Beautiful pool setting. Lovely staff. Half board varied and tasty. Entertainment very dated but if you fancy a boogie with the oldies to the oldies then perfect! Bit of a walk into town but the lake side promenade is wonderful.

Just spent a week in this lovely family run hotel. It's 4 star and very efficiently run. Food is appetising - we had 3 gala dinners while we were there (and an after dinner free cocktail or wine)! It's a very large hotel so quite busy but there's space to chill out and a great bar serving a range of cocktails. Live music a bit dated. Nice to see the Manager coming around during the meal to make sure is well. Staff are helpful and rooms are comfortable with balcony - not all views are that great but it is only a five minute walk to the lakeside from where you can walk into Riva - lovely stroll that takes 20 minutes). We thoroughly enjoyed our stay

We stayed at the hotel as a base for a tour of Lake Garda, Venice & Verona with Riviera
Travel.
The hotel is located on the outskirts of Riva, approximately 20/25 minutes walk into the
centre of Riva del Garda.
The hotel is located a few minutes walk from the main road, thus it is nice and quite.
The rooms are an adequate size, there is plenty of wardrobe and drawer space for your
clothes, the bathroom is quite small but has everything you need including a very good
shower and complementary toiletries, We had a small balcony overlooking the town and the
mountains. Depending on the room, some seemed to be a bit larger with a lake view and
possibly with tea and coffee making facilities, ours unfortunately did not have either.
They have a fairly good sized outside swimming pool with plenty of sun lounges, as well as
a smaller indoor pool.
As we were in a tour group we had a set menu for dinner with a choice of three starters,
four mains and four desserts which you chose at breakfast time, these were written in
Italian ,German and English, sometimes the translation got a little lost in English so you
may not get quite what you think you ordered. But on the whole the choice was very good
and the dishes we had were very well presented and very tasty. There was always freshly
prepared soup and a salad buffet available for you to help yourself. Also their house
wine was very nice and good value for money.
The hotel also offers free wi fi and they have 3 computers close to reception that can be
used to access the internet, you just ask at reception for a password.

Room Tip: check with hotel direct for lake view rooms and which have tea/coffee makers

My husband and I stayed at the Savoy Palace Hotel in Riva del Garda from 12 - 26 Sept 2012.

Positives:
Excellent staff - probably the best customer service we have ever experienced in a hotel (or anywhere else for that matter). Everyone was so friendly and welcoming. In particular, I would like to mention our waitress, Gina, who had a permanent smile on her face, and the Head Waiter. It was also a pleasure to see Mr Tonelli at the hotel so often, almost every day in fact. He is obviously very proud of his hotel and this is reflected in the calibre of all the staff, from the receptionists to the cleaners to the bar staff. Nothing was too much trouble for anyone.
Food - the breakfast buffet was extensive and varied (although the hot choices didn’t look quite as appetising as the cold selection); free afternoon tea/coffee and cakes was an unexpected delight and, as for the evening meal, I don't think we have ever eaten as well in a hotel before. It made a very pleasant change from the usual ' free for all' buffet for a waiter-served 3-course meal to follow the self-service first course of salad, soup and/or savoury pastries. The second course consisted of a choice of delicious pasta or risotto dishes (there were different meals on offer every night), followed by a meat, fish or vegetarian option and, finally, an array of fabulous desserts – and all of this accompanied by complimentary house wine and bottled water.
Outside space - compared to most other hotels in Riva, the Savoy Palace had a comparatively large, lovely lawned pool area complete with separate spa pool. Although not enormous, it was more than big enough to accommodate those who wished to sunbathe (as most guests seemed to be on coach tours, they tended to go out most days.) It was a bonus to be able to sunbathe in peace, without any annoying background music. There was also a beautiful, hard-landscaped area at the side of the hotel where afternoon tea could be enjoyed.
Other guests - the average age of the guests was 60 plus. Although my husband and I are quite a bit younger than that, we were pleased to be sharing our holiday with an older age group who enjoyed dressing for dinner, were very personable, polite and not at all rowdy!
Location - the hotel is excellently situated only a couple of minutes from the beautiful lakeside promenade which stretches 20 minutes' walk to the centre of Riva in one direction and to Torbole in the other.
Newspapers - a range of free newspapers was supplied every day for guests to enjoy in the reception areas.
Drinks receptions – a free drinks reception was put on put on almost every other night after dinner. This was usually a glass of prosecco or a cocktail accompanied by biscotti or sweet pastries.

Room for Improvement (I will not call these 'negatives' as that would be far too harsh.)
Decor - the room decor is fairly old-fashioned and the mattress and pillows a little hard, but everywhere was absolutely spotless. Our bathroom had a shower and, although the water pressure and temperature were excellent, it would have been nice to have a bath as well.
Air conditioning - it may just have been our room, but the aircon was not as cool as we would have liked.
Evening entertainment - although my husband and I are not huge fans of hotel entertainment, preferring to go for a stroll or simply read after dinner, the evening entertainment could have been a little more varied, consisting as it did of a solo singer / keyboard player every night. A band or a group of singers would have made a nice change occasionally.

Room Tip: Ask for a (partial) view of the lake.

Booked with Riviera holidays and stayed at Hotel Savoy Palace. The 4 star rating was pushing it a little bit but just about OK. The Riviera rep (Kate) was very professional and helpful but did fail to inform us of things like afternoon tea being provided or that the hotel operated a happy hour before dinner. Could not fault the cleanliness of the hotel but our bathroom (room 521) always had the smell of drains about it. Staff very friendly and generally helpful. Although the choice of meals was varied for those amongst the party that preferred plainer food that was a bit tricky but having said that the fresh fruit on offer was truly superb and plentiful. Location of the hotel a little disappointing down a side street off the main road and certainly nowhere in sight of the lake. The included tours provided by Riviera Travel certainly covered all of our requirements and although we had some poor weather it did not stop it from being an enjoyable holiday.

