“Fabulous Hotel and a lovely holiday.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 29, 2012

I really cannot fault this hotel in any way and to be honest i wouldnt want to as i think you have to be looking very hard to find a fault worth mentioning,Yes there are a few issues but they are so minor and insignificant compared to the plus points i do not think they are worth mentioning here.
Lovely reception area with a very fast and un complicated check in.
We had a second floor room with balcony.Very nicely and simply decorated in traditional Italian style. The room was spotlessly cleaned every day.A nice little fridge and minibar.A little expensive as are all minbar tarrifs.Water and soft drinks can be bought from a variety of small shops within a 5min walk of the hotel. As can any train or bus tickets that you may require for excursions.
The bar and pool area are beautifull. We did not encounter any problem of early morning towel planting on sunbeds as in some previous reviews and basically always found somewhere to sit and enjoy a cooling drink or lovely coffee.A word of thanks goes to the bar staff and especially the tall shaven headed Juventus supporting barman whos name we never did get but was charming and completely professional during our stay. Many thanks Juve!
The dinning room was a very tranquil and beautifull room to dine in.Breakfast was very nice with a good choice of cooked and cold foods and cake and pastry selections.Fruit juices, coffes and tea.A very hearty start to the busy day day ahead.
Dinner was very nice.Salad selection.Starters, mains and choice of deserts. The wine list was also very good and a big grazi to Vincenso for his recommendations of locally produced wines that never let us down.If you are going to the Majestic any time seek his advice and he will be only too pleased to assist.
Sorrento is a good 20 min walk away or 5 mins on the bus.We prefered the walk as it was great fun.
We chose to book our trips out through the hotel which was slightly cheaper than through Thomas Cooks rep service.
In St Agnello itself there are a good few shops to browse and bars to eat and drink in.Our favorite was Tonys bar.A slab of wooden decking roped in in the middle of the road basically. You can sit here and watch Italian life go by whilst being entertained by Tonys brilliant hospitality.
All in all i think you could find faults wherever you may stay but i would have no hesitation in recommending this beautiful hotel and the town of St Agnello and Sorrento.I would love to go back here and will definately be staying here again.
To all staff at The Majestic Palace......MILLE GRAZIE!

Room Tip: Choose a room with balcony as opposed to a patio.

ROOMS Returned a few weeks ago from this hotel and feel I should write to warn others that when you see the photograph of the hotel with lovely balcony rooms --you may not get one!!
Our room was in the basement area --roomy but dull , with an outside seating area looking onto a wall. There are a number of rooms down there some even poorer than ours as they were under the dining room/kitchen and people in them were wakened early by feet pounding above them.
DINING We found waiters too aggressive at clearing tables-if cutlery was resting on plate they were always wanting to clear it while we were still eating.Salad buffet for dinner first course was exactly same every night!! !Hot table at breakfast was exactly same every morning.
GENERAL Hotel in general and bedrooms kept clean.Staff helpful [except when you asked for change of room]

Room Tip: Always make sure you are not in the basement downstairs.

Dear TempyGlasgow,

Thank you very much for choosing our Hotel and for sharing your experience on TripAdvisor.
I would like to reply to your review and clarify some points:
I still can't understand why people go to the travel agency (or on-line), book a specific room, pay a specific price for that room… but they ask/claim at the same price for a different better room which cost more!
Usually a person choose a product, pay for that product and receive it… In any other field (of activity) it work in this way… it isn’t true??
You booked a room on ground floor with patio and we gave you the room that you booked and paid for. So I really don’t understand your complaint when you say “I should write to warn others that when you see the photograph of the hotel with lovely balcony rooms --you may not get one!!” You didn’t get one simply because you booked and paid for a room on ground floor with patio not with balcony!
We would like to clarify (especially for readers) that all our rooms on ground floor are soundproofed.
Anyway when guests would like to move in a room with balcony and we have a chance (depends on availability), we'll charge an upgrade (extra payment for a room on high floor with balcony and view).
On our buffet we serve a large variety of salads (not less of 13 different types!) and we really apologize if 13 variety of salads are not enough.
Regarding the Staff I prefer to not reply… do it for me the 99% of reviews shared on TripAdvisor!

