“Great service and food!”
Reviewed September 23, 2013

We stayed at Gran Bosco with my 7yo son and my father in law in February, 2012 for a week and the only impression since that, I wish to come back again one day. And guess, what I am doing know? I am trying make a reservation for my family for the coming New Year to come back with my newbaby and wife. I am completely disagree with some reviews regarding Bosco, as it looks like that reviewers have never been there. Our room was clean and nice, Gigi performed very fast shuttle service upon phonecall. The food was just perfect and sauna was amazing. The skiing was wonderful at all the areas of Milkyway. As the bottomline I would say that we met fantastic owners who run this hotel and were really impressed by their hospitality.

Four of us booked for a late skiing holiday, and were concerned by one or two earlier reviews. We need not have worried. The rooms are comfortable, airy, spacious and warm. Anyone concerned about noisy fan heaters have only to ask owners Stefano and Erica to turn them off overnight. The shower was hot, powerful, and roomy enough for all but an all-in wrestler. The 5-course evening meals were good and plentiful. Stay in Bognor for an all-English breakfast - this is Italy, so expect a continental breakfast, with croissants, yoghurt, toasties, cereal etc - no problem. No ski-in/out, but the admirable Gigi ran us and our skis down in the minibus to the ski-lift, and back home up to 11 at night within 5 minutes of being phoned. The hotel could not operate as a ski-base without him. There is also a regular service bus to within 100m. The bar area is comfortable and well-stocked, with extremely generous measures if you are served by Erica - steady on, girl! There is a sauna (€10 each for 30 minutes)' but we never used it. The skiing was excellent in Sauze, the hotel comfortable, the staff all friendly and heloful - why would I not rate it 5*?

The advantages: the authentic style of the Alpine building, light and comfortable rooms and the shuttle bus of the hotel that can get you to the ski lifts and the town (the hotel stands aside).

The disadvantages: the principal disadvantage of the hotel is the dinner. The administration is trying to save all the possible money on the meal. There is practically no fresh products. For example, at the breakfast and buffet there is no fresh bread or hot meal. The food is only of such kind that can be served once more. And there is no surprise that everything not used today appears on the table the next day.

And even if the food is "freshly cooked" (soups or principal dish) it is made from the products of the last day. And in Italy famous for its great cuisine it's not just unpleasant but dramatically sad.

For breakfast it's possible to choose something. But with the dinner situation is much worse. We even had to miss several paid dinners during the week.

The whole pattern became worse because of inexperienced and slow waiters and administration choosing the best pieces for their relatives and friends.

The wi-fi almost doesn't work.

Had the last week staying at the gran bosco and skiing sauze and surrounding area. We booked midJanuary after reading fairly positive reviews on trip advisor. Obviously was horrified by the posts late in January which lowered our expectations somewhat.
The hotel itself has a certain charm that is hard to explain. My kids loved being able to play table tennis and table football outside where they could make as much noise as they wanted without disturbing other guests. I hope.
The rooms were fine although I know some guests complained that there rooms were too hot. The showers are a bit on the small side but powerful enough. There are no baths in the rooms which is a downer especially after skiing for the day and wanting a relax in the bath.
The food in the hotel restaurant was better than average,on the whole. Some dishes were poor but most dishes were delicious with always enough food and a good choice of wines. The serving staff were excellent and very friendly, always willing to help with any additional needs.
Breakfast was ok . No hot food except a panini maker which does get repetitive by the end of the week. There was never a mad rush which has been mentioned in other posts.
The hotel is a kilometre outside the village and is easily walkable in about 15 minutes with kids however the hotel has Gigi on the payroll and he is your personal taxi service. Nothing was too much trouble for Gigi. He runs you to the slopes in the morning picks you up after finishing skiing and takes you down to the village in the evening and picks you back up before 11pm. He is a legend and what makes the hotel and its location work perfectly well for a ski holiday.
The hotel owners were friendly with young children who help out. So if your a family considering this hotel I would say its pretty much perfect.
The bar is reasonably priced and has a nice relaxed area with a giant tv showing lots of sport.
The skiing in sauze is excellent with lots of runs suited for all abilities. We went with inghams and found all the reps very knowledgeable and helpful especially Elaine .
We would recommend the trip to montgenevre on the Friday. The skiing here is superb especially suited to intermediates.
I would definitely visit the hotel again, loved sauze and found inghams a very professional outfit.

