“Excellent value and Quality Gran Baita”
Reviewed March 1, 2013

Would just like to thank Paulo and all his staff for a very enjoyable holiday. This was our second visit to the hotel and was just as good the second time around. It is very clean ,comfortable warm, very welcoming and food it excellent , four course meal every meal night with enough choice to always like something.Unfortunatley I had an accident on the slopes and ended up in a leg brace and crutches (luckily at the end of the holiday) our Crystal rep Jade and Paulo were fantastic getting me organised to go home, Paulo very kindly got up at 5.00 am in the morning to give me a lift down the village to the coaches to save me a very long slow hobble. The hotel and staff are hidden gems of Sauze D'Oulx

We loved our week here. The staff were so friendly, helpful and gave us a great service.
The food here was yummy home cooked Italian food, you will not go hungry. Every night you got a choice of 3 for each course, we all found one easily every night.
The hotel location is good too, as near to the centre without all the noise. Being in the town centre is great, esp as we went a group of 8 of us.
We often had drinks at one of the bars for happy before returning to hotel for dinner.
The beds are not the best but we were so tired every night after skiing we didn't notice too much.

We have just returned form a weeks skiing, we booked through Crystal and stayed at the Gran Baita Hotel. There was 6 in our party 4 adults and 2 teenagers with mixed skiing abilities, the hotel was in a good location with lovely views. We were on the top floor which had a sloping ceiling, we only hit our heads a few times. After reading a few reviews I was a bit worried, yes the rooms could do with updating but it all adds to the quaint feeling of the hotel in my opinion. You only sleep and shower in the rooms anyway, we had read that there was a lack of electrical points in the rooms so we took a plug extension bar with us. The hotel has free WIFI which was handy for hubby to catch up on work emails and keeping the kids entertained on ipads/itouch.

The staff bend over backwards to make sure you have everything you need, they are all friendly and helpful. The bar area has lovely big sofa's in front of a log fire, there are lots of games to keep everyone entertained and the 6 nations games were on in the evening. Food was fantastic and lots of it, if there was something you didn't like staff were more than happy to offer something else. Yes as people had said before there was a lot of pork and it became a running joke but there was also other choices all of which were lovely. The rooms were cleaned everyday and fresh towels when needed, we didn't have a brown water issues but others in our group seemed to but it wasn't an issue.

Sauze itself is a lovely resort lots of nice bars and shops, a bit hilly in places but we all used the buses which do not run on time but we were a relaxed group so didn't let it spoil things, skiing its self was more geared up for experienced skiers but I was more than happy going down the blues although some were very flat and more like cross country skiing. Some of our group used the storage at Sportina for the ski's as carrying then up and down hills was a bit of a pain.
We would recommend the Nacho's at Ghost bar and Karaoke at Paddy's, we hoped to get out more but ended up spending most nights at the hotel bar.

All in all we had a great holiday and Jade our Crystal rep has to be the best rep we have had ever, she was always on hand and easily found. We meet some lovely families and the whole experience was a positive one for us.

spent 17th -24th february2013 at this hotel, family ski trip. Staff very friendly and any problems were rectified within minutes of informing them. All spoke good english. We had rooms on top floor(4th) sloping ceilings made room seem small but soon got used to this, did not spend long in room as we were there to ski
Food was excellent 4 course meal every evening,
Good location short walk to ski bus, get 2nd one about 0910 hrs as it s not so crowded, but then it was half term week.
would use this hotel again,owner/manager Paulo could not do enough to make our stay enjoyable this attitude was reflected by his staff.

We have just returned from a week skiing in Sauze D'oulz and stayed at the Gran Baita. This is our third time in the resort and this hotel was the best by far. Location was great and very quiet. Our rooms were the larger ones and we had a jacuzzi bath to ease tired legs at the end of the day and a small balcony where drinks were taken as the sun set behind the mountains. We didn't use the ski storage as we preferred to pay 30 euros and keep skis and boots by the clothes chairlift. Beware the storage the rep sells you is at Sportinia and not as handy ! We preferred to save our legs the hill climb each morning carrying our gear.

The food at the hotel has been discussed in great detail here. It is plentiful and you would never starve. However, like others, we had pork most days in one form or other and the sauce was identical each time. There was a group joke as to what it looked like ! The special meal on gala night was a major disappointment after much hype, keeping the courses secret, but was less Italian than anything you might eat out. But really, we had a laugh about it, and were always full at the end of both breakfast and dinner. You have to pay for drinks which are totalled at the end of the week, which is a pain when you are in a large group, and as you are only given the total there is no way to check it ! No water is offered on the tables either ! It would also have been appreciated if tea or coffee had been available without chage at the end of the meal.

The staff at this hotel are really friendly and so very helpful. They are always smiling and keen to please.

The hotel is dated but extremely clean and comfortable. Towels can be changed as often as you like, water is hot and the bath and showers were great. Just have to get used to the brownish alpine water.

As other reviews have point out the lack of electric points make charging fun !

Great free wifi in the bar area and comfortable sofas and tables around a log fire.

We would all go back in an instant. It was good value and a fab base from which to explore the Milky Way ski area.

Thanks also to Crystal reps, we had Jade and she was very organised and kept us all well informed.

This was an excellent hotel. We stayed here the first week of the ski season 2013. Absolutely splendid location, wonderful staff, varied menu, wide selection of board games, ski storage at the front door, warmth and cleanliness. Loved the old fashioned charm it offered. Loved the fire in the grate in the lounge bar every evening. The only negative aspect was the lack of electrical points. There was one power point in the bedroom which was for the TV and one in the bathroom for the hairdryer. Not really a problem for me but not up to scratch for the two lads sharing with the laptop, the couple of phones, the kettle, the camera etc. Not adequate they said! The rooms were basic and the four person room was massive. Good price, cheap and cheerful but wouldn't be classsified as low budget. Would probably book again and bring an adaptor. Sauze is a great resort.

Room Tip: Balconies to the front.

I have just returned from a fantastic skiing holiday booked through Crystal. I would agree with the review from the Mackay Family although it would seem that they stayed in a better room than my family. The best features of this hotel are the excellent location - quiet but very central, the friendly and helpful staff and owner, the comfortable lounge with fire and bar and the amount and quality of the food - not fantastic, but plentiful and apart from 3 nights eating veal (or not in my case) offered a good choice.
We were given 2 rooms on the ground floor next to the lounge. The rooms are clean, warm but very old fashioned and the beds and pillows were so hard and uncomfortable. The bathrooms have recently been refurbished and were very nice, modern and there was plenty of hot water. Unfortunately, apart from all the positives of this hotel, the poor quality of the bedrooms really spoilt my stay and for this reason I would not stay here again.
On a positive note, the Crystal rep gave excellent service and helped beg and borrow clothes when my daughters suitcase was lost by the airline until day 4 of the holiday.

Room Tip: Try and get a higher room, the rooms to the front suffer from noise due to early deliveries so bring...
