“great hol!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 11, 2011

we are just back from a weeks trip to Hotel Centrale in riva, Lake Garda. We had an excellent holiday. The staff were great and the food was good, dont know what others were complaining about. We arrived at the hotel at 11pm and were provided with a hot meal, which was totally unexpected. Thye hotel was ideally situated for the ferries, shops and restaurants. Couldn't fault the service and my request for a low floor was granted. The views are spectacular and we would certainly go back. The transfer time was just over an hour and a quarter. We flew with Newmarket Holidays and had a most relaxing time.

Room Tip: we asked for a lake view room on a low floor

Upon arriving at Verona Airport there was no Rep waiting for us. We waited an hour before someone from our Group saw a gentleman walking backwards and forwards along the Airport and approached him; it turned out that he was our bus driver. A plaquard stating Italian Getaways would have been helpful. The Hotel itself is situated in a lovely position and the views were beautiful, albeit you had to pay £100 for this luxury. You could not fault the cleanliness of the hotel room, but its a pity the same could not be said about the dining room, some of the seat covers were dirty and heavily marked. The tables were in long straight lines so it was like being in a canteen. The food was disappointing, breakfast: coffee you could not drink, freezing cold hard boiled eggs, cereal that was like sawdust. The evening meal was just as bad, if not worse, in fact we chose to eat elsewhere.

Me and a friend just had 1 week hol and could not fault the hotel in any way. In fact, I can't believe anyone could make a negative report about this hotel. Location could not be bettered but the hotel itself had very clean rooms, friendly staff, excellent food in their 'normal' restaurant and even better food outside in the 'a la carte' restauarant. There was a larger than life character as owner who invited some guests to 'aperitifs' with him at the bar before dinner. Best bit for us was the views from our room. Wow!
We had to pay a extra for a front facing lake view room and, in our opnion, that was worth every penny. So, as we had "no regrets" about Hotel Centrale I have no hesitation to recommend this hotel to anybody.

Just got back from a 1 week holiday (we booked through Italian Getaways and we found them amazing, nothing was too much trouble). We have been to Lake Garda 3 times before and this time was, with doubt, our best. And, in the past we went with Thomsons and paid much more for less (Italian Getaways gave us free tours to Venice and verona but Thomsons didn't). The hotel was right in front of the lake. We paid extra for a lake view room and we were so glad we did. What fantastic views to wake up to each morning !!!!. Rooms were spotlessly clean, perfectly comfortable, with TV and (important to us) fairly good water pressure in the showers. Breakfasts were help yourself buffet style (as much as you wanted). Italian Getaways offered us, as part of our package, free Table D'hote evening meals. At first we were sceptical about allegedly free meals. However, we were pleasantly surprised. These meals were 3 courses, table served by pleasant professional waiters and the food exceeded our expectations by a long shot. However, the hotel had an even better outdoor A La Carte restaurant and we ate there for 3 out of our 7 nights. It was really good (and the price difference that we had to pay the waiter to up-grade to A La Carte was negligible).
My wife and I would recommend this hotel to anybody and we have already contacted Italian Getaways to try to re-book for June next year.
Hope this review helps you and, in my view, you shouldn't give much time to negative reviews because although there are some 'moaners' who turn up everywhere, this hotel was, for us, completely above criticism.

This hotel is ideally situated in the centre of Riva for getting around during the day.....but at night is SO noisy with all the diners, revellers and even a Rock Band keeping you awake till after 2a.m. Fortunately the nearby clock tower stops chiming every 15 minutes at 11p.m.! We paid an extra £100 for a lakeside view and that cost us our sleep!!
The Buffet Breakfast is passable, but the Table D`hote Dinner is reminiscent of school meals and not recommended. Sit outside, pay the extra and go for the A La Carte instead.
Spotlessly clean with basic, but comfortable rooms.
No pool or lounge area, which we missed.

