Mirko, Juzie, Erika, Renato and Johnny were amazing hosts.
An incredibly friendly family who will do everything they can to make you feel at home.
Mirko collected us from outside Chalet Valeret (?) at 5.05pm (top of "Via Clotes". If travelling via Oulx - Get a cab as the €1.50 bus drops you miles away) - this is the earliest the Skidoo can come down the mountain, and with our ski bags in tow we headed to Ciao Pais whilst appreciating the amazing sunset en route. (If you arrive early - I suggest you stay in town before heading up late in the afternoon, as there's no restaurant or bar near the meeting point)
We were shown to our room which was a suite as requested. (Room 12 - No view but still brilliant)
The whole hotel has showers only. So no rooms with baths. The suite had a steam and power shower with massage jets and a seat. Great shower.
The room was massive with Sky Satellite TV with 100's of channels incl English channels and a 32" Samsung tellie and two single sofas.
Wifi in the hotel is excellent and free!
MUST have Vin Brulee (Their mulled wine) - €4 and amazing!
The food - INCREDIBLE!
With the half board package we we usually given the Chef's starter. Which could have been cold meats, or grilled cheese or whatever. It was FANTASTIC.
Then Primi course was from the menu. Carbonara, Truffle Pasta, Game pasta just a few of the choices. FANTASTIC.
Then secondi - Wild Boar steak - HUGE and so tasty, Pork shank, and plenty of other fantastically prepared dishes. Each perfectly tasty. One evening we were offered a 1kg rib eye steak to share between 2. Incl in the half board price.
Pudding was creme brulee, various cakes but we were usually completely stuffed by then.
Basically we were told by every seasonnaire we met - Ciao Pais food is the best in Sauze d' Oulx and I have to say... We didn't want to try anywhere else. Couldn't fault it. And the service throughout was amazing. Chris the chef was brilliant.
The wine list - superb choice and brilliantly priced. Barberesca - we were recommended a €20 bottle by Mirko - And it was cracking!!!!!! We are not wine snobs but they have wines going upwards of €200.
Breakfast choice was cooked or continental with fruit, cereal, etc. Have the freshly squeezed orange juice and their Italian coffee, amazing!!! Watch out for Micha the cat. :) who is only allowed to visit in the mornings and loves yoghurt, preferably licked off your finger.
Ciao Pais is hidden away on the red run 2000. You literally pop your skis on and you're on the piste and in Sauze d'Oulx in 3 minutes if you're a confident skier, 10 if not.
OK so what would I change? The bar is small. 4 bar stools and one table. It would be brilliant if this could be made bigger. NOTHING ELSE!!!
If we ever wanted to go into town, Mirko kindly took us on the skidoo and picked us up.
These guys really were very hospitable and nothing was too much trouble.
I cannot praise Ciao Pais enough and we will DEFINITELY be returning.
