“Rosa Alpina: luxury on top of the mountains”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 24, 2013

I treated myself to a three-night ski getaway, while in Italy for a business trip, and picked this stunning 5-star hotel in the Dolomites. The property exudes luxury in every corner but it's an understated luxury, a welcoming luxury made of little details.Staff is unbeatable, they really look after every single guest in order to make your stay memorable. Great restaurants, a two Michelin star one, small and cozy (book in advance because it's not easy finding a table) and a casual easy going Wine Bar and Grill with typical Italian dishes and great pizzas.
There's also an excellent spa, I managed to go once and had a fabulous body treatment after a day of skiing, remember to book it in advance because in the afternoon might be a bit busy
The hotel is located in the center of the little town and has a courtesy shuttle van that constantly goes back and forth between the property and the slopes.
I enjoyed my stay a lot, loved the ambiance in the hotel and skied on the most beautiful slopes ever, next time is going to be a week!!!

Room Tip: ask for a room with the view over the wood, they are quiet and bright and the pine-tree forest is si...

The Dolomites was chosen by pure luck and so was this hotel. Everything was perfect and I keep trying to find something to complain about. It´s not possible. Staff excellent, rooms excellent, food excellent, everything was so nice. When you consider how much work which has to be done to make all your guest feel great all the time you really have to applaud the staff whom will do everything to make you feel happy. The hotel is beautiful and even though there are no ski in ski out possibility, you feel you are right there in the slopes due to all the help you are offered when going to and from the slopes. The two guys who were responsible for the transportation and help with skies and poles are two really dedicated guys and we really hope to come back some time and meet you all. For us the Dolomites was a new experience. To bad we had to turn 50 before we discovered this beautiful area. Thank you for making our skiing holiday the best ever.

I spent a week at Rosa Alpina on a Fitscape holiday, and I can honestly say it was one of the best trips I've ever had. My room was spacious, luxurious and comfortable, with great views of the mountains. The food was good and the staff exceptionally helpful. The General Manager Stephanie was constantly around ensuring that guests were being well taken care of. I had a massage in the Spa, which was bliss and as for the St. Hubertus restaurant...simply the best food and service I've ever had. Faultless!

After the rigours of a hard day's skiing there's nowhere else I'd sooner rest my weary legs than this idyllic homely retreat.
If the huge comfy chairs and roaring log fires don't get you, the magnificent spa with its indoor pool, sauna and steam room surely will.
And then there's the wonderful 2 Michelin star St Herbertus restaurant and neighbouring bar and grill to savour. If you like your food, you'll love this place. St Herbertus is not cheap, but for a special treat it's simply divine. I've never tasted food like it.
The friendly Rosa staff will happily organise ski passes and ski hire and also make regular shuttle coach rides to the nearby Piz Sorega Gondola, which transports skiers up to the main Alta Badia skiing area.
Once there, you'll have a maze of bed and run ski runs to choose from, as well as a couple of nerve-shredding black runs. There are also plenty of options for lessons, although I'd say the area is more suited to intermediate skiers than beginners.
I went with a friend at the end of the ski season and we had a ball. Be warned, it's not a place for discos and all-night parties, but if you enjoy the finer things in life than this is for you. Next time I've promised to take my wife as I know she'll love it there.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back overlook the picturesque mountains and church

We spent 5 wonderful nights in the Hotel Rosa Alpina as part of our honeymoon in early September. The rooms were nicely-sized and appointed. When we were first shown our Deluxe room, we noticed we didn't have a balcony - despite it looking like most rooms did have one. We asked if we could be moved to one with a balcony and they were very happy to helpful to accommodate us with no issues. The room where we stayed was spacious, the balcony looked out on a hill of pines, and the bathroom was very large with a lovely bath, separate shower, a skylight, and our favourite feature - heated floors.. a really great touch.

The hotel's location is excellent for a hiking base... we found it very easy to catch trails direct from the hotel, take the nearby lift which takes you up to a brilliant area for hiking... and there were plenty of other hiking areas that were an easy drive away.

