We stayed here for 5 nights, and absolutely fell in love with the place. The staff could not have been friendlier. We loved the personal touch. If you love quiet little hotels this is definitely the place for you. It's a little out of the way, but this was not a problem as we had a rental car. We hope to be able to stay here again in the future!

We stayed at Villag Rigacci in July, 2009 (my sister, myself and my teenage daughter). The owner (Fredrico) and the restaurant manager could not have been more helpful and friendly. The villa is a gem tucked in the hills outside of Florence (28 minutes by train from Florence). The villa itself is beautiful - just what you would see in a movie! Our room (triple) was beautiful, a mix of antiques and new. The food is served on the restaurant terrace overlooking the mountains. It was DELICIOUS and we felt part of the family. Nice pool for the kids and adults. Can't say enough about our stay at Villa Rigacci - we will definitely be back!

The hotel is XV century villa with beautiful garden and surandings. The staff is plasent and gentle but the best of all were the smells. The owner of the hotel offered us a simphony of toskanis flavours. Special bread with olive oil, home made cake and beautiful hot bread, not to meniton prosciuto crudo....
In this plasent and frendly hotel we will certenly come agian...

I am very surprised about the rather 2 negative reviews dd. Aug/Sept. We booked 9 nights in July, we felt sad to leave the beautiful Toscane so we booked an extra night and we already took an option for July 2009. It is a fantastic hotel with very friendly owners having a great hospitality ! They spoiled us with information about e.g. the market in Figline etc. Frederico advised us to take the train to Firenze. etc. Of course you need a car in Toscane, that's quite normal. The village Vaggio is small but Regello and Figline are nice places for an appetizer. We returned almost every evening to the hotel to enjoy the dinner. The food was excellent ! A great cook. We made daily trips and were very happy to come 'home' in the hotel for relaxing at the nice swimming pool. The rooms were perfectly clean. It was not noisy during our stay. But, yes, an extra trained waiter could support the service, also during the day.
The hotel was recommended by friends who are visiting Villa Rigacci for more than 12 years.
Marleen & Stef from Belgium (Hasselt) - we enjoyed our stay !

We have just returned from a holiday at the Villa Rigacci and feel disappointed overall. There was not one specific issue that lead us to this conclusion, rather a number of factors.

I agree with an earlier review that service outside on the terrace and at the pool was poor - you always had to go hunting for service. When you found somebody they were very attentive and helpful - there is a need for a bell or some other way of attracting attention. Also there is no bar area as such inside the hotel and areas for sitting/relaxing inside are very limited and seem to overlap with the private area of the hotel.

Our room was quite dingy with very limited views - maybe this is a feature of the fact that the building is old. The facilities in the room were very variable. The bathroom was modern but the room had poor storage facilities for clothes and there was no mirror apart from in the bathroom.

The location is very attractive but a car is an absolute necessity. It is not easy to walk outside the hotel grounds - particularly in an evening. The village of Vaggio is not particularly attractive and can be reached on foot in a few minutes by walking down the road but there is no footpath for most of the way. When you reach the village there is not much there, just a few shops and bars. Regello can be reached by car in about 5 minutes and there are more facilities there.

On the positive side the food in the restaurant was generally very good - particularly the Tuscan dishes. We had half board which at 26 Euros per person was good value, although they only provide large bottles of water at 3.80 Euros each which is expensive for 2 people. Breakfast is taken in a separate room and was OK with a reasonable range of dishes, although fresh fruit was not available every day - again showing inconsistent service.

The owners are very helpful people and willingly give good advice on excursions to places such as Florence etc.
