“A little piece of heaven”
Reviewed March 20, 2014

We have stayed at the Villa Americana Park Hotel for two years in a row now.
The service is friendly and helpful, they make you feel like part of the family. Alessandra and the team are very accomodating and nothing is too much trouble for them.

The town itself is very quaint and hotel is central. We used the hotel as a base to visit the Tremiti Islands and the Gargano.
The food was great and most importantly they served great coffee!
We loved it so much we are taking the rest of the family back in May this year! I can't wait!!

This hotel was booked after much deliberation for a family holiday to our fathers hometown. It had been a turbulent year with the family enduring some major health problems and therefore we wanted to take this summer to really enjoy time together.

The hotel was chosen for its facilities, location to the town and came well recommended.....wow what a disappointment. It was geared up only the Italian market and upon arrival had trouble finding parking space, which continued everyday of our 2 week stay. At check we were advised that to use the swimming pool we would have to pay extra per person per day!!!! on top of that we ad to wear head caps and they charged us for those as well.

I had requested a low floor room as my sister is unable to breath easy due to lung cancer, and even though I know requests cannot be guaranteed I was not expecting to be placed in a separate annex at the back of the hotel with a hilly incline!!!!! Had this been advised then I would not have chosen this hotel.

The rooms were clean as were the public spaces, however upon use of the bathrooms, we found a shower curtain that was mouldy past mid-way, a shower tray that leaked, a shower hook that didn't work and air conditioning that only had one setting!!!! so having a shower after a day at the beach or pool became an issue. No-one fixed any items after advising reception. On several days we had no water and when we did it there was no hot water, so cold showers it was!!!

As I mentioned the car parking situation was poor from the very start and continued every day for 2 weeks. There were limited spaces and everyone just parked where they wished and how they wished. It was basically a free for all.

As for the breakfast this was the icing on the cake really. Every morning it was the same, there was very limited variety and in a country famed for its food and coffee this was a very poor attempt. There was tinned fruit (not sure why when the region is famous for its fresh fruit), plane brioche every day with both jam and nutella. Stale cereal was not an option worth considering after the first attempt. Oh and sometimes some variety of jam tarts or cake, not sure what healthy lifestyle they live but cake for breakfast. Oh and any form of juice or coffee was from a machine that we were lucky to get coffee or juice from, that it when there were plastic cups and mugs for us to actually use. The table were always dirty and service was beyond slow..... Needless to say we did not have dinner there so cannot comment on this.

The shocker was the bill at 1,800 euros for b&b and nothing else, this is really not value for money in any sense. In fact I feel as if I have been ripped off and would stay again or recommend to anyone.

The only good side was the friendly reception staff and the location to the town centre.

Room Tip: ask for main block.

VillAmericana, Responsabile reception at Villa Americana Park Hotel, responded to this review, June 17, 2014
I felt really sad to read this review, as we thought that everything went ok during your families stay: you never came at the reception to complain about a thing and looked happy and very kind people!
What a disappointment to read all this!!!
Could you explain me then the reason why you complained after the stay with a review?! Why not to come to us, the "friendly staff", asking for explanations? We definitely could help you.
Some more questions:
1) HOW CAN THE PRICE BE A SHOCK FOR YOU IF YOU BOOKED KNOWING THE PRICE AND SERVICES IN ADVANCE?? You already knew HOW MUCH you would have paid (August is high season in southern Italy), rather than CONDITIONS AND INCLUDED SERVICES. Why didn’t you chose a different hotel at a lower price?
2) On the booking page you can read that Classic Rooms are in a detached building with no lift; why not to book for your sister then a comfortable Superior room in the main building with lift instead? We gave you the Classic Room at the lowest floor as you requested, and we also got astonished at your arrival when you told us that she struggled to breath; we couldn’t understand why you chose a Classic room. We couldn’t even change room for you as the hotel was fully booked. :(
3) The swimming pool was not included in the price and this condition was clear on the booking page as well!!! Why blaming us when it was you who didn’t read carefully everything about the service you booked? We also made a special discount (50%) just for you for this service.
4) “The hotel was chosen for its facilities and location” you wrote. Well, Villa Americana is THE ONLY HOTEL WITH PARKING IN THE CITY CENTER!! There is a free parking for each room, but it's not reserved, and when the guests go out they just be patient and find a new park-car once the’ll be back in the hotel; anyway we’re always available to help them to find a new one. If you didn’t want to look for a parking every time you could ask for a reserved place in the garage as extra service.
5) I remember you told us something needed to be fixed in the shower and we sent the mantainance staff in the room; if he didn’t, why didn’t you come back to tell you were keeping having problem? How can I know it otherwise?
6) The most of hotel use automatic machines for breakfast; this is very common. Which slow service are you talking about if it was a buffet breakfast (not served)?? What about croissant? If they would have chocolate, jam or cream already inside, some guests would complain because they didn’t like one of the taste!! So we decided to give the empty one as everyone can put inside the flavour they prefer. What’s wrong with it? Some people will never be satisfied. Never!! We just can do our best to satisfy the most of them. For this 2014 we’ll try to improve breakfast quality. What we can’t do is trying to satisfy demanding people who expect services they didn’t book for.
I’m sorry if we couldn’t help you to enjoy your holiday with our service, this is very frustrating for us, especially when everything comes out from misunderstanding.
I hope you all are well and I wish you a beautiful holiday.
Alessandra

My purpose for visiting Rodi Garganico was to show my family the town of our ancestors. My choice of residence while visiting the town was the "Villa Americana Park Hotel". Perhaps I was a bit biased in my direction, since I am an American from California. I couldn't have made a better choice!
We were received by everyone with open arms. They all spoke English.
The rooms were great with air conditioning, Wi-Fi, and the panoramic view of the long sandy beaches facing the Adriatic sea. My son and daughter, and their kids enjoyed the beach and the pool on the premises of the hotel. For my self, being a bird watcher, I ventured in to the groves of oranges, lemons, and olive trees surrounding the hotel. My mission was to hopefully spot the European Gold Finch. It was their breeding season, and on one occasion I had the pleasure to observe a nest full of chicks being fed by their parents.
The food at the hotel's restaurant was excellent. My family wishes to come back and stay longer.

We’ve been to Villa Americana only for 4 days, but we would have happily stayed more!
The location is great and very central. There is also a car park.
There is a nice swimming pool with sun loungers, but if you prefer the beach, the hotel has its private one, with plenty of loungers and a bar. And there is a very comfortable navetta bus service from the hotel all day.
The room was nice and clean, there was plenty of nice food (buffet and a la cart), and the staff is absolutely amazing! Everyone is really friendly and make you feel like at home! Thanks to all the waiters that amused us at meals times, thanks to the bar staff that made gorgeous cocktails, and thank you to the Alessandra and Agata who are really warm-hearted and give a very personal service.
