Stayed here for 1 week in September 2013. Reception were very friendly, our bags were taken up to our room for us. Our room was cleaned on a daily basis with fresh towels every day. We were half board, the breakfast was very nice, especially the omlette and pancake station! There was always a choice of 5 starters and 5 mains for the evening meal and a large buffet of fresh vegetables. Also a choice of 3 deserts every night. I have to say the waiting staff were very attentive and couldnt do enough for you. Menu was also different each night. The pool area was nice and always very clean. There is air con in the rooms and was brilliant as it did not go off during the day when you were out! The bar in the hotel was open each night and often had live music. The hotel offered free shuttle transfers into Sorrento and back in the morning and evening although there are no transfers in the afternoon. We often walked back from Sorrento, the road is very busy and you have to walk in a single file but it only takes about 20 mins. We booked a transfer to the airport through the hotel which was greatly appreciated as the train ride from Naples to Sorrento on our arrival was not the most enjoyable. There are 36 stops in a 1 hour and 10 min journey!!! With no air conditioning on the train, it wasnt the most enjoyable! Overall we had a fantastic stay and would recommend this hotel to anyone.

Room Tip: Ask for a high floor, lovely views.

We stayed here for a week in August. I had previously stayed in Sorrento at the Gran Paradiso, so knew the area and knew that the la Pace wasn't in town, but we wanted a nice base that we could explore the bay of Naples from, and this certainly fit the bill. We stayed Half board. I erred about this before committing as I knew how many nice places to eat there are in Sorrento, but it was a very cost effective way of staying in Sorrento, and we were not disappointed by the quality of the restaurant food which features an extensive buffet with local and traditional produce and dishes from which you can help your self and then a served starter and main course and then pudding. For each served course there are a choice of at least 4 items. I didn't eat a bad dish in a week. The Sabayon cake was out of this world! The meat and fish dishes were always nicely cooked and imaginatively served. The breakfasts served in a separate breakfast room were very nice, with excellent egg station, the chocolate pancakes freshly cooked were particularly fine. There was a wide range of food on offer at breakfast, and your waiter offers you a selection of drinks, coffee, cappuccino, hot chocolate, espresso etc... BEWARE the orange juice at breakfast.. it is out of a machine (normal for Italian hotels.... even 5*) but it is designed to be dialuted, its a sort of syrup cordial... if you have it neat, it is revolting. The décor of the hotel is first class, and it is immaculately clean and fresh throughout. Our room on the 3rd floor faced the pool and had a lovely sea view and a corner view of vesuvious. The pool and grill are on the second floor, about the dining room, so it was just one flight down to the pool and sun terrace, which was lovely. The room itself was very clean and fresh and well serviced. The bathroom was lovely and a good size. Our only complaint about it was the temperature control of the shower was very irratic (constantly changing), I would have expected a better system in place at a hotel of this rating. Plenty of wardrobe space, comfy beds, nice mini-bar, VERY effective air-conditioning! which doesn't shut off when you take your light key out, so it was nice to come back to a cooled room after dinner even though the sun was on it. The waiting staff were all very good, particularly the two Guiseppes! The food at the pool bar, was OK, the pizza was good (Neapolitans don't tolerate bad pizza), but the menu was limited and it was impossible to get fresh fruit juice (Spremuta) which given the number of local growers was disappointing, there are granite sellers on every street corner, but you can't get one at the pool restaurant?!? Odd. The shuttle bus into town is very efficient, it certainly doesn't hang about, late by a minute and you will miss it, but it is free and the alternative a taxi ride at euro22 is a luxury we only used once when we had no alternative. It is perfectly possible to walk to Sant agnello train station, its not far (10 mins), but be warned it is not a touristy road, and the cars do NOT make allowances for tourists, they will mow you down! better to catch the shuttle. It could really do with an extra shuttle mid afternoon as you are stuck out from 12:00 - 16:00 and the buses only run hourly over the dinner hour, which means you have to be a bit careful if you are in Capri or Ischia or Naples because if you have to get up from the port to the bus park (op Grand Hotel Europa) you are quite likely to wave at the bus as it is leaving the coach park (it won't wait!). It really is too far to walk from Sorrento (at least in the heat) we are young but I think the problem is that you have to walk down the corsa Italia, which is a noisy, smelly, busy road. Then do the up hill bit. It would be fine if it was the only walking you did that day, but if you have been on a tour then it is just a bit too much.

