly and helpful. Majestic hotel has a lovely pool and is situated to a walkable distance from Sorrento (20 minutes). The room was nice, big and spotless. The bathroom was very clean and you get very good products (shower gel, soap, shampoo ...) and free slippers. There is a minibar/fridge and a TV. We had a nice shared terrasse. Free wi-fi is provided in the common areas. Breakfast is good. I particularly liked the furniture in the dining room and the hall ! I can recommend this hotel, especially for that price !

We stayed at this hotel last week to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary. We were given a superb room with a lovely sunny balcony (room 304), Thank you for the lovely flowers and bottle of wine which was in our room on arrival, it was a really nice touch. All the staff were excellent and the hotel was superb. We would have no hesitation in recomending this hotel.

Room Tip: Garden view rooms have sunny balconies

We have just returned from a week in this hotel. We booked a superior room with balcony & views. The room was lovely on the fourth floor with the sun on the balcony all day, lovely. The room & all the hotel are very tired & need refurbishing. The rug in our room was filthy & the room was certainly not cleaned to my standards. We had ants all over the towels every morning & complained to reception twice but it was never rectified. We had to ask the Thomas Cook rep (who was fantastic & full of knowledge about the areas) to resolve the cleaning matter. The carpets in the corridors were dirty, threadbare & stained. The gardens are all overgrown with weeds. Such a shame that they have just been left as they could be beautiful if worked on. Some staff were very pleasant but some didn't want to be bothered with guests. I did think the dining area was understaffed & they worked very hard in there. There seemed to be regular German tour groups of around seventy guests & as one party left another arrived. They were like locusts around the buffet dessert table & we found a lot of the time this was not repleneshed. The food was not as good as we have had in other Italian hotels. In my opinion this is certainly not a 4 star hotel.
The pool area was lovely & the two terraces on the second & fifth floors were beautiful.
The drinks are expensive in the hotel & be aware don't believe the brochures about bars & restaurants close by as there are virtually none. It is a pleasant 30 minute walk into Sorrento Town which is buzzing, lots of atmosphere. From Sorrento, walk down to Marina Grande (our rep told us about this) It is beautiful, like an old Greek fishing village, such a contrast from up in Sorrento Town. Sant'Agnello is just a working town! Not a holiday destination. The church there is beautiful with a lovely chiming clock on the quarter hour. The Amalfi Drive tour is worth every penny especially if you get a good guide as we did (Luciano). Go to Pompeii rather than Herculanium as there is so much more to see & both are easy to get to by the local train.

Room Tip: It is not worth paying extra for a superior room (high floor with views). I would say pay for a balc...

Dear Susan L,

Thank you very much for choosing our Hotel and for sharing your Personal Opinion on TripAdvisor.
We always consider carefully all the reviews, feedback, suggestions from our guests and we always try to do our best to learn more and improve.
We do not agree with you on many points such as when you wrote about the cleanliness of your room, our garden, food and especially regarding our Staff that "didin't want to be bothered with guests".... but are you sure that we are talking about the same Hotel, the Majestic Palace?

I really cannot fault this hotel in any way and to be honest i wouldnt want to as i think you have to be looking very hard to find a fault worth mentioning,Yes there are a few issues but they are so minor and insignificant compared to the plus points i do not think they are worth mentioning here.
Lovely reception area with a very fast and un complicated check in.
We had a second floor room with balcony.Very nicely and simply decorated in traditional Italian style. The room was spotlessly cleaned every day.A nice little fridge and minibar.A little expensive as are all minbar tarrifs.Water and soft drinks can be bought from a variety of small shops within a 5min walk of the hotel. As can any train or bus tickets that you may require for excursions.
The bar and pool area are beautifull. We did not encounter any problem of early morning towel planting on sunbeds as in some previous reviews and basically always found somewhere to sit and enjoy a cooling drink or lovely coffee.A word of thanks goes to the bar staff and especially the tall shaven headed Juventus supporting barman whos name we never did get but was charming and completely professional during our stay. Many thanks Juve!
The dinning room was a very tranquil and beautifull room to dine in.Breakfast was very nice with a good choice of cooked and cold foods and cake and pastry selections.Fruit juices, coffes and tea.A very hearty start to the busy day day ahead.
Dinner was very nice.Salad selection.Starters, mains and choice of deserts. The wine list was also very good and a big grazi to Vincenso for his recommendations of locally produced wines that never let us down.If you are going to the Majestic any time seek his advice and he will be only too pleased to assist.
Sorrento is a good 20 min walk away or 5 mins on the bus.We prefered the walk as it was great fun.
We chose to book our trips out through the hotel which was slightly cheaper than through Thomas Cooks rep service.
In St Agnello itself there are a good few shops to browse and bars to eat and drink in.Our favorite was Tonys bar.A slab of wooden decking roped in in the middle of the road basically. You can sit here and watch Italian life go by whilst being entertained by Tonys brilliant hospitality.
All in all i think you could find faults wherever you may stay but i would have no hesitation in recommending this beautiful hotel and the town of St Agnello and Sorrento.I would love to go back here and will definately be staying here again.
To all staff at The Majestic Palace......MILLE GRAZIE!

Room Tip: Choose a room with balcony as opposed to a patio.

ROOMS Returned a few weeks ago from this hotel and feel I should write to warn others that when you see the photograph of the hotel with lovely balcony rooms --you may not get one!!
Our room was in the basement area --roomy but dull , with an outside seating area looking onto a wall. There are a number of rooms down there some even poorer than ours as they were under the dining room/kitchen and people in them were wakened early by feet pounding above them.
DINING We found waiters too aggressive at clearing tables-if cutlery was resting on plate they were always wanting to clear it while we were still eating.Salad buffet for dinner first course was exactly same every night!! !Hot table at breakfast was exactly same every morning.
GENERAL Hotel in general and bedrooms kept clean.Staff helpful [except when you asked for change of room]

Room Tip: Always make sure you are not in the basement downstairs.

Dear TempyGlasgow,

Thank you very much for choosing our Hotel and for sharing your experience on TripAdvisor.
I would like to reply to your review and clarify some points:
I still can't understand why people go to the travel agency (or on-line), book a specific room, pay a specific price for that room… but they ask/claim at the same price for a different better room which cost more!
Usually a person choose a product, pay for that product and receive it… In any other field (of activity) it work in this way… it isn’t true??
You booked a room on ground floor with patio and we gave you the room that you booked and paid for. So I really don’t understand your complaint when you say “I should write to warn others that when you see the photograph of the hotel with lovely balcony rooms --you may not get one!!” You didn’t get one simply because you booked and paid for a room on ground floor with patio not with balcony!
We would like to clarify (especially for readers) that all our rooms on ground floor are soundproofed.
Anyway when guests would like to move in a room with balcony and we have a chance (depends on availability), we'll charge an upgrade (extra payment for a room on high floor with balcony and view).
On our buffet we serve a large variety of salads (not less of 13 different types!) and we really apologize if 13 variety of salads are not enough.
Regarding the Staff I prefer to not reply… do it for me the 99% of reviews shared on TripAdvisor!

Best Regards
Giuseppe Cannavale
