“The Perfect Destination”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 16, 2012

We just returned from three nights at Villa Angelica, and our stay was perfect. We are already making plans to return. I won't repeat the detailed reviews already posted, except to say we completely agree! The villa is beautiful, the grounds are enchanting, and Angelica is the perfect hostess. Our family of four stayed in a two bedroom, two bath apartment with a large fully equipped kitchen and large living room/ dining room. Everything is tastefully decorated and extremely comfortable. The villa is less than 1km from the center of Riva. It is an easy walk to and from town, and far enough away to enjoy the quiet of the villa grounds. The villa is set in a beautiful park, with gated access, and a mountain stream just outside the walls. During our next stay we will spend more time enjoying and exploring the beautiful park and gardens and the fascinating villa itself. This was our first trip to Riva del Garda, and we were not prepared for the natural beauty and character of this perfect vacation destination. The wonderful Villa Angelica is the perfect place to enjoy beautiful Riva. Can't wait to return.

I don't even know where to start with this review. On the one hand, I want to share with you what a fantastic time me, my husband and my parents had staying in the beautiful San Cassiano apartment, but on the other hand, I am selfish about letting others know about this incredible secret!
While the extensive grounds, the elegant house itself and the manicured gardens are just stunning, what really made our stay so enjoyable was Angelica and her wonderful assistant, Maria. I have never been made to feel so welcome before - upon arrival, we were all greeted with a warm hug from Angelica and while she was available to help us throughout our whole stay (2 weeks), we honestly felt as if we were staying in this beautiful villa alone, even though she was living in the apartment next to ours!
The house has so much history - just ask Angelica and she will share all the stories about who lived there and how it has changed since Roman times! It was a monastery, a factory and a wealthy paper merchant's home. Just so fascinating.
The apartment of San Cassiano was stunning - beautiful marble floors, very high ceilings, lots of period furniture and antiques and huge rooms. There were 2 bedrooms which connected onto the enormous living room (with formal dining room) which then connected to the kitchen (with a breakfast table) and then the 2 separate bathrooms. Everything was so clean and the bathrooms were modern. I really have nothing negative to say at all. My parents (who are in their 70's) could not stop raving about the place. I can't recommend this place enough, provided you are looking for elegant, historical accommodation in a beautiful setting (the property backs onto a mountain and we could hear the waterfall that passes by the property from our bedroom window - so soothing!). Don't get me started on the garden with the elegant fountains and statues and the olive grove at the back - just amazing.
Angelica told us how to get to the "local" supermarket so that we could get genuine italian food (where all the locals, not tourists shop) and at local prices. She also recommended restaurants in town and this fantastic garden in Gardone (Il Vittoriale degli Italiani) which I definitely recommend too! It's down the west side of the lake.
We will definitely be returning - and we loved Riva del Garda. We were looking for a location on the lake that was not packed with tourists, nor a beach resort and we discovered that this town was ideal!

Room Tip: We loved San Cassiano, but also saw one of the smaller apartments in the building behind which looke...

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The Villa "Villa Angelica" is an imposing 17th century mansion. Shaped like a horseshoe and surrounded by a park that is considered a national monument, it sits on the northern banks of Lake Garda close to Riva. The park, with its 5 fountains, is the only one of its kind in the area. The late Baroque fountain, on whose stairs Franz Kafka and other illustrious guests enjoyed their stay in Riva, is noteworthy. The meticulous and extensive restoration project, which was carried out in the most rigorous respect of the existing structures, has created seven independent residences that are now available to a public of connoisseurs. Only the best materials were used and the quality of the interior decor is superb. Regardless of their size, each apartment has a special charm and personality, and is partially decorated with antiques. Quiet position about 800 mt. From the lake and from the historical centre with a private parking-place. ... more   less