The hotels traditional gala buffet was extremely good. It was poolside (make sure you spray yourself with lots of mozzie repellent - they are vicious here). There were multiple food stations, meat, fish, vegetables, pasta, and a whole section devoted to Mozzarella in every form imaginable. The food was always imaginatively presented, and the tables were dressed nicely. The 'traditional' dancing, with compulsory participation, is as ever, cringe-worthy, but must be taken in the spirit it is meant. It doesn't go on in debauched fashion all night, once dessert has been served, they do a few songs, whilst people enjoy their drinks and then pack up. Its a quiet hotel on the whole with low key entertainment, so don't expect lively parties. In fact we never saw the bar open (its on the ground floor - dining room on first floor). On the theme of noise, the rooms are well insulated, we didn't hear any corridor noise or neighbour noise the whole week. Rooms in the centre of the hotel probably get less noise, as there are roads running down either side of the hotel, and these often have lorries trundle through on their way out of town (we could hear them by the pool, but our room was dead centre of the hotel, and was silent as the grave through the night. Be aware that rooms on first floor are tucked at back and there are some rooms behind reception that open onto the front forecourt (probably not very private as tour buses come regularly). 3rd floor and upwards have the best views/privacy.

All in all we would really recommend the hotel. Just be aware that you need to organise yourself to make best use of the shuttle buses or factor in taxi money. They also need to do something about the showers, but a good hotel in a beautiful place.

A large 5 star hotel 2km from Sorrento and 800m up a hill from the centre of San d'Agnello.
Rooms are large and clean but there was no coffee /tea making facility. Sea view - with a telescope- rooms are the best and ours overlooked a dilapidated farm -which is presumably where the cockerel that woke us at 5 every morning lived.
Staff are friendly and helpful . Our bar bill was much less than we deserved and the business centre allowed me to order a marquee from Amazon with no problems.and a modest fee.
Breakfasts are good and plentiful with the usual stuff plus omelettes etc to order. Bacon as with all european hotels is best avoided.
You can walk down the hill to San d'Agnello but there is only really a busy road with death -defying scooterists and a couple of bars - although there is a good restaurant.
Getting to and from Sorrento is easy on the Shuttle bus. Everything closes from 1 to 5 pm so unless on a trip it's best to return to the hotel and veg for a few hours beside the pool.
We enjoyed the Tarantella evening with buffet /barbecue the Hotel put on but socially the hotel was pretty dead and the bars were almost empty even on the Jazz nights- perhaps they were forewarned - we did think there was a new song about a burned -out Dentist until we realised 'Fillings' were the sensation.
There is a hotel rep who will arrange trips but there are lots of outlets in Sorrento and the ones we booked were all well organised and very enjoyable.
Would happily stay here again but would ideally go for one of the hotels built on Sorrento's cliffs (and arrive by speed boat as some cool Italians did- but suspect there is a premium to pay for this!).

Best For ;- Cockerel loving Garboesque insomniacs.

We had expected to be nearer to Sorrento ie, walking distance, however this is just a bit too far for this. It is a suburb out of Sorrento.

However, on the bright side, the welcome at Reception was second to none. We were looked after and upgraded to a lovely suite that looked over the complex and across to Sorrento and the Bay of Naples. The rooms were generous in size and kept clean each day although the attention to the sheets left a bit to be desired.

Breakfast was included in our cost but make sure you inquire about the restaurant at night - we were told it wasn't open and headed out each night until we discovered on the last night it was open. Food is tasty and the wine good.

A shuttle bus takes guests to the bus terminal and back again during the day and night. If you want to visit other towns nearby, be warned that tours don't go every day so consider hiring a car/taxi driver We spent €140 for the day to visit Positano and is same if you have 4 people sharing it. The hotel arranged this for us quickly.

There is a great spa/beauty salon on site and a hairdresser also on set days.

Ask for a room with a view otherwise you will be opening your curtains to a less than interesting view. For 5 stars, we would have expected at least free water, tea and coffee making facilities. It is a bit tired in the upkeep, especially the pool deck but all up we enjoyed our stay and met some fun English tourists.

Room Tip: if you book a standard twin the chances are you will be at the back of the hotel with a view of unattractive buildings and even rubbish. Make sure you insist on a room with an ocean view.
