“"Super Time"”
Reviewed September 12, 2013

Just back from our holiday in Riva travelling with the Travel Department and staying at the Liberty - our first time with this tour operator and we are very impressed our guide Renate was exceptional with her witty, friendly, professional approach our tours were brilliant and we always felt safe travelling with our drivers Mario and Manwell. Well done Travel Department for employing such good staff throughout our trip!!!
The Liberty is spotless and we received a very large room overlooking the pool and although the furnishings were of an older style this did not bother us (others told me that their rooms were very cramped but they ask for a change and got sorted out). The air-con was not on for us but I ask reception to put it on and that was no bother.
The dining room is very organised the head waiters see that all runs smooth with a good bit of humour thrown in, our waiter Bruno was very attentive and made sure we got all we needed-thank you. We enjoyed the food as we are very happy with the European diet, though if your tastes were limited you would struggle. The breakfast was not the vast array of food we have had in other places but was of good quality and satisfied us, was great to get good coffee in the morning.
The Liberty is very well placed for exploring Riva and also for the use of the public boats going to the other towns on the lake, the bus service is also very good. We managed to get bicycles compliments of the tourist office and used the cycles lanes to travel about safely away from the busy roads.
We had a super time and would not hesitate in recommending this holiday, thanks again to all.

Room Tip: Ask for a large room and be aware you could be allocated an attic room which are not so good I am to...

On reading previous reviews I was very concerned that we might be allocated an "attic" room but were assured by the Travel Department that their customers do not get these rooms. Was given Room 404 which is a very large room on the ground floor looking out onto the beautiful garden and swimming pool. A great start to a great holiday! The staff in this holiday really do deserve a special mention because they really are very professional. Nothing is too much trouble for them. When we didn't like the choices on the menu (you choose your dinner menu at breakfast time) "George" asked us would we like "grilled chicken and chips instead". He never minded altering the menu to suit anybody's tastes. Breakfast was very good and definitely the best coffee, complete with jug of hot milk. Reception staff also were very helpful even allowing me to use the hotel's computer to do on-line check in. All the staff speak good English which is a big plus. This hotel is in a great location in the centre of Riva from where we enjoyed some great excursions with our guide Renate who was very knowledgeable and helpful. Would love to return to this area and hotel sometime in the future.

We have spent four nights at the grand hotel liberty in riva del Garda . I had read the reviews prior to booking so my expectations had not been too high on the attic rooms . However the hotel needs to make decisions about these rooms . The bathrooms are unsuitable , like other reviews the bath leaked so had to put towels on the floor , you cannot stand up in the shower as the roof slopes , no shower curtain or screen to protect the floor , a definite musty smell , perhaps this is because the bath is leaking . ! The room was dark , old fashioned cover on the bed and a tiny window , much like a cell window . Positive s are the function rooms , bar and bar service , a good breakfast too. The hotel needs to make a decision about using these rooms for Internet bookings as the reviews are quite negative . People expect a decent basic room and bathroom or they will not return or recommend to others .

Room Tip: Do not have an attic room

Good afternoon,

thanks a lot for your review, we understand your
position about the attic rooms, we have 3 other types
of room that people can choose, and for sure
our price/quality is very good.

We know that we need to refurbish some rooms, we will
do it when the economy system return on a better way

Thanks a lot

Stylish hotel on entering and it is in an ideal location in Riva, close to the port and old town. Restaurant had friendly service with good waiters and a good choice of 4 starters, mains and desserts every evening. The choice and quality was good.
Rooms are more 3* than 4*, but OK. Main poor point for both of our double rooms on the 2nd floor was the ridiculously small (10 inches wide) shower screen, if it could be called a screen. It was impossible to have a shower without soaking the floor. The only plus point of that was the maids brought clean dry towels every day and took the soggy ones from the floor. We did mention this to reception and they offered to show us other rooms with a 'box shower', but they wanted us to be there to view the rooms at 10am. We had plans so didn't bother.

We have just returned from a week spent in Riva at this impressive hotel. It is superbly located a short walk from both Lake Garda itself and the old town with its numerous cafes, restaurants and gelateria. The hotel oozes 'old world' charm from the moment you walk up the steps to the main entrance. The room we were in was comfortable and clean though the bathroom was cramped and the shower over the bath kept flooding the room every time it was used. This was a minor irritation but be careful when standing in the bath as there is no protection from the slippery ceramic surface. In other hotels this may mean a drop in the rating but the real plus that makes this one excellent is the staff. From the front desk staff through to the maids, everyone made us feel welcome and we really did feel like nothing was too much trouble. We were even allowed to keep our room for an extra 90 minutes free of charge on our last day as our pickup wasn't until the early afternoon. Special mention needs to be made of the restaurant staff that were so friendly, efficient funny and accommodating. When we returned from Venice with just a few minutes to go before the restaurant stopped serving at 9pm, the staff were so welcoming and George, the excellent maitre d., even waived the customary dress code so I didn't have to change. Even better, the price of drinks in the hotel was the cheapest we came across whilst on this holiday. The coffee, beer and cocktails we had, both with our meals and in the bar, were all reasonably priced and the coffee was the best I tasted in the whole week. At no time did we feel exploited. I would recommend this hotel without reservation if you want somewhere that is stylish without being pretentious, friendly and close to both the lake and the smallish town of Riva. You will get some noise from the main road and a biergarten situated nearby but this all ends by midnight and didn’t cause us any lost sleep.

Room Tip: Ask for an extension to your booking out time if you have an afternoon flight. If they can they will...

This is a lovely hotel. Central. The communal areas have character and are well looked after. The food is good and some nights it was very good. The staff in the restaurant are excellent and the whole hotel has a calm relaxing atmosphere.
Everywhere is clean. The pool area is tidy but no bar service, bit of a shame.

However, if you stay in Room 405 you will be sadly disappointed at the lack of any character and the bathroom will drive you mad due to its bad design. If you want to pick something up in the shower or girls shave you legs you will have to open the doors. The sink is far too big so all week you will have to shuffle along to the toilet. The room is too small to dry yourself in and you can only get one person at a time in there. No real place for your toiletries.
The hotel staff did offer to move us in two days time, but by then I was in holiday mode and could not be bothered. A bit on the dowdy side. – sorry.

Good afternoon and thanks for your review !

I understand your position about the toilet, not all are same,
depend in which area of the hotel you are and which type of room.

We always say that we will update some rooms/bathroom, we really want
and we are waiting some better period of economy to make this upgrade

Thanks a lot for now

We spent 2 very pleasent nights in Grand Hotel. We deciced for economic room (attic) and it was good call.

The room was spacious with comfortable bed - the only drawbacks may have been small roof window and only a little glass screen on the thub as a shower - not very comfortable for having shower.

Apart from that - everyting was 100% fine. Very helpful staff, very rich breakfasts, pleasent SPA area.

The outdoor pool seems to be too small for these quantity of visitors - only two umbrellas around with two beds for each - were "booked" by thrown towels I think starting from 5 or 6 a.m.Too few sun beds as well - people had to lay down on the grass. Not good for such a place. Fortunately SPA area was empty so I could have the pool just for myself :)

Hotel is absolutely perfect located for reaching center of Riva del Garda by foot - only 7 minutes walk and you are lost within lovely, small and very romantic alleys and all bars, restaurants and lake itself.

Room Tip: Attic room is not a bad choice - don't be afraid of taking it :)
