“Makes Fawlty Towers look like the Hilton”
Reviewed March 7, 2011

I stayed here with a group and luckily we had a sense of humour otherwise the hotel could have ruined our trip. We would not have wanted more than the three days we had and would certainly never go back. It felt like more like a youth hostel than a hotel. Here are just some of our experiences:

1.Extremely rude English owner – no customer skills whatsoever. Felt like we were imposing every time we asked a question and always got an abrupt, aggressive reply
2.Bathroom was outside the bedroom – if you forget to take your bedroom key you could be stuck outside in a towel (as I experienced!)
3.Bathroom light was on a sensor which meant showering in the dark if you were not standing in the right place! Gaffa tape round the toilet seat
4. Food was terrible – bland, overcooked and poorly presented
5. No real vegetarian option. One night the choice was pork or tuna salad. When we asked what the veggie option was the reply was ‘you can have the salad without the tuna’. Not great when you have been skiing all day. (They did do a tomato pasta in the end).
6. Reception refused to call us a taxi, meaning we had to use English mobiles. When we couldn’t get a taxi they eventually agreed to take us into town in their minivan for 20 euros. However they would only take us three quarters of the way!
7. After dinner you are ushered through to the bar area where, if you are lucky, there will be someone to serve you. However, after 10pm you will get death stares until you leave the bar. We estimate they lost out on about 300 Euros from not being around to serve us a drink when we wanted one

I stayed at this hotel in Feb 2011 with a group of 21 other skiers/boarders. It's a 5 min uphill walk to ski-lift and about 15 min uphill walk into town, luckily there's a bus stop just outside. But the main thing i have to say about this hotel is the abruptness and rudeness of the owners.

My friend and I were placed into a room, just a bit larger than a shoebox, with an "ensuite" outside the room, bearing in mind we had a lot of equipment it was impractical for us to stay in for a whole week. To be fair to the owners we were moved to a larger room the next day but our new room had just one electrical socket and that was in the bathroom!

Breakfast was what you would expect but dinner was something else. Being in a large group, we would swap tables each meal time in order to be social-able, much to the dis-may of the owners who had a go at us for moving around and inconveniencing them. The food was quite often woeful with overcooked, limp and sometimes cold vegetables. (how difficult is it to cook peas and broccoli?).

The owners and staff also didn't seem to respect the privacy of their guests, they assumed that everyone had left their rooms during the day to go to the slopes but on more than one occasion we heard of and experienced staff just walking into rooms without even a courtesy knock on the door and disturbing the occupant.

I think by the end of the week they were glad to see the back of us and believe me the feeling was mutual.

This hotel is what you call a suprise!! We got up to our room to find that it was no bigger than a box, how they got a double bed in amazes me and the ensuite bathroom was outside the room which was not nice when you have just come out of the shower draped with a towel around you in the main corrider!!!
on a plus point, the owners were friendly enough and the food was different each day and quite nice. The bus stop was a 2-3 min walk away or you could walk 5 mins the the jouvenceaux lift that takes you to sportinia area. There is a ski hire shop next door as well which is handy if you need to hire stuff. it was a little out of town so you needed a taxi to take you (20e) but the irish bar and the pancake house was well worth the visit.

would i stay here again, only if it was cheap enough and there was nothing else.

  • Liked — the staff friendly and the food was nice
  • Disliked — the ensuite that comes with a twin situation
