Hotel Parsifal Antico Convento del 1288
Ranked #5 of 21 Hotels in Ravello
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed May 28, 2014

The hotel is a family own which it makes you feel at home. They pay attention to everything that you can think of. They try to have an amazing time in Ravello and the Amalfi Coast. One night we arrived very late; the restaurant was already closed and we were very hungry and they opened for us. The location is a plus, close to center of Ravello and walking distant to Amalfi. The bus stop is one block from the hotel.

Just to add to all the praise already reported. This place is a Gem and very reasonable. The Owner Antonio and his staff could not be more welcoming and such lovely people. Could not recommend it higher...

Antonio Mansi runs a first-class operation. His hotel, a converted convent, lies in the same row as five-star properties and is close to Hotel Caruso and Ruffino which we visited during our stay. If you can't afford Caruso and Ruffino but want splendid views, great service and good food, stay at Hotel Parsifal. Antonio and his brothers make you feel at home, and provide a sense of family. Indeed we met a couple who goes there every year (once even in off-season December) because of the sense of family belonging. Antonio provides sound advice on where to eat: though Parsifal's restaurant Rafael is very good , Antonio didn't hesitate to refer us to other places to eat so that we taste a variety of dishes. But do eat at Rafael -- you'll eat well and meet interesting people there. Antonio is knowledgeable about Ravello and the region's history and makes arrangements for sightseeing, group as well as individualized.

More specific comments:

Arrival Experience: The exterior of the hotel is well-maintained and the lobby is small but welcoming. Check-in was a breeze and we were helped in getting luggage to the room.

Guest room: Spacious, clean. Bed was comfortable. Some may find the facilities a bit dated but note that you go to such a place for character. More modern rooms are available if you let Antonio know.

Breakfast: Boiled egg, fresh juices, cereals, croissants and various cakes consumed in a restaurant with breathtaking views of the Amalfi Coast. Coffees made to order, according to your individual taste. We stayed in five hotels on this trip (Bologna, Varenna, Capri, Naples and Ravello) and Parsifal was the only place that offered crepes for breakfast.
WIFI: available for free and it worked well.
Departure experience: check-out went smoothly. Antonio had arranged transportation to Amalfi for onward journey to Capri.

This hotel is exceptionally welcoming. The manager was extraordinarily helpful and gracious. We loved our accommodations and, yes, the view is breathtaking. The garden at the entrance was filled with flowers surrounding a lovely fountain. The location was ideal, very quiet and a nice leisurely stroll into the charming town of Ravello.

This place was amazing! The views, the service, the history behind the building and the location! We loved ravello and loved hotel Parsifal! Such friendly and helpful reception staff too! If we go back to Ravello which I'm sure we will this will be the place to stay - rooms had a simple, clean and classic look which was more than enough :) loved it!

We selected this hotel for a combination of reasonable price and the gorgeous picture on the website. Most everything about the place exceeded our expectations. The staff, a family of cousins & brothers were always helpful and friendly. This former convent is located in a quiet area about 5 minutes walk from the Piazza Duomo and town center. The entry courtyard is stunning with its flowers, fountain and sweeping sea views. Downstairs is a bar where you can get an espresso any time, a terrace, and a dining room boasting a full wall of windows facing the storied Amalfi Coast. Our corner room (#20) was quite large, with a huge vintage majolica-tiled bath, and windows opening to jaw-dropping sea views on two sides. If you were never able to get to the Villas Cimbrone or Rufolo--you could still enjoy tranquil views from the comfort of your own room! We failed to learn if the hotel has air conditioning, but we saw no vents. Wise to check this out before a summer visit. The breakfast was continental style with delicious cappuccinos delivered by friendly staff. We had one dinner in the dining room--and the swordfish steaks were just delicious. We would return to this charming venue in a heartbeat.

Room Tip: Ask for corner room #20!

This hotel is such a gem, it deserves only the best reviews. Further below is the longer story for why we love this place so much. But in a nutshell....

* The kindest and most helpful brothers run this place - true gentlemen
* Amazing views
* Great home cooked food
* Fabulous room (room 29)
* Packed with rustic charm and history
* Top location for seeing Ravello

We were originally booked in to another 5 star hotel moments away from here to celebrate our honeymoon. But when we arrived we discovered our very expensive hotel was all but closed. We were the only guests staying there (and twice could not get in as was all locked up with no lights on), the restaurant, the famous Turkish hammam spa - all closed. It was pouring with rain outside which we half expected for March but that's where the spa, bar and restaurant were to come into their own. But no. Think Faulty Towers meets The Shining... That was Villa Fraulo, do not book this hotel - if they were in England, trading standards would have ripped at least 2 stars from them and we intend to complain to booking.com After an argument with the owner and only a 60% refund of the £500 we had spent we rang the Parsifal somewhat bemused, hurt and very disappointed - the first day of our longed for honeymoon was in ruins. We simply asked, are you open? Is your restaurant open? And before we knew it we were booked into an incredible hotel, with a beautiful view and room, PLUS a complimentary bottle of Prosecco for all the hurt and upset on our first day of honeymoon - and it wasn't even their fault! We had a totally scrumptious dinner, joined the locals in watching Juventus playing and had lots of lovely local wine - things were looking up!

The chaps who run this place can not help but help you. Lots of advice on where to see, particularly in the poor weather. They are so lovely.

We fully intend to return, and when we do it's the only choice for us. Ignore big, faceless hotels in this part of Italy, go for family run every time. When we left there we headed to The Capri Wine Hotel Capri, and have found the same fabulous level of care. The honeymoon is on the up....

Room Tip: Some rooms are apparently better than others - the owner/manager admits this freely as the old build...