Having just returned from a seven day holiday at the Hotel Centrale, Riva del Garda my partner and I would offer the following as preparation for the experience.
We booked the holiday through “Italian Getaways” responding to an offer in the Guardian newspaper. The airline we flew with, Flybe, was fine and the transfer to the resort from Milan airport went smoothly if a tad lengthy, at close to three hours.
The room we booked at the Hotel Centrale faced over the main square of the town and had a stunning view up Lake Garda. We paid a £50.00 supplement for this but we would say it was well worth the money.
The room itself, however, although clean was looking a tad “tired” and in need of refurbishment. Scuffed paint-work, chipped surfaces, . . . this kind of thing. The bathroom was spotless, and supplied regularly with clean towels. The room was serviced well, cleaned daily and the beds immaculately made . Full marks to the room servicing staff.
The reception area is rather small and in my experience was not staffed for long periods of time, something which I feel is a security issue given that the room keys are deposited by guests in the easily accessible key rack on leaving the hotel for the day. These were then collected by the guests on their return, again in my experience, often with no reception staff on the desk. My concern is that any chancing passer by with felonious intent could just as easily picked up a room key and used it to enter whilst the guest was out.
In addition, and perhaps of more concern, was my experience on collecting our passports on the day prior to our leaving. I requested our passports form the hotel “safe”. The receptionist merely went to a draw with a key in it positioned just below the easily accessible key rack previously mentioned unlocked the drawer, removed our passports and returned the other passports, locked the drawer and left the key in the lock. Not best practise.
The bar area was utilitarian and uninviting with nothing that could be described as a lounge or bar seating area with easy chairs or the like, other than the seating in the restaurant area.
Although we were booked half board we elected to eat out each night and therefore we only have experience of the breakfasts.
The dining area for the package holiday guests is just like a works canteen.
The selection of fare on offer for breakfast was uniformly dull and boring. Tinned fruit/hard-boiled eggs/salami/ham/dried bread/jams/cereals and yoghurt. The quality of the stuff was questionable to say the least and cobbling together a decent breakfast was a daily challenge for myself, something my partner did not feel up to on occasions, in particular because of the toaster which had “attitude” and delivered either slightly warm bread or charcoal, with nothing in-between that could be described as “toast”.
The deal we had included a couple of free trips to Venice and Verona. We also booked and paid for a Lake Trip to Sirmone, somewhere we were particularly looking forward to visiting. However due to the incompetence, ( for this is all it could be attributed to given the weak excuses we were given by way of explanation), by the tour guide we managed to miss the trip and felt a whole day had been wasted. I shall not go into details but the incident occurred despite my identifying myself to the tour guide and producing the travel docket which included our names and room number. The bus set off and the tour guide assured us another would be following, it never arrived. . . . It seems she later rang the hotel to enquire if the guests from room No 403, (ourselves), had checked out for the day as we were missing from the tour ? ? ? ?. . . . . . As I say, incompetent . . .
The Verona trip was fine albeit conducted in pouring rain and thunder storms. Indeed there was not one day wherein it did not either rain/thunder, not the fault of the hotel, I know, but it may explain an element of “grumpiness” throughout this review.
Beware the visit to the jewellery factory on the return from the Verona trip, it is nothing more than a “soft” hard sell. Indeed one lady we spoke to described feeling “under pressure” to buy an item of jewellery she could not afford but had indicated she liked the look of.
To sum up. The hotel needs to “pull it’s socks up” with regards customer service. It is obvious that a regular influx of holiday makers supplied by UK and German package holiday firms has led to a complacency which seems to be focused more on a speedy through-put of punters rather than offering a service to valued guests.
Finally, I feel it needs to be said that the cleaning staff in the hotel are the un-sung, hardest working members of the staff team. Thank you to them.

Stayed for one week booked through Italian Getaways. We booked a lake view room which was well worth paying the £50 pp upgrade. Breakfast was very disappointing and the worst breakfast we have experienced in any hotel. Juice so watered down it had no flavour. No fresh fruit, just tinned. Coffee that was undrinkable from a machine. Very dry croissants when available and we had to sit in what appeared to be a school like dining room in rows with other guests. The hotel's brochure was made in the 1990's and that is exactly where the hotel is stuck!! But a great location!
