A very interesting and worthwhile tour. Rita our guide gave us lots of interesting facts but not too many to be boring. The tour is about one and a half to two hours and well worth a go!! Fantastic to see the history below this beautiful little city. We also liked the way the underground spaces had been utilised to display modern art and sculptures

Found this tour by chance. Very helpful guide who didn't hesitate to confirm the tour even if I was Alone. A tour in the unique atmosphère of Rieti's rich past. Absolutely a must!

Our tour guide, Rita - a native of Rieti, provided an informative and interesting dialogue of the underground structures lying beneath the busy streets of Rieti. The immense space and history from its early Roman beginnings to its use as a bomb shelter during the war brought the tour to life in a meaningful way. The use of some of the area as an art installation showing how music can be created from everyday items was very interesting.

A return visit in two years time to see what further exploration and reconstruction has taken place would be very worthwhile.

This was an excellent and personalized tour of Rieti above and below ground. Our host was so passionate about her town and was able to engage everyone in our 8-person group. Fantastic!

We had visited the Lazio region several times but had never made the drive over the mountains to Rieti. We learned that the city has a rich history from Roman times through the Middle Ages and to today. Rita was a very friendly and accommodating tour guide and provided explanation about how the Romans managed Rieti as a source of water to the empire (and how it still is a source today). It was fascinating to see how boats accessed buildings through what are now the streets of the city. The tour was engaging to the kids as they were able to touch the walls and crawl into the spaces of the underground buildings. There was a contemporary art exhibit of what I think were supposed to be musical instruments in one of the rooms; it seemed a bit out of context to the tour itself (plug your ears if you go). All in all, I highly recommend this tour as a way to learn about a fascinating and hidden gem of this beautiful hill region of Italy.

If you're visiting Rieti, you have to do this tour. There's a huge amount to discover under the city as the Romans raised the original Via Salaria into a viaduct to prevent flooding. Rieti also used to be known as the freshwater Venice because its streets flooded each year. Our guide Rita was absolutely fantastic - we loved her enthusiasm for the city. I even ended up buying one of the children's books she writes!

This tour of Rieti and the underground is not to be missed. Rita is not just a tour guide, she is a trained archaeologist and excavating the underground tunnels is her project. She knows Italian history and has written many beautiful books which are available in the local book store. If you want a real treat, stay in her B&B Terrazzo Fiorita. The accommodations are modest but the experience will be rich.
