i had to write this review to let the National Holidays know what a great job they did.

we went on the 9 day trip to Riva Del Garda and really enjoyed it, what great value for money
went on the coach which took 2 days seeing some really good scenery through France and the Alps which you would never get to experience flying.
got to the hotel Virgilio and felt at home right away, good staff, good food, Air conditioned room with a balcony and even free wireless THAT WORKED, even the barman smiled serving us the all inclusive drinks.
we also met many like minded people on the coach and continued enjoying their company throughout the holiday especially those down the back of the coach.
trips to Venice, Verona, Dolomite Mountains and Sirmione made it a delight and the weather held up for us into the 30s
i would highly recommend this to anyone thinking of going with one stipulation the coach trip is very long, but you do see some incredible sights.

Happy Holidays

Room Tip: good views both front and back.

we have just returned from a trip to riva del garda with national holidays, our drivers terry and mark are both really great blokes very funny cheerful and informative! there is no getting away from the fact the journey is long but the scenery is out of this world! we used the campanile on the way out, basic but clean! the virgilio was very good, the staff always friendly and polite, other people that have commented on kevin,s attitude is unfounded he was a good guy! we would return gain. on our return we stayed over in a best western hotel in metz, very stylish boutique style hotel! well done national for choosing that hotel. hope this helps with your choice on this holiday. beware swollen ankles though!!!!!!!!!!!!

As usual i again stayed at the Virgilio arriving to a very Warm Welcome from the Virgilio family.
They do so much to make your visit such a pleasure that you forget that you are on work there !!!
Each one of them remember your choices etc. Still they ask for your ideas on any improvements required.
I will always stay here no amount of temptation will change it !!
Good Luck to Hotel Virgilio & the Virgilio Family.
Ofcourse to the many more satisfied Guests that will visit them !!!!

just returned from lake Garda and the hotel Virgilio with national holiday the best 9 days holiday we have spent in along time special mention Richard & Glen our drivers whose customer service standards are first class there was not a day whet by they did not check if every thing was ok and making us laugh .the hotel it self is a family run and it runs like clock work every one is so helpful and nothing is to much trouble . ROOM 107 over looking the mountains bright clean well appointed . got the sun all afternoon on our balcony DINNER yes there were 4 choice of lettuce but also beetroot tomato's onion's grated carrot cucumber and at least 10 different types of balsamic and olive oils to make any combination of dressings then STARTERS a choice of 3 every night all ways well presented from home made soup to pasta and meat dishes then MAIN COURSE from steak to fresh sea trout and plenty of it DESSERT if you did not like just had to ask for ice cream or sorbet .the gala night was very good with good Italian fare the slow cooked pork carved in front of you was melt in the mouth.the free bar beer wine soft drinks tea ,coffee Kevin always on hand to serve you and the odd prank and joke thrown in
the BREAKFAST at types of bread fruit bread flans pastries fresh fruit peach's oranges apples plums cherry's bananas grape fruit try the blood orange juice red and sweet .jams preserves cheeses cold ham hot egg omelette a very good start to the day if you want any snacks for during the day the coop supermarket is right behind the hotel though the big gates the don't speak much English but you can see every thing you need as its just in a different name .
the walk to the lake is a nice just take your time and enjoy the gardens of the other hotels on the way .so over all a great holiday making plenty of new friends with a great group of people a really good time will be back next year and a little tip learn a few little Italian phases it helps a lot and they love it when you try to speak Italian like ordering at the bar and please and thank you hello good bye etc. so until next time ARRIVADERCI

We arrived at the hotel after an exhausting 2 day journey by coach which was hindered by the uncaring and unhelpful NH drivers. The bedroom was ok but we had ants in the bathroom and the air con worked. The hotel itself was at least a good half an hours walk to the centre of Riva Del Garda - so I would suggest you pack your walking shoes. The food in the hotel was rather unappealing and unappetising. You would have been feeling empty if you did not fill up on bread for the evening meal. The salad was mainly 4 different letteces - very poor. They charged you 1 euro 50 for a bottle of water which you got from the local coop for 35 cents. The free bar did not start until after your meal and they were very funny about that as well. I was expecting real Italian food but got their version of English Italian. The pasta was tasteless and the main course again was very disappointing with minute portions. There was also no choice of dessert so if you did not like what they did then it was hard luck. I did not find the family over friendly. I would not recommend this hotel as it was too far away from the town and the food and accommodation was nothing to write home about.

Room Tip: We were in room 111 which was quiet and the room was not a bad size. It did have ants in the bathroo...

My partner and I have just returned from a six-night stay as part of a National Holidays trip. Our room contained a double bed which was comfortable, small-ish wardrobe, dressing table and very few drawers. Our balcony gave us a view of the Dolomites and had two chairs - one being a recliner. It was acceptable but nothing special. There were no chairs in the room itself. The bathroom was ok, with a shower and no bath. It was not a room you may not easily spend a great deal of time in as it is only really a functional bedroom. The lift is very, very small and queues on arrival were horrendous; you could only get two people and their cases in at a time.
The food was acceptable. It seemed to me to be more "Anglicised" Italian, rather than the "real" Italian food I think many of us expected. Choice was minimal, with no choice at all for dessert. It was served briskly and efficiently with an attitude which, for me, lacked warmth and friendliness. I never got a sense of being welcome as such. It was more a case of getting us fed as quickly as possible with little or no conversation or interaction. Breakfast was the usual buffet-style Continental affair; coissants, bread, cheese, meats, fruit, pastries, juices and hot drinks. It was fresh and enjoyable - although seeing the unused fruit recycled into the evening's dessert was a little off-putting! Veg, too, was recyled for the following night's meal. "Good housekeeping", according to an approving member of our table!
There were two pools - a large one and a kiddies' one - and tables/chairs and loungers. The ambience outside was pleasant and relaxing.
There is limited wi-fi - limited in terms of accessability - and it's free. The bar is well-stocked and bartender/waiter Kevin is always on hand with a smile and a dollop of mischief.
All in all, our experience of this hotel was pleasant. I wouldn't rave about it, but nor would I condemn it. It gave us what we paid for - nothing more and nothing less.

Room Tip: Check with the hotel if you have a wheelchair. Italy is generally not a disabled-friendly place and...

I' ve just stayed here for four nights with my wife as part of a National Holidays break and I can only speak as we both found. The Virgilio is a lovely family run hotel with a great family atmosphere, nice big rooms and good food with lots of variety. The hotel is equipped with free and fairly quick wifi and all in all we were made to feel welcome and relaxed during our stay. If I had one bad thing to say it would be that the town is a good twenty to thirty minutes walk away but you can't have it all. To sum up, I would stay again without question. Recommended.
