“First cycling trip to Riccione Italy”
Reviewed July 15, 2013

Our stay at Hotel Belvedere in the first week of June 2013 was absolutely memorable. For me, I would say the best vacation that I have had. Marina was so warm & welcoming when we arrived, and the staff were great. Thanks to Anna, Désirée, Claudio, Daniella, Melanie and the rest of the staff were all so nice and helpful. As a cyclist, it was a dream vacation, with beautiful challenging rides to mountaintop villages, where we had espressos, cappuccinos and our Delicious Belvedere sandwiches. Our guides, Michele, Danilo & Terry, were great, as they took care of us on the rides and challenged us, as well as making it fun. We were in a group of 10 and everyone loved it, including the non-cyclists. Everyday was a different ride to a new location, Urbino, San Leo, San Marino, we're all beautiful, but the countryside was postcard perfect with spectacular views on the roads. The traffic was very respectful of cyclists, and fellow Italian cyclists would greet us with a "Ciao" as they road by. It was nice that Michele's childhood friend Giancarlo even joined us for part of a ride. For a cyclist what could be better than beautiful rides, great food and wine, great guides and staff to make a great stay which is why I will be returning again. The ride to Marina's country home for a barbecue was terrific.

Ciao

My wife and I read a lot of very favourable reviews for the Belevedere and we also heard rave reviews from friends who previously visited, but since we're, ahem, quite picky, we tempered what we read and heard so that we wouldn't get disappointed. Well, to cut to the chase, it was simply Excellent. Everything met our expectations, the food, the rooms, the service (everyone at the front desk eg Desiree, Anna Daniela, the restaurant staff, the fantastic guides (Michele, Danilo and Terry) the mechanic Claudio and of course Marina were all truly wonderful. Now how many hotels have you visited where you end up knowing almost all the staff by their names? We had some friends with us that didn't bike, but they kept busy with by going to the spa, taking cooking/language lessons and shopping in the area. My cyclist friends and I were in heaven, the cycling in this area is simply fantastic. I still have fond memories of doing 7-12 km climbs to visit the spectacular walled towns of San Leo, San Marino and Urbino. There were four levels based on ability and we basically rode in the faster paced Road Tour group while my wife rode in the lower levels so everyone was catered to. The guides are super nice folks (and very strong cyclists also) and they were very good at ensuring that the rides were challenging and if there were any weaker riders they would always keep an eye on them to make sure they didn't get dropped. Upon our return to Toronto we haven't stopped telling all our friends about our wonderful experience at the Belvedere and we can't wait to return soon.

Room Tip: Rooms towards the back of the hotel (facing the pool) are probably quieter than the ones facing the...

I can't even recall. 3 years in a row or 4.?? It doesn't matter. I'm already planning next years cycling vacation with the home stay at Belvedere! I'm not on staff, I'm more like family. At least that's the way Marina et al make you feel while there. It's not right that its called buffet food too. It's more like elegant cuisine with fantastic variety and seemingly limitless supply. Great Riding ,relaxing after great challenges, awesome wine, food, friends, comfort convenience luxury and hospitality. Can it get any better?? Ummm well maybe next year. We will see what Marina can do to out do herself!!

First, the bad. We stayed at the hotel for a week. The only reason we came was to cycle in the area. Unfortunately, there were only two tour guides. This meant that the fast, experienced cyclists got lumped in with those who are less so (ie. slower). For me, it was frustrating to continually stop and wait. In fact, I ended up doing most of my rides by myself (there is an excellent route map provided by the hotel so this wasn't all bad). Overall, the more "recreational" riders will appreciate what this hotel can offer. The more serious cyclists should avoid it.
The food is adequate. It is buffet style so that should give you an idea of the quality (that being said, it was better than most buffets I have had). They do change up the menu so that is positive. You do get wine with the price; the house white is decent, but the red was poor. I should say that the buffet style of eating results in a frenzy when the meal begins. It was like a swarm of locusts around the food. On a couple of occasions there was no food left after the initial "frenzy". I did complain about this to the staff and Marina (to her full credit) was very apologetic and went out of her way to appease me. Thanks for that Marina!
As for the good, the hotel has an excellent pool and spa area. The massages are wonderful (pay extra for that of course, but reasonable prices). The rooms were clean and comfortable (if a bit on the small size) and the air con worked great! I will say that the staff is helpful and very friendly. Overall, for a non-cyclist, you would enjoy this hotel.

Dear Guest,
It’s rare to receive so many excellent ratings for the individual categories from a person who actually holds so many doubts and concerns about his holiday therefore, first of all I would like to thank you even more so for these ratings.