Best Regards

We selected this hotel as it offered parking and few hotels do . This we secured by email at 15.00 per day which was a really good job as parking was minimal at hotel location . The garage was gated and fit about 6 vehicles. A mirror of the street was a godsend to exiting onto a small one way street. We also booked an extra bed as our adult daughter was travelling with us. This was all nicely set up and
The room was large with a separate foyer but on entering there was this awful smell which turned out to be the small fridge . There was a very nasty moldy tray in it and the fridge was not running . We called the desk and someone was sent up to see. As the toilet seat was also cracked they were able to replace that immediately but the fridge was exchanged the next day. ... The room had large wooden shutters which led to a small balcony . From the balcony we could see a great view of Sorrento the mountains and the Sea . Tjhe first night was quiet and we had a nice sleep but then the air conditioner in the hotel broke and for the next 2 nights we were very uncomfortable. My husband asked for a fan and they said they had none. On the second night a small table top fan was left in the room.
The included buffet breakfasts in the dining room were delightful with a great variety for all tastes . I found I was very thirsty and there was always lots of juices and bottled water to drimk .
The pool looked nice but very busy . Everywhere in and around the hotel looked clean.
There was a lot of construction in the area but I was surprised we never heard anything in our room That was nice.

Dear H.O.

Thank you very much for choosing our hotel and for sharing your experience on TripAdvisor.
We are very pleased to read that you appreciated the quiet room you had with great view of Sorrento.
We do apologize for the problems you had with the mini-bar in your room and for the trouble with A.C. for 2 days.
You have reported the problem about the fridge in the evening after your late check-in and we have replaced it the day after, as soon as our maintenance man arrived...
Regarding the air conditioning, unfortunately (as you probably remember) due to thunderstorm during the night, we had a serious problem with the unit of the air con system. We called immediately the technical and they took 2 days for repair completely the problem.
We are very sorry for the inconvenience but it didn't depend on us and we made all our best to resolve it asap. Luckily in those days it rained and the temperature werent' very hot... infact we had no complaints apart yours.
Hoping to welcome you back here

Best regards

We chose to stay at the Majestic Palace at the end our 2 week adventure in Italy.. This was our second time in Sant'Agnello so we knew we would like the area and its location. We arrived by car and were guided to the hotel by Sat Nav which in itself was an adventure as the road Crawford is on a one way system and our Sat Nav kept taking us to the wrong end of the road! Eventually we worked it out and finally arrived at the hotel. Check in was very quick and friendly, we had pre booked car parking which was located just under the hotel in a garage. There is an additional cost for this of €15.00 per day which does at first seem quite expensive, however parking is very expensive off road and you would end up spending a lot more.

Our room was very nice and clean with an excellent view (which we had paid for) the only negative point was that there was a strange smell upon entering the room, it wasn't horrible or bad enough to complain it did seem to disappear during our stay.. I put it down to the cleaning products used. The room had all the things that you would expect mini bar and toiletries etc.. There is air conditioning however 2 of our 4 nights this did not work, when we reported this to the reception we were advised that there had been a power cut that evening and this may have been the reason for the fault.. however as per other reviews this does not seem to have been a one off..

There is free Wifi which is available in the lobby or lounge area, which was perfect for us to check our e-mails etc.

Breakfast is included in the room rate and is served in the main dining room between 7am to 10am. We noticed that there were room numbers on the tables however these are not applicable to breakfast as we were advised that we could sit anywhere. Breakfast was nice and had a good selection for everyone, even bacon and scrambled eggs..

There are some very good shops about a 5 minute walk away which sell everything you may need. I would recommend buying water because as you would expect the water in the hotel is very expensive. We would also buy fresh rolls, salami and cheese and a little cheeky bottle of wine and in the afternoon have a little picnic on the balcony :-) just lovely!!