Just returned from a week's skiing at Sauze while staying at Gran Bosco. Skiing around the Milky Way was fantastic, but not the hotel.

The rooms are OK but access to hot water is limited to certain times. However the meals were not good at all with breakfast not including a toaster, only two sandwich grills, and no eggs.

Dinner time is even worse. Same salad every evening, antipasta OK, main meal like works canteen. Desert usually either ice team or cake with cold custard.

Also plates are always laid out on table on arrival so main meal is always served on cold plates.

Xmas Eve dinner main course was appalling. The meat was processed and tasted of sausage, the potatoes were rock hard and veg was chopped carrots & peas etc a la school dinner.

On a better note, transport to and from the village was provided by free shuttle with the famous Gigi doing the driving.

Infortunately the hotel is seriously let down by some basic problems and false economies which could be easily solved if the owner had the inclination

Booked 1 week at Gran Bosco for ski holiday with my husband and 19 year old son. Hotel is charming, food was good (and plenty), rooms not massive but nice and warm, and we always had plenty of hot water. Also we had radiators so had no noisy problems with fans. Worth asking for these to be turned off at night ! Or request a room with radiators. Best thing about this hotel is Gigi !! You are given his mobile number on arrival, and have the advantage of your own personal taxi for the whole stay :) our friends in the centre of the village were quite envious!
The family who run the hotel are lovely, as were the staff in the restaurant, especially Matius who was always ready with a friendly smile :)
Boot room in the basement, but we hired my skis from Eydallin sports in the centre, and they gave me free ski & boot deposit which was great with no carrying skis back every day. Overall this hotel was great and we met some lovely people, which always makes your holiday.

I feel that reviewing this hotel will be quite difficult as there are good points and bad points to it. We travelled as a party of seven, friends and family with age ranging from 24 to 50. The hotel is a good 10-15 walk from town which isn’t a problem at all as the hotel offers any exceptional shuttle service to town and to the slopes from 9am til midnight.

Firstly on the positive side, the hotel is warm and cosy but the décor is a little bit gloomy with a very strange taste in decorations on the walls. (One of our rooms had a picture of Jesus over the bed). The rooms were clean and roomy but I do agree with a previous reviewer that the showers are exceptionally small and a bit claustrophobic.

The overriding problem we had (and all seven of us were in agreement) was with the dining arrangements and quality of the food.

Breakfast was served at 8am and was totally chaotic. There was one vending machine for coffees to serve the whole dining room and another vending machine serving water and orange juice. Unfortunately, the juice was made from a very sickly sweet syrup and wasn’t very nice at all. There were two panini presses to make cheese and ham toasties, which was great but the queues were massive and at times caused ‘panini rage’. There was a selection of cereals and bread rolls on the table (one each) which was great but the rest of the selection of melba toast etc was vacuum packed and a bit dry and tasteless.

Dinner was served at 7.30pm – no sooner, no later. There was a tureen of soup on a table at one end of the dining room, which once again caused huge queues. Once again there was one bread roll per person and the a couple of sets of condiments on the same table so you had to take your soup to the table, taste it and then go back for salt and pepper if you needed it. On most days by the time we got our soup to the table, the waitress brought our starter which meant a bowl of soup and a starter at the same time. The starters were a strange variety of things, which were mostly awful but provided some entertainment trying to guess what it actually was. The pasta dishes which came next (very quickly even before you had put your knife and fork down) were possibly the worst pasta we have tasted. The plates were cold and the end of the week most of us had just decided not to even try it as it was embarrassing to send back plates with so much on them. Main courses were a choice of three each of us chosing something different each night but again there wasn’t one dish all week that was nice. Desserts were panna cota type packet mix apart from one day when it was ice cream. (I sound like I am very hard to please but I am not at all, I am happy to try anything and don’t have cordon bleu tastes or expect Jamie Oliver standards). The first couple of days we just laughed off the quality and lack of warmth (even likening it to bush tucker trials) but by the Thursday we all decided that enough was enough and we went out to eat.

I can’t apologise for the negative comments about the food I am just giving my personal opinion and that of my family/friends. During our week there was a large coach party from Eastern Europe which may have added an extra strain to their resources but all I can say is the food was mostly inedible and I couldn't recommend this hotel at all, purely due to the quality of the food. I just wish we had invited the Inghams rep to dinner to sample it.