Room Tip: All rooms face other hotels, views sideways from the rooms are of the mountains. Three lifts servici...

Two of us stayed here for 14 nights on half board basis at the end of July. We booked the holiday with Cosmos. Cosmos organised things very well and our rep was excellent.
We have stayed in Riva on several occasions in different hotels but visited this hotel once before in 2005. We feel we know the area well.
The Savoy Palace is a good hotel. It ticks most of the boxes but is not perfect.
It is located away from the main road which runs from Riva to Torbole. The hotel does not suffer from any road or traffic noise. This is a bonus as many hotels in the area are situated on the main road.
The service in all areas of the hotel is excellent. The reception, restaurant, bar, pool and cleaning staff are very good and really friendly. We have experienced this in most Italian hotels.
The restaurant was first class, serving an excellent buffet choice at breakfast and a good selection of options for the evening meal with a superb salad buffet to start. Drinks in the restaurant and bar were good value.
Our double room on an upper floor was a good size with a large bathroom and small balcony overlooking the front of the hotel. The room was kept exceptionally clean with fresh towels everyday. The room was looking very tired though with dull brown paintwork that had many black scuffmarks left from guests luggage etc. The room really needed redecoration.
The corridors and stairwells were similar - dark and a bit grubby but always clean.
The pool area was super. There were always sunbeds available even when the hotel was full, as it was for most of our stay. The pool was spotless and the surrounding grass and flowers well kept, The view of Monte Brione was lovely too The pool snackbar provided drinks and food at a reasonable cost.
The reception area was huge with plenty of chairs although most of the sofas needed cleaning.
Free wifi was available. Just ask for the log in code from reception.
Entertainment is provided every evening on the terrace or in the bar. The quality of this is poor and appears to be provided simply to keep guests on site and the bar tills ringing. We would have loved to have sat out on the terrace unders the stars with a glass of something but we gave it a miss.
Free cycle hire for 3 hours was a great bonus. Just leave a deposit. We visited Arco etc on the excellent local cyclepaths.
Near to the hotel, on or just off Viale Rovereto, is a huge choice of good restaurants, bars and cafes. Our favourite was Bar Cantonati where the drinks, gelati and service are amazing. We also like the gelati at Pelligrin gelateria. In Riva visit Cafe Maroni and eat at Leon D'Oro. Prices seem reasonable everywhere.
The Savoy palace is a good hotel but it is need of a real upgrade. I have mentioned the tired condition of some parts of the hotel. The other issue for us, as non smokers, was the acceptance by the management of smoking in every available outside space but especially on the balconies. Ashtrays were even provided in every room. The balconies were very vulnerable as they were very open, providing no privacy with just a low railing separating your space from the neighbours on either side. Neighbours smoke drifted onto our balcony on many occasions leaving us with no option but to go indoors and shut our balcony door. Pity as the weather was so brilliant. The hotel states that it is non smoking but the reality is different. I accept that this happens in many parts of Europe.
To conclude: the Savoy Palace is a good hotel with great service but it is in need of an upgrade. It has slipped behind other hotels in the area and now needs to re-establish its position in this fabulous and beautiful corner of Italy.

The hotel is up a narrow lane leading from the centre of Riva Del Garda which causes pedestrians , drivers and passengers some concern. The building is well constructed and maintained but sound travels along and between floors so it is possible too hear other guest moving about at night or during other quiet periods. It is also possible to hear other guest outside the rooms as they pass along the corridors and on entering their rooms.
Food was extremely good at dinner but the hot food at breakfast time was only luke warm.
Staff are friendly, courteous and tolerate people not speaking Italian by being reasonable speakers of English.
As an Internet geek I was particularly appreciative of the Free wireless internet access in my room and throughout the hotel; there are computers available near the reception area for guests to use who do not carry their own laptop with them. Access is via a temporary user account which is obtained from reception.
I had a classic room which is the most basic, this was perfectly satisfactory for me with twin single beds, a dressing table/desk with upright chair. The television was a good size with a good range of channels available and the air conditioning was excellent enabling me to get the ideal environment.
There was a mini bar and safe in my room. The mini bar was also a fridge in which I put my own bottled water beside the items already in the mini bar ! A deposit is required for the key to the safe but I did not make use of this.
The outdoor swimming pool was excellent with spray fans and a bubble pool the indoor pool was heated and adjacent to the sauna and fitness centre in the basement.
Music was played five nights of the week by the resident Musician Alfredo who radiated warmth and played items by request expertly and sensitively.
The Dinners were outstanding and much appreciated by me. As a keen cook myself I appreciated the presentation, texture, taste and temperature of every dish that was served.
Menus were put on each table at breakfast and each guest could mark up their choice of dishes in advance, but it was possible to delay the choice if you did not feel able to select in advance. Self service bars at breakfast and dinner were wide ranging and very accessible. I doubt if anybody could not find items they liked.
There was complimentary tea coffee and cakes every day between 16:00 hrs and 17:00hrs
The range of food choices was very wide with no dish being repeated throughout my stay.
Reception staff were charming, accommodating and helpful whenever I had a query and did everything they could to help me.
The hotel owner came in to the restaurant on two nights and invited guests to themed events in the bar with complimentary drinks.
There are deluxe, family and superior rooms available for those people who require something more than I require but I have no experience of these rooms. I certainly recommend this hotel to anybody.
The walk from Riva Del Garda is down a narrow lane and need to be negotiated carefully but the walk is well worth the effort when you get to the Hotel

Room Tip: First floor rooms are a bit noisey during the day but are good value for the budget conscious
