“Excellent Hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 13, 2009

Myself and my girlfriend stayed here in for a fortnight in August 08 and had an absolutely magnificent time. The hotel was clean, the rooms were spotless, although admittedly a little small.

We opted for the self-catering option and so had the kitchen at our disposal. Not the best kitchen in the world but adequate for breakfast and lunch, which suited us down to the ground as we had planned on eating out every night anyway. Most rooms have kitchens but if you book a room only the kitchen door will be locked and they will charge a daily rate to use it.

The hotel staff were extremely helpful and were always on hand to answer our questions on all sorts of topics. We spent most of our time down by the lake but the hotel itself had an excellent pool, soccer pitch and table tennis court on the grounds. That said, we are not the types to hang around hotels all day and, by and large, only used the hotel to sleep, eat breakfast and lunch and have the odd drink every other night.

Riva itself and the greater Lake Garda region is an absolute gem for anyone and everyone. Those looking for a relaxing holiday can sunbathe on the many beaches dotted around the lake, and the culturally inclined can visit the many beautiful towns situated on the lakeside and the historic cities of Venice and Verona are all within a few hours drive.

For those looking for a bit of adventure, sports activities range from rock-climbing to canyoning, to cycling, wind-surfing, sailing, etc.

I would 100% recommend a trip to Riva and would equally recommend a stay in this hotel.

  • Liked — High level of cleanliness and the staff were extremely helpful

We spent a week at this hotel and we were a little nervious based on some of the reviews we had read. On are arrival the room was big and spotless and after that it got better and better. The staff are very helpfull with a pool,Football pitch and Table tennis all on site. Any small issues we needed to sort were dealt with immediatly. It is a 25 min walk to Riva town and the Ferry but we found the quiet area a bonus. Pleanty of good resturants are only a short walk away anyhow. We did have to pay extra for everything - Safety deposit, Air conditioning, Internet. But only a minor inconveniance. Would certainly stay there again if we were in Riva. By the way the breakfast was class for a 3 star but be early as it's runs out fast. Good stuff !

Returned today from a fantastic week at Ambassador Suite Hotel.
Located in a quiet area very convenient for lake shore and restaurants, this hotel is clean, comfortable and the staff were exceptionally helpful and friendly. The buffet breakfast is comprehensive and caters for a range of dietary needs. Swimming pool, hot tub and grounds are well maintained. Use of bicycles is a great plus, enabling easy access to town centre.

We've just returned from a week long stay at the hotel for a family wedding. A large number of us stayed at the hotel, and we were all delighted with the service and standard of accommodation. We stayed in a ground floor self catering appartment, which had a huge bedroom and a large sitting room with a pull out double bed. The bathroom was huge and really clean. We had a small kitchenette, with everything you'd need - hob, fridge, microwave, dishwasher etc. The pool was lovely - my six year old had a wonderful holiday. There's a small soccer pitch and a grassy volley ball court, table tennis, nintendo, board games, even a small library. I forgot to bring home an important document when I left the hotel, and when I contacted them on my return home, they couldn't have been nicer - I received my goods within 2 days by post.

Wonderful hotel - ideal for families. My mum, who is quite immobile, found the hotel very easy to manage, and the staff were more than helpful.

I have just returned from a four day trip to Lake Garda for a friend's wedding. Most of the wedding party stayed in this hotel and we were very happy.
One of the reviews I read really had me worried but I was very pleased with what I found. The hotel was spotless and the staff were friendly. The pool was nice with shade from the trees if needed and a small play area for children. There were plenty of sunbeds with cousins stored in a small wooden shed. There was also a lovely gazebo.
I booked the hotel by emailing the hotel directly and found them very helpful and with good english. They also gave me information on how to get to the hotel from the various airports. I also asked at reception when I was there to contact a hairdressers and they did, with no problem.
The location is very close to the lake too, which was very picturesque.

  • Liked — Overall it was a good all round hotel

We have just returned from the Suite Hotel Lake Garda. I was very worried due to the reports I had read but I was, on the whole, pleased. The hotel was basic but the rooms were fairly large and the daily cleaners were efficent.. The showers were off putting as some of the rooms we stayed in had black mould in the grouting - yuck! I think the hotel needs a face lift as it is well used and a little tired looking. If you book a room make sure you ask for a pool view as we were assigned a back facing room which looked out on to a storm drain and although chairs and tables were provided it didn't smell very nice and there were no views so we didn't sit there. The food was tasty and plentiful and the choice was good. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The towels are very thin and not what we are used to so I would take your own, you will need pool towels as they are not provided.
We had been warned about the busy roads and it was true. It took a good 10/15 minutes walk to reach Garda town and at times there was no pavement. Our rep told us about an alternative route through the park at the back of the hotel and although there was no pavement it was a quiet road and much safer.
We loved Garda, it was fab sitting and watching the world go by and the range of shops and restaurants was great. It was also very convenient to access the bus and ferry to to other places. The bus was very cheap and quick but do try the ferry as it is cool and the views are fantastic. Our family loved Bardolino and Malcesine although we did find Sirmione very busy and a bit chaotic.
We booked the full day excursions with Inghams, the company we booked with, and we think they were good value.

We went to the Dolomites, a long but extraordinary day with breathtaking views. You must go up the cable car, it was cold but you won't believe the views.

Venice was another great trip but I wouldn't bother with the boat tour of the islands. The gondolas provided a very good feeling for Venice and it was lovely and quiet away from the main square. If you go to St Mark's join an English Tour, they're free and they really help you to make sense of this wonderful church. It's also worth a climb up the tower, even if, like me, you are afraid of heights. If you can stay until the evening it is lovely to see how the city changes when night comes. If you get the opportunity go for a meal with the reps as it is much cheaper and they know where the good places to eat are.

Our other trip to Verona was one of our favourites. We mapped out where we wanted to go before the day and the rep gave us a great map. The city is easy to navigate and the architecture is amazing. Try visiting Juliet's tomb - very peaceful and quiet, Juliet's balcony - be patient it does quieten down and people do take turns. Buy a combined ticket it is cheaper. The churches Anastasi and Duomo are definately worth a vist but buy a combined ticket as it is cheaper.

I went to Garda with my elderly parents, my 19 year old daughter and my brother and we all agreed we would return to Lake Garda tomorrow. A great family resort with lots to do, you would never be bored!

This is our second year staying here at the Ambassador Suites hotel and we have enjoyed it immensely. The first year we did it as a package deal from First Choice (never again!) and the second we booked direct and got a discount for that and coming back again! We also upgraded to an apartment and it was worth it, and not overly expensive.
The hotel is situated off the main road so it is quiet with beautiful views of the mountians and lemon/olive groves. There aren't massive queues for pool chairs etc, and the breakfast buffet was lovely, though this year we opted to buy at the local supermarket, since we had a kitchen.
The person who rated this hotel poorly is way off the mark- they must've been talking about a different place! We'll keep coming back, that's for sure!!!
