Stayed for 5 nights with the family for a skiing holiday. The chalet is on the mountain, by the Clotes lift but we were phoned during the taxi journey to coordinate our arrival where we were met by the friendly Roberto, at the ski hire shop, and transferred by snowmobile to the beautiful hotel. We were given a very warm welcome by Manageress Ciara and (another) Roberto, who is like a Maitre D', Restaurant Manager and authority of all things food, kept the kitchen open to make us lunch. Although I can see the obvious attraction for Il Capricorno as a romantic retreat, the staff, especially Roberto, were absolutely great with our kids aged 6 and 4, making them really welcome with a designated child menu. The food here is terrific and I strongly recommend choosing the Chef's Gourmet Menu and the accompanying wine flight. The chef is incredibly inventive and everything that come out of his kitchen is top notch and always innovative. Roberto explains each dish and wine with a knowledge and enthusiasm that you rarely see anywhere in the world, even in restaurants of this level. We had first floor rooms, taking the adjacent room to give us a very spacial suite. The cleanliness was first class and the showers were always very hot and powerful. This was a real quality find and we will definitely go back. From the charming owners right through the staff, they are all trying to make this a very special place, and from our experience, they are certainly hitting the mark.

For a romantic weekend get-away this is the best place ever. Traditional with burning fires, intimate atmosphere, amazing food, friendly service and hidden in the mountains, yet right on the ski-slopes. The hotel receptionist Chiara called twice in advance to make sure taxi transportation from Turin airport and connecting snowscooter from Sauze went flawlessly. We arrived at midnight to a warm welcome by the Maitre D' and were shown to newly refurbished room with delicate snacks awaiting us. We woke up to spectacular views from the breakfast/dining room and had breakfast with freshly home baked bread and pastries, all presented with the utmost care and high quality. Dinner at the hotel's Restaurant was equally rewarding. We had no desire to go into town the second night as the food is Michelin star quality for a very reasonable price. The bathrooms are well equiped but on the small side, the old wooden structure not soundproof

Room tip: ask for room with mountain view. It is worth it!

The food here is very good indeed, especially the pasta.
However where the hotel is let down is by the staff: we arrived by taxi in Sauze ( arranged through the hotel ) at 2-00pm to be told they could take our bags to the hotel but not us until 5-30pm. Apparently the police will not let people up on skidoos. Fine if we had been prewarned but very annoying to have to wait in a bar for three and half hours.
The rooms on the mountain can be very noisy at night due to the piste bashers. Our room over the kitchen was very noisy from 7.15am.
The day before our departure we checked with reception that our bags would go down in the afternoon and we would take the chair lift down. At 7-45 am we were phoned and told our bags must be ready by 8-00am to go down the mountain. It was the receptionist's day off and the owner was not available, the waitress on reception was insistent. We finally got our bags down at 8-15am they did not go until 9-15. We skied the morning and came back for lunch in the outside bar where the skidoo driver was busy serving lunch.....enough said.

Could be really lovely with some staff training.

Great small place located practically on the slopes. Romantic, old-style chalet with professional and friendly staff. Food was perfect - in both quality and quantity. Note that access to the village without skis is limited; only by snowscooter when lifts are not operating. But that is a minor handicap, because there is no need to go anywhere...

As a group of 4 close friends, we decided to splash out for a special ski get-away and chose the Chalet II Capricorno Hotel. The rooms were clean, comfortable and cosy. Woke up to amazing views of the sun rising on the mountains and enjoyed beautiful sunsets - ask for a room with balcony to make the most of the views. Ski in and ski out was a real luxury. You can't stroll into town as you are up on the mountain - the skidoo service into town and back was a very welcome service - runs before 9am and after 5pm as uses a side piste run. Breakfast was superb with a great bread and pastry platter, egg dishes and other extras, all presented with flair. We had dinner at the hotel's Naskira Restaurant on 2 evenings out of the 3 nights we stayed. Food was top notch with top notch prices to match, but you will remember those meals for a long time. Good vegetarian options. Great lounge with character to relax in.
Now onto those little service extras that make all the difference in delivering a 4 star experience:
Better communication on arrival logistics and luggage transfers would have been helpful when we booked. We did let Louisa know this issue, a wonderful lady who is a member of the owner family. Louisa took the feedback with grace, apologised with feeling and has let her head staff know, so we look forward to improvement there. Also we found one member of the restaurant staff particularly unfriendly, with an air of arrogance so better consistency of staff would be essential to give guests a 4 star service experience to match the charm of the surroundings.

Room tip: The rooms that face the mountain have great views but be prepared for late evening/late night noise as skidoo service runs until after 10pm and piste-bashers are out around 11.30pm.