Thank you also for the extreme kindness with which you highlighted my personal role at Hotel Belvedere in Riccione.
Your review presents me, and us, with an important possibility: it allows us to return back on to an important topic such as the sporting experience to be had at a high quality hotel.
We are, we want to be and will always be a Bike Hotel.

Over the recent years we have perfected our skills and organization to welcome cycling fans from all over the world. The bikes that we rent out to guests are of the highest quality (De Rosa), our guides are all of proven ability and helpfulness. Here, we are all dedicated to providing our guests with complete comfort and wellbeing through our constant attention to detail.
No matter how hard I try, I cannot find fault in myself or my team of staff.

For this reason I’m left speechless when I realize that a guest is irritated by the fact that the tour pace was too ‘cruise-like’ and not challenging enough. However, now I understand completely: you wanted a more challenging, longer and pressing tour. Your need is entirely acceptable, but I feel that I must answer you by saying that this type of more intense cycling usually ends towards to the middle of June, also for climatic reasons. In spring the hotel is full of people that, like you, have this kind of expectation. With the arrival of summer, the bike experience continues and we have actually created two calibrated summer packages (which include any eventual companions and children) to facilitate a cyclist’s family decision, the right bike and beach holiday to offer something also for wives and girlfriends. However it is unlikely that the competitive cyclist who is training for the “Nove Colli” or other Gran Fondos alike comes during this time.

The other great moment for a Bike Hotel experience is the autumn season. It starts at the end of August and continues until mid-October. Approximately seven weeks during which the Belvedere puts 7 guides and 5 daily tours at the disposal of our cycling guests who use their bikes not only to do sport but also to discover new landscapes, visit villages and hill-top towns and meet new friends. Our policy is to make all levels of cycling guests happy in the right seasons of the year.
But let’s come back to us.

There is one thing that I simply cannot accept. And this is gratuitous insults. Defining the Belvedere guests as being “locusts” is truly unfair and unkind. Given that our buffet is 20 metres in length and the maximum number of guests in the hotel at any one time is 90, it is unlikely that such gatherings occur that can be compared to biblical invasions of locusts. Our food is certainly well-loved and our guests wait with genuine gourmande anticipation for the opening of the restaurant. The buffet is renowned for being abundant, well-positioned and with one precise characteristic: the dishes which run out are always replaced immediately. If somebody does not like having to stand next to other people while choosing his or her preferred dishes, then they can always opt for table service where our restaurant staff are happy to serve guests at their table with their chosen dishes. This is a free and optional service on request and which is clearly indicated in your information pack on your arrival and on each individual menu at your dinner table.

As far as the wine is concerned, I am the one who feels insulted by your comments. My hotel offers three types of house wine: Trebbiano, Chardonnay and Sangiovese. Of course it is possible that someone does not like any of these three types of wine and it is for this reason that we have created a wine list with over 80 excellent wines. The possibility of choosing one of these prestigious Italian wines is a specific requirement of the majority of our international clientele, who, as well as loving a cycling holiday, also love the taste of the greatest Italian wines.

Infact, it is not by chance that we offered you, not one, but two free bottles of fine Tuscan wine and, in all honesty, I don’t think this is something that would normally happen in any other hotel in the world. Looking for a high level of quality in their wine, our guests (people and not locusts, I reiterate) match this with the high quality of food: one of the pleasures in life that the Belvedere pays particular attention to. In fact we offer weekly themed dinners such as “100% Italia”, “La Marinara” (with fresh fish from the Adriatic sea), “La Romagnola” (with typical local dishes from the region). Moreover, I would also like to remind you of our special corners such as the Ethnic area with sushi and sashimi, the Tex Mex area and the Spanish Paella which I cook personally.
Regarding your disappointment, could I have done anything to make amends? Most definitely! However I would have needed to know, don’t you think? If you had only told me, on the numerous occasions where we had a chat or exchanged a few words, that you really wanted to go for a ‘real’ race, cycle more than 700km in 6 days or even just have a personal tour guide exclusively for you, I would have done everything in my power to fulfill your wish.

Gentile cliente,

Marina Pasquini

We had wonderful time staying with Marina. Every member of staff without exception went out of their way to make us feel welcome. The facilities are excellent the food brilliant the cycling just great. A special thanks to Danilo for being an excellent tour guide, with a focus on safety and sharing with us the history and beautiful countryside on the panorama tours. Claudio did a great job setting up our bikes and nothing was too much trouble for him. Anna handled our booking perfectly. Our fellow guests were full of smiles as we shared stories of our cycling endeavors. Marina will tell you this is not a normal hotel this is more of a family and we cannot wait until we can return next year to see our adopted Italian family once again.
