The room was basic but clean with new towels and bed linen on a daily basis, what I was surprised to find was that is first and foremost a sports club with the swimming pool seemingly acting as the San Remo municipal swimming pool! there is also a five euro charge to use the sun lounges.

This hotel was a gem in the centre of a busy if not dissapointing resort. The pool was great and the sports facilities were superb, tennis players would love this place. It should be said that the Hotel is almost secondary to the tennis club (10 courts) which is the places main business. Beware that the Hotel wants to charge additional 5euro per day for each sun lounger (rip off), We didn't pay! THe hotel puts on shows evry third night, these are a bonus if you are not looking to leave the hotel. We travelled a lot and back into france (Menton) that was an hour there and approx half hour back late in the evening. If you are going into San Remo the best bit is the main port beyond the Casino. Find it early or you will wonder why you came here.

We were in transit between Provence and Lake Como and just needed a place to stop for the night. We booked online and didn't know what to expect. We were surprised to learn that this is a sports club (tennis, swimming etc.) with hotel rooms. There was much activity as local kids came and went for their tennis lessons. The property is not slick and has a rather lived-in feel, but also had a comfortable "neighborhood" vibe. The staff was cordial without being terribly friendly. The room was large with a large entry/closet area. It was a little odd because the flooring throughout the room was of what seemed like outdoor patio tile. There was nothing wrong with it; it just made us wonder if the area was originally a patio that had been enclosed. The bed was comfortable. We were thankful for the air conditioning. Furniture was rather old and weathered looking. The bathroom was suffiicient but better lighting would be an improvement. The *tiny* shower stall was difficult for us "large" Americans to negotiate (although we now know that this is not unusual in Italy). After dinner in town we got drinks from the bar and sat outside to watch local soccer teams playing on a small court - unusual but relaxing entertainment. We did not have breakfast on site so cannot comment. All in all the Locanda Azzura suited our needs. It is away from the center of town and therefore quiet at night (once the tennis courts closed for the evening), and parking was easy. If we wanted nightlife and entertainment we would have been disappointed, but that was not the case. We were happy with our stay. One further suggestion: A couple of good signs on the main road off the Autostrada would have been helpful as the Googled instructions we used were not clear.