The pool area is nice however sun loungers are reserved quite early so you will need to be an early bird if you want to soak up the morning sun.. although the sun moves round the pool by the afternoon so you will see it eventually! The pool area is by the road which so at times it does get a little busy and can be a bit noisy. At check in you will be given a token for a pool towel which you can collect from the bar. Officially you can only change your towel every 3 days.. all you need to do is put your towel in the brown chest which is located outside by the bar and then ask at reception for a new towel token at reception.

If you choose to leave the hotel (which I thoroughly recommend you do!) there is a lot to explore!! firstly Sorrento is only a 20 minute walk away, however the train is even easier and is only a 5 minute walk to the station.. if the ticket desk is closed which it seemed to be for our entire stay! There is a little tourist office on the corner just before the station which sell the tickets they are standard cost €1.20 each way however if you decide to return by train then check the timetable as the last train is about 21:30 we usually ended up walking back. While in Sorrento I would recommend visiting the Foreigners Club which has fantastic views of the bay and serves delicious food at a very good price..
The trains are very easy so getting to Pompeii or Naples is simple and are seriously worth a visit! A tip and a must do - Make sure you validate your train tickets using the orange machines which are located on the platform just stick you ticket and it will print the date on the ticket.. If you don't do this and you get caught out then you will receive a big fine!

We did not stay in the hotel in evenings although the restaurant looked very good and inviting also on some evenings in the bar area there was entertainment. We chose to explore the area and found fantastic restaurants along the same road as the hotel which served delicious food and wine!! there is a wonderful bar on the seafront which had stunning views of the bay!! I would definitely recommend stopping here and having a aperitif.

The Majestic Palace is comfortable and clean and we enjoyed our 4 nights stay however this hotel is geared around it's British guests which depending on what you want from a holiday this can be a good or bad thing.. we personally prefer more authenticity and enjoy new experiences and tastes of different cultures. Would we return to Sant'Agnello absolutely! would we return to The Majestic Palace probably not which is a personal choice and not a reflection on this hotel.

I have just arrived back from a 5 day trip to sorrento, to attend a friends wedding, we stayed at this hotel, after reading reviews I decided to book up, and what a choice, this hotel is friendly, clean and quiet, the view from our room was amazing. The staff are very helpful and polite and go out their way to help you. We only stayed bed and breakfast and the choice was fab, from toast to bacon and eggs, cereal etc, and it started at 7 in the morning until 10. The pool area was small but never to busy, there are also two other sun terraces to use. The rooms are very spacious and clean, and the maids come in everyday, there is air condition also in all the room. There is free wifi available if you ask at the reception for a code, it can vary as to when it works tho. Sorrento is a beautiful place, and buzzes day and night give a wonderful feel, the views are amazing across bay and many trips to attend if that's your thing. All in all had a fantastic time would highly recommend location and especially hotel, would defiantly visit again.

We have just returned, we being myself, my wife our daughter and son in law from a brilliant weeks stay at the Majestic Palace. What a hidden gem this was our 5th stay in Sorrento but our first at the MPH. how we wished we had found it sooner. The rooms we had were lovely and spacious with great views from the balconies. We all loved the choice of food even our daughter who is a bit of a fussy eater. The staff were brilliant I'm sorry we cannot remember all their names but special mention to Guiseppe, Maria, the tall waiter at the pool bar who walked with such graceful strides, the guy who cleaned the pool who worked so hard. In fact everyone who made it such a special time. The dining room was nice and roomy, it was great to sit outside at night in the comfortable chairs and have a drink after the evening meal. We like the sun but prefer to sit in the shade so the pool area was a great place for us. The only slight criticism was as the only strong swimmer in the party the pool was a bit too deep for the rest of the party as the shallow area was very limited, only a minor problem though. In conclusion thany you everyone at the Majestic Palace for a wonderful holiday. We would recommend you totally. H&A
