Hi ! I have recently been in Riva for a conference (May/2012) and stayed in Villa Maria for about a week ! Is located at only a 3-5 minute walk for Riva's autostazione, and a 10 minute walk to the lake. Still regarding it's location, it is close to many restaurants, and supermarket. The hotel is definitely clean (better than many hotels I've been in Milan) and the breakfast is delicious ! The room was very comfortable (nice bed) and the bathroom very clean and well maintained.

For business and family trips Villa Maria is the most recommended place (in my opinion) !

Cheers !

Hotel is now completely made new, it looks like on the photos in the internet. It is nicely decorated in a modern but cozy way. Free parking in the front of the hotel, a ten minute walk to the historic center. The bedroom was also very nice and completely new with a very comfy bed. The bathroom is modern as well. Room cleaning every day was great, everything was spotlessly clean and fresh. The breakfast with a superb cappuccino, cornetto, cereals, bread, toast, fresh fruit, yoghurt had everything I want.
Marco is a great host, always friendly, helpful and so nice.
The street in front might appear a little noisy. Ask for a room to the side. With A/C on and the window shut, you don't hear a thing. In the night it gets quiet, in the morning about 6.30 am it slowly gets noisier. But you can help yourself and this is the only con I could find.
So, it is a lovely place to stay, in a very good location (near center) so you don't have to take the car. You can also start hiking right away from the hotel. At least, Marco is a great host, we felt very welcomed and quite like home. So come here, when you want to visit this lovely town Riva del Garda! I highly recommend Villa Maria!

This family owned hotel is an excellent choice for families and small groups. It is situated a few steps from centre of Riva del Garda and a few more from lake. It has a very nice rooms which are spacious and VERY CLEAN. Breakfast is tasty and various. Owners are very polite and friendly.
The only "bad" thing is that there is no WI-FI in rooms but at the restaurant only.

We stayed at the hotel Villa Maria for three nights in June 2011. The room was very nice, modern furniture, black and white colours, cool led lights. The bathroom was spacious and very clean, everything was like state of the art. Safety box was so big that I could put my laptop there and we still got a lot of space left for other stuff as well. There was also a fridge in the room, so we could buy something for the evening meal and enjoy that in our own terrace with magnificent mountain view. The service was excellent, if you want to hire a bike or have an own bike you can keep it in the hotel's garage.

The bedroom was adequate with an en-suite bathroom. I did find the mattress hard as stone and the pillows (one for each side) this as cardboard. The owner, however, was kind enough to supply two extra pillows on our request.

Parking, although free, is tight if more then 8 cars. The terrace on 2nd floor is not quite as advertised. One has a spectacular view of the mountain which is illuminated at night.
Breakfast was basic and presented in a no frills manner. Cold meats, cheese and yogurts were not (as required by gastro regulations) kept on ice. The AC in the breakfast room was either broken or switched off. Without a lift, dragging heavy luggage to the second floor was quite a DRACONIAN TASK FOR SOMEONE WITH BACK PROBLEMS. On the day of departure, the staircase was soiled by one of the dogs "staying" at the hotel. An unpleasant sight and unacceptable!! Vacuum cleaner noise at 07:30 AM!
On the whole, although quite reasonable priced, I doubt whether I'd stay again.

We stayed at the Villa Maria for 5 days in May-June 2011. We were very pleased with the hotel. It is located a bit off town center, but quite close, a 10 min. walk will get you to Piazza Cavour. The decor and furniture are minimalistic, most surfaces painted bright white and few, well placed, adornments. The effect is modern, clean and uncluttered. I liked it.
Our room was good. Also white and very clean. I cannot say it was big, but I have stayed in smaller rooms in Italy. The bathroom was comparatively big, with no problems at all. The street where the hotel is located doesn't seem to have a lot of traffic, so we had no problems with noise at night.
Breakfast choices were somewhat limited, at least compared with other hotels, but good enough, and the manager prepared us cappuccinos every morning, in a real espresso machine (we were in Italy, after all).
The manager was very kind and helpful at all times. I would definitely stay there again.

We stayed at the Villa Maria Hotel Garni for 7 nights in June 2011 based on the reviews on TripAdvisor and the hotel exceeded our expectations.

The hotel is in a quiet residential area which is easy to find if travelling by car and the free parking is a bonus, although it is tight for space if a lot of large cars arrive as happened when we got there. It is an easy walk to the old town and will take 10 minutes at an easy pace. We personally preferred this location to the other end of Riva, where a lot of the hotels are located, as it was much easier to access the old town where the majority of restaurants are located.

We had asked for a room with a balcony and we received room 107, which was to the south facing side of the hotel, with a view to the mountains and the balcony was more like a small patio with a table and 2 chairs and a soft artificial grass surface. The room was very modern and clean and had a fridge, aircon, TV, safe and an excellent shower. Towels were changed daily and the bed was changed at least once in our 7 nights. WiFi was available in the room as well as in the breakfast room and it was reliable and fast.
The breakfast was ample with a selection of juices, cereals, breads meats and cheeses. Good tea and coffee are served and we found it very acceptable.

Marco and Francesca are very nice and have an excellent facility at a great price and we would recommend this hotel. One thing to note is that some websites show older pictures of the hotel before its modernisation, and I think their own website (www.garnimaria.com) gives the best views.

Room Tip: Room # 107 has great balcony
