Stayed here on a 4 day break and was slightly disappointed after reading such wonderful reviews.

The rooms were big and basic, we had a room with a good size balcony which had a table and chairs. The beds were narrow and not very comfortable. The TVs in the rooms are tiny and if you want to use the mini bar in your room for your own stuff you will get charged. We got one towel each and the hand towels etc look like cut up bed sheets?!?!? Would of laos of been nice to have tea/coffee facilities in the room.

The food at the hotel was good, warm and the service was quick. The staff in the dining room and bar were all kind and friendly, reception staff were ok apart from a couple which when asked questions we were just grunted at!

There isn't anything to do on the evenings no entertainment at all, and most people went to bed by 10pm, there is Wi-Fi free at the hotel but connection was hit and miss in the bedrooms.

The hotel is situated about 35-40 mins walk to Sorrrento itself but there is a bus stop outside the hotel which will take you into the main square for e1.20 each way. Also the train station is approx. 5 mins walk away and again is cheap to use. Like most people we made our own way to places, we visited Pompeii which cost e4.40 return on the train which took around 30 mins (the entrance to the site is just right of the station a few seconds walk) and cost e11 to get onto the site we didn't do a tour as we took a decent guide book which had all the information we needed. Herculaneum again is the same cost of train and to enter and takes around 45 mins on the train (the site is just down the hill form the station around 10 min stroll again we had a guide book and didn't need a tour. We also visited Capri on the ferry which is around 30 mins away for two people return was a cost of e70, we found Capri expensive and the people not very helpful or friendly.

I would say this hotel is more of a 3*, we did enjoy our short stay as we saw some interesting places as this is what brought us to the area however I wouldn't say this was your usual holiday destination and I think I would of struggled to stay here a week

Great hotel and food excellent. Waiting staff very attentive. We certainly never experienced traffic noise in room125 and 25/30 minute nice walk into Sorrento if not bus outside hotel every half hour 1.20 Euro.Great for couples and no big noisy groups.Would certainly go back.

Room Tip: rooms on gardenside or over pool

We stayed at the Alpha in the last week of September , expecting a great time , based on revues . Unfortunately like a few other couples we were disappointed ..ok it was very clean , but isn`t that expected of 4star places . Position of the hotel is noisy even with a side room ,constant traffic, plenty of horns ! Yes its good for transport , but don't expect a relaxing time . The dining room seemed very formal ,and we didn't see much personality in the waiters except 2, one of them new . As for Gala night...a cooked turkey was wheeled in and we were expected to clap...I`ll wait for that this xmas when I do one . Most of the food was bland, not much fresh veg ,though large portions ..quality is better than quantity . Very quiet most evenings too , most people went to bed early , we kept the barman busy after 10.30 . We could not fault the reception staff ,very helpful . Beware of putting even one bottle of wine in the mini bar...it will be removed , or a charge on your bill ! So overall disappointing compared with holiday we had in Cyprus , far superior more fun, and cheaper

Firstly my wife and I enjoyed our holiday there was so many beautiful and interesting places to see
That said the the level and noise of traffic in the area and in Sorrento spoils enjoyment of walking around
Public transport was unreliable and overcrowded Hotel was 40 minute walk to Sorrento The hotel was quiet in fact after the evening meal it was dead. Food was good, the place was clean and staff were efficient if not especially friendly. Main problems were the pool area where overgrown trees caused too much shade and the dining room which lacked any ambience and you got the feeling that staff wanted you out so they could finish their shifts Having made these criticisms we tend to go for self catering holidays where others may find this particular hotel more to their taste

We have had a brilliant holiday at the Hotel Alpha. The hotel is just a short bus ride (E1.20) from Sorrento and a short walk to the sea and main S Agnello square. The hotel is clean, cool, and beautifully furnished and situated in a mature garden. The bedrooms were spotless and cleaned daily. All the staff were helpful, and friendly at all times. We enjoyed the food very much and found the menu was varied and flexible with plenty of choice. The waiters under the guidance of Salvatore were fantastic and worked hard to make sure everyone was greeted and served quickly. We were able to have a light breakfast at 6am on the day of departure which was an unexpected bonus. There were different kinds of appropriate music three times a week. On the gala night (Thurs) we were treated to a pianist playing light classical music while we dined. We also had the pleasure of a duo playing keyboard and singing once a week, and another duo playing guitar and mandolin on Sundays. We would love to return. We highly recommend this hotel, whether you're travelling independently or by package.

Room Tip: There is a lot of road noise when the french windows are open, but hardly apparent when closed. There is a lift to all floors.