The biggest standout of staying here was the service - the staff were all incredibly friendly and were right there when needed for any assistance. Rooms are serviced in the morning (typically while you are at breakfast) and in the evening (typically when we'd left for dinner). There are lovely small touches like bottles of water at reception which they encourage you to take if you're headed for some hikes... some lovely chocolate and welcome juice as a greeting in your room...

We used the pool and jacuzzi for only one day but it was nice... It seemed a lovely atmosphere to put your nose in a good book - as there were very comfortable lounge chairs. The area (pool/jacuzzi/seating) did seem quite small so better to get there early.

Breakfast in the morning was exceptional - plenty of things made to order, but also fresh slides meats (such as speck, prosciuttio, etc), local yogurts, all sorts of fruits, cereals, breads, cakes.. various honeys, jams.. the list goes on!

The hotel has a pianist who plays in the evenings which was nice before dinner. The hotel's Bar & Grill was standout - I wish we had gone there more than one evening. The food was delicious and our lovely waiter offered to give us a bit of a lesson in "distillates" (grappas and other after-dinner digestives) when we said we'd like an after dinner drink but didn't necessarily want grappa. We did also go to St. Hubertus - but I would say that of the two, I would recommend the Bar & Grill.

All in all a lovely hotel - for us, it was a splurge but absolutely worth it!

Room Tip: Deluxe rooms either come with a balcony or they have no balcony but are slightly larger - for us, we...

San Cassiano, the home of this delightful hotel, is what it looks like when you take a beautiful Alpine village known for its ski lodges, melt all the snow and add a peaceful summer. My wife and I think it is heaven on earth and the perfect antidote to the hot, crowded south of Italy, from which we flew to Venice and drove. Here you will find non-commercial, small-town Euro-pleasures like breezy, mountain hiking, idyllic green pastures and local street fairs that, taken together, are the perfect answer to Milan, Verona, Naples or Venice, from which the drive is particularly tortuous though exquisitely beautiful and dotted with pine trees and cows. Rosa Alpina itself is the antithesis of a commercial establishment and better off for its home-grown hospitality and very fine, local cuisine—whether or not you take advantage of the Michelin-starred restaurant, Hubertis; we did not because we enjoyed the casual restaurant so very much. We found that a three-night stay with two full days of hiking was just right. Our room was upgraded from a double to a small junior suite that faced the street rather than a hillside stand of pines. But we found this to be advantageous since the main street is a pedestrian mall by day, very quiet and endlessly interesting. This is the premier hotel in town, rated five-stars (and deservedly so) although there are probably half-a-dozen properties within a few blocks that would serve you well if you were out to save money. Our room, at 340 Euros, was a relative bargain given that we paid three times that amount on the Amalfi coast and in Rome and found levels of cleanliness and service that rivaled the best. A well-kept secret that deserves more notoriety among Americans, who, for once on our trip, were notably absent. PS, the breakfast buffet (see photo) is spectacular and itself worth the trip, not to mention the wait-staff’s pigtails and lederhosen!

Room Tip: Street-side is just fine as it is quiet with partial mountain views. Summer is low-season so upgrade...

We stayed here for 4 fabulous nights in July with our 2 children. I can't say enough positive accolades abut this hotel. Staff is friendly and extremely helpful even from the US prior to our arrival. Rooms are nicely appointed with pretty mountain views. Indoor pool is lovely. St Hubertus is a truly exceptional experience. We also ate at the hotel's Grill room which was delicious. Try the fondue one night for the experience. Their apple strudel is delicious!

Location is great for hikes at Cinque Torri and Lagazoui. We also went biking from San Candido to Lienz, Austria - great day! Nice quiet town. Make sure you see Lago Carrezza - it may the prettiest small alpine lake you will ever see.

I don't think you will find a better breakfast anywhere. The selection was much appreciated.

Our only thought on what they can approve is the shower head. In our 2 deluxe interconnecting rooms there was a hand shower handle that was difficult to get it to stay on place when you raised it up for a shower. I think they need a proper shower head.

This was the family's favorite hotel in our 2 week trip. Truly outstanding! We will definitely return!!!
