“A great family run hotel”
Reviewed June 27, 2008

We have just returned from a lovely weeks stay at the Hotel Riviera in Riva del Garda. This is a family run hotel. The hotel is about a 20 minutes walk along the lakeshore from the main resort. You can walk either along the lakeside promenade with fabulous views of the mountains, or along the main road passing a lovely ice cream parlour near the Q8 garage.

We booked a room with a lakeview and balcony. It was worth the extra cost. The view was breathtaking and we got the afternoon sun. We stayed in room 207. The room itself was quite small with a small bathroom with a shower cubicle. The hairdryer was on the wall, the type with a hose, only 700 watts. The room was kept spotlessly clean. The twin beds were only 2 foot 6 inches in width and very firm. There was plenty of coathangers in the wardrobe, with a flatscreen tv in the room. Not many English channels. The hotel pool and gardens are across the road.

For breakfast we had a choice of fresh fruit salad , yoghurt, cereals, cold meats and cheeses, hot bacon and scrambled eggs. You could also boil yourself an egg. There was also bread to toast, rolls, croissants, pastries and cake. For the evening meal there was a small salad buffet and 3 choices each for starter, main course and desert. The food was very good.

We were treated well by fthe family and staff ,and no differently to any other nationality. We were shown to our room on arrival by the owners wife, who was also on hand to bid us farewell when we left. We would recommend this hotel and have no hesitation in saying there again.

Hotel Riviera is a nice family hotel. No frills, but just clean, functionnal, welcoming. Good breakfast, friendly staff.

I had a room at the back, which was silent. Equipments are a mixture of old and new: I would guess that the hotel is investing progressively, and is currently in a transition phase. But everything was working fine.

The hotel is situated at the "beginning" of the main lake-side strip in Riva, which is good, but could be found to be a bit "far" for those who want to be near the center of the old-city (10min walk). For me it was perfect. The ice-cream shop is 30sec away: excellent.

I found breakfast to be excellent: much better than in many italian hotels: it was more continental with good bread (none of these fancy italian ultra-sweet pastries).

So basically, it's the top end of the three stars hotels at a reasonnable price.

  • Liked — The value for the money.
  • Disliked — The outside looks of the hotel.

We arrived late at the hotel, due to a delayed flight, early hours of the morning, but the hotel owner was there to meet us and took our cases upto our room. The room was comfortable. spotless and clean, and the bathroom adequate for our needs. The morning after we looked out of the window to a wonderful view of mountains, the lake and port of San Nicolo. Our room was on the first floor with an enormous balcony. Our hosts, the owner and his wife were charming, and all staff members including the owners daughter worked very hard in the bar and restaurant.
The food was excellent, both at breakfast and evening dinner.
Varied choices and well presented, and served with a smile.
We had clean towels every day and the bed linen was changed 3 times during the week. I have visited Lake Garda many times and stayed in a number of different hotels, but for me this was the best I have ever experienced. WE WILL BE BACK !!

Just been over for a Family Wedding at Malcesine and stayed 5 nights B&B in the Riviera. Very good hotel which was made even better by my wife and I being allocated the best room in the house. The owner and his family are really nice people who, along with their few staff, are extremely helpful. The hotel is at the eastern end of Riva, about a mile from the village centre along a flattish (no major climbs), quite busy, road or a bit further if you follow the lakeside. Torbole is just over a mile to the east. The breakfast was a typical Mediterranean buffet and was good enough for us. Lunch and dinner were also available. A decent sized swimming pool, with changing rooms and toilets, is in an area over the road with plenty of beds and chairs. The view over the lake from our room was marvellous. There are several roadside restaurants and bars in the local area.

  • Liked — The views.
  • Disliked — Distance from Riva centre.

Basic hotel in need of updating, lovely seperate pool & garden area, although crossing the busy main road could become a dangerous problem at peak times. The staff at the hotel were extremely unfriendly towards British patrons, but fawned over the other patrons. There is a bland atmosphere as no music /entertainment at all. We were not informed of any facilitiesavailable and had to find out from others what was what!! Even where the pool was!!! I would recommend the resort and will return but sadly NOT to Hotel Riviera. A must is the trip to Venice, which was truly wonderful but was a bit of a rushed timetable.

Arrived at 10:30 at night to be met by the hotel owner, who insisted on carrying all our bags up to the room for us, then informed us he would have a meal and a drink ready in the bar in 10 minutes.

The staff (owner, his wife, daughter and a few waitresses) were all very polite and knew which nationality you were and which room you were in straight away, so no fiddling with money at the bar as it all went on the tab.

Brilliant location looking out on to the harbour of Porto San Nicolo, with a ten minute walk down the road to the main centre, or 20 minutes stroll along the coastal path.

The food was excellent with a good choice and variations at the meal times.

I will definitely be going back here.

I am back home after 7 days in a very good 3 star hotel. I arrived at 1.30 am but the owner was still there to welcome us. The room was spotless and very well appointed. I opened the curtains the first morning to discover the the most stunning view I have ever seen. Breakfast is limited but plentiful. The pool area is across the road but there is a zebra crossing directly outside the hotel leading to it. The pool area is very clean and private. The position of the hotel is about 10 minutes walk from the centre of Riva Del Garda and there is a walkway opposite the hotel at the marina that is very pleasant. The bar is lovely too. I look forward to travelling to this hotel again and I would recommend anybody to stay there.
