We stayed here in August 2012 for a fortnight and thoroughly enjoyed it. The hotel is well placed for the train station and it is a 25 minute walk into Sorrento, although rather hot and dusty in August. The staff are helpful and friendly and the food is very good, with exceptional service from Salvatore and his team. Although the pool area is small, it is very pleasant with plenty of trees for shade.

We stayed at this hotel in September 2012 for 14 nights having chosen it because of previous reviews but there was always a slight doubt in the back of my mind that it wouldn't live up to its billing & this proved to be the case. When we have stayed in Sorrento on previous occasions we have been at a hotel on the edge of the cliffs which gave wonderful views out to sea & I really missed this. Also part of the pleasure of foreign holidays for us is having the opportunity to socialise with fellows guests of varying nationalities, whereas at The Alpha the clientelle are predominately British customers of Thomson Holidays. We have stayed at 4 star hotels in Italy of a similar size to The Alpha & in comparison I would only rate this 3 stars. Our room was small but adequate & there was plenty of storage space for clothes. We did have a problem with ants on the second day of our stay but this was resolved immediately that I broughrt this to the attention of the chambermaid. The pool area is nothing special. Whilst there are plenty of sunbeds these are very close together & you have to climb around occupied ones to get around the pool. On a positive note, the star of the hotel is definitely Salvatore who is total command of his dining room team. In general the food was also very good with there being plenty of choice. hilst Sant Agnello is nothning in comparison to Sorrento, it is a good base for exploring the area & is only a 30 min walk into Sorrento,,the most sceneic route being the more quiet road along the cliff tops. All in all whilst enjoying our holiday I wouldn't choose to return to The Alpha.

We've stayed at the Hotel Apha for many years now and every time we are guaranteed a fantastic stay. We used to be the sort of people who never stayed at the same place twice because we liked exploring too much but with the Alpha we've been back 5 times. The staff at this family run hotel are the basis for its success. They are so friendly, conscientiousness and welcoming and as such, the hotel is always spotless, the meals are always delicious and the reception staff very informative. I would recommend this hotel to anyone thinking of staying in or around Sorrento, Sant A'gnello is charming and a lot quieter than Sorrento itself and far less touristy.

Room Tip: Rooms on the first floor have bigger balconies.

We stayed in this hotel in August 2012. We though the hotel was lovely and enjoyed our stay. As the other reviews say it is easy enough to travel from the hotel as the train station is a short walk away. We found the staff to be helpful and true professionals and the hotel is very clean and is furnished lovely. The only disappointment for us was the food. As meals are such an important part of our holiday experience for us this was a big shame and in our view let it down.

I stayed here with my girlfriend. We travelled to Naples, Capri, Sorrento, Pompeii, Amalfi drive and as far as Rome from here. So was a great base for travelling / visiting this area of Italy.

Great little hotel.
The pool was a little cold when we were there (May) but think it would be fine in the peak season.

We were breakfast only so can only comment on that mealtime. Normal continental style, meats, sausages, bacon, boiled eggs, cheeses, toast etc.

All staff friendly but Have to mention the head waiter Salvatore. Had read about him on here before our trip so expected good service and we got it. He also has great knowledge of the local area so is the man to ask for travelling this area. Very friendly, warm and welcoming man.

Myself and my boyfriend stayed here for a week in September 2012. We used it as a base to explore Sorrento, Pompeii, Herculaneum and Naples, and also spent a few afternoons by the pool - I would definitely recommend it to anyone wanting a similar sort of holiday.

Location - There is a supermarket a few minutes walk away, which is round the corner from the S'Agnello train station. The train timetables are posted on the wall by reception in the hotel so it was very easy to plan when to get to the station, and the reception staff are very helpful. S'Agnello is on a single train line, with Sorrento being one stop away (and the last station on the line) in one direction, and Pompeii etc in the other direction. It's possible to walk to and from Sorrento (takes about 30 minutes) - the coastal way is slightly longer but a lot more pleasant than along the more direct but very busy road. It's worth nothing that the last train from Sorrento back to S'Agnello is at 21.37.

Food - We didn't eat lunch or dinner at the hotel as we had only paid for B&B but there are enough nice restaurants within walking distance, and we were usually already out in Sorrento or somewhere nearby so just ate out there. There was a fair amount of choice for breakfast and Salvatore was always on hand to refill anything that had run out, or accommodate special requests.

Room - We booked this hotel through lastminute.com so we were given a room in the old tower part at the back, accessed by a pathway round the side of the hotel. The room did not look like the photos on their website (there was nothing actually wrong with it - it was just a bit dated) so I asked to move, but was told that as we had paid the cheapest rate we would have to pay more to move into the main part of the hotel. Ended up staying put as we were out and about every day so it didn't seem worth paying extra.

Pool etc. - The pool was quite small but fine for lounging around and cooling off after a day of site-seeing! I would say that it's not ideal if you just want a relaxed week of sunbathing as it's next to a fairly busy road so there is pretty much constant traffic noise. There were lots of sunbeds and chairs, though half of these were in the shade for most of the day. There is also a nice terrace area between the hotel and the pool which remained in the sun into the early evening.

Beaches - there is no real beach as such in Sorrento - there are some bathing platforms out in to the sea and a small patch of sand that is usually in the shade of the cliffs behind - so we got the train to Meta where there are some large stretches of sand about a 15min walk from the station.

Room Tip: Request a room in the main building if you can. There was nothing wrong with the room we had in the...

At least suspicious the 4 stars rating and positive reviews. The place had no air conditioning and it was infested with flies (big black annoying type) - at reception, room and worst than all: the restaurant (over food, drinks, etc...). We were given a room on 1st floor overlooking a busy street. It was impossible to relax or sleep because of traffic (mostly motorcycles), heat and The Flies.... When asked to speak to manager I was told that she was too busy... After interference of the tour operator abroad, we got another room and a dirty fan. We cut short the already fully paid holiday, with no reimbursement.
