Post Alpina - Family Mountain Chalets
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed June 24, 2013

Surrounded by Nature, this Hotel has the best position among the hundreds of slopes, hiking tracks, chair lifts and the longest summer toboggan in Italy (San Candido) to really enjoy every minute of your stay in Süd Tirol.
You can choose between hotel rooms or self contained apartments: whatever your choice is, you will never be disappointed.
If you are travelling with kids, the Post Alpina is part of the "Familien Hotels" in the region: so they know the needs of their young guests. They have also children activities every afternoon.
If you decide to eat at the Post Alpina restaurant, indulge yourself to a delicious süd-tiroler menu or just discover the yummy variety of meals available.
There is a nice swimming pool, an amazing wellness club and a gym to enjoy in sunny or rainy days.
They also organise day trips around the area and it is possible to rent bycicles (even with children seats) and skis.
If you have your own car, they have a huge underground car park.
Definitely worth a stay.

Room Tip: For a self contained apartment, ask for the "Dolce Vita Chalet": beautiful view over Mount...

Fantastic Hotel for families with children and couples. Beautiful spacious chalet-like rooms with a fireplace. Ski lessons for kids just a walk away from the hotel. Large indoor parking garage. Large ski or bike room. Great food and breakfast buffet with lots of choice.
After the kids had finished their diner, they left to go play in the kids club ( continuously supervised by a qualified person) next to the restaurant, and we enjoyed the rest of a quiet diner.
Not cheap but worth every penny!
Nice gym and pool as well...
Friendly staff
Perfect for cross country skiers and downhill skiers

The only drawback was the traffic to get there, there is only one narrow road from the highway to get to the hotels in that area.

Room Tip: The rooms near the gym and pool area in the main building do not require you to go outside to go to...

We have just spent half term staying here, and would happily recommend it and go back again.

Hotel:
A fantastic set up for people with children. We had a two bedroomed apartment within the hotel (2 bedrooms, living room, bathroom and mini kitchen area), which provided plenty of space to relax and play in, as well as the potential to self-cater at lunch time (or for the whole stay if required). Having a two year old, this made life much easier.
The room is cosy and well appointed, in good condition, and very clean. Fabulous views in all directions, and a lovely wide balcony.

We took breakfast and dinner in the hotel. The food was really excellent with a good variety, beautifully presented and very good waiting staff. The children were served promptly at all meals as a priority, and with a good range of child friendly options.

The dining area was again charming, not too big and spotlessly clean.

There is a very nice mini club that children can pop in and out of with lovely enthusiastic staff.
There is another play room with table tennis, table football, video game etc. very good for slightly older children, and an evening film in their mini cinema.

Lovely indoor-outdoor pool, and a gym (not mentioned on the hotel web site at all!), as well as beauty treatments.

Location: Right on the piste for St Elmo. A short walk to the lifts and the childrens / beginners ski area. Really convenient and low stress with little skiers in tow. The lifts were not too crowded and worked well (in peak half term week). The restaurant at the top of St Elmo was fantastic. modelled on a James Bond baddie hide out I think! Great retro look, with huge all weather bean bags on the deck outside. The food was really good and well (reasonably) priced (French ski resorts, eat your heart out). Even the bathrooms were spotless, modern and spacious- I have literally never come across anything so good up a mountain (anyone else sloshed around in sewage, water and loo roll in mountain restaurants when skiing, with no room to swing a ski pole let alone a toddler?)

Bad things: As the hotel is on the piste, you have to drive into San Candido, about 10 minutes away. To be honest this is a relative problem, as we enjoyed the skiing and hotel so much we didn't have too much cause to go elsewhere. This was a negative feature for our friends who would have liked to have a town to walk around from the hotel.
Linked into the Sella Ronda, the immediate skiing on St Elmo was not as challenging for the hard core skiers with us. Not a problem for me personally, or my children. And the Sella Ronda is out there if you are prepared to catch an odd bus between ski lifts.

Room Tip: Some rooms are in the main body of the hotel, others are located around the pool in beatiful chalets...

7 years old hotel, and it looks like they have just finished to buil it.
In a charming position, right at the beginning of sky slopes.
Warm, cozy, fabulous chalet, with fire place and jacuzzi (in the family chalet).
Extremely clean. Excelent spa treatment. If I have to find something to improve, the spa and swimmingpool are just a little bit small.
Food is absikuteky fantastic! Well cooked, well presented, excellent ingredients.
Staff is kind, polite, welcoming.

It is not cheap, but it is definitely worth it.

We will come back for sure!

The hotel is own by family, probably with long tradition. The most important issue is customer. So the whole staff is working to make you feel comfortable. This is a perfect location for skiing , biking etc. No necessity to use any transportation during your stay. If you want do drive to town – it takes few minutes do San Candido or Dobbiaco. Ideal for family with children although if you want to rest, there are areas restricted for children.

Great hotel for families with small children. Kids enjoy the kids club while parents have some time to themselves during the day or e.g. diners, so children do not have to sit thru a 4 course diner. Excellent food and a good choice of kid friendly menus. Rooms and spa area are of exceptional high standard for Europe, comparable to North American ski resorts. The location is great for cross country skiers as well as alpine skiers and mountain bikers. There are also a lot of flat trails for biking with children.

Only downside is slightly overprized use of internet in the hotel rooms and opening hours of the kids club. It closes between 11am and 2pm, which are exactly the hours you could use the baby-sitting, while skiing.
