“The best four star hotel I have ever stayed at!”
Reviewed July 26, 2013

I stayed at this property on a two-week road trip in Italy with my boyfriend and, out of 7 hotels around the country, this was by far our favourite. Don't let the Best Western name put you off because this does not feel like a chain hotel!

As soon as we drove down the floral entrance to the hotel (it's a steep hill down but attendants park your car for you) we felt as though we were somewhere special. Of course, the location has a lot to do with that. Set in the cliffs with a swimming pool and sunbathing area overlooking the ocean (the hotel also has its own section of the sea roped off for guests), there is no need to leave the hotel if you're after a relaxing, romantic getaway. That said, Minori and Positano are a short drive away if you fancy venturing nearby.

The restaurant on the terrace serves great food for lunch and dinner (seafood in particular) and the complimentary breakfast in the bar is plentiful.

During our stay, staff in the hotel, at the restaurant and by the pool were friendly and attentive and the rooms were immaculate.

We did NOT want to leave!

It was difficult to find a hotel that fit 4 of us in a room AND offered unique experiences for both adult and children. Hotel Marmorata provided comfortable rooms and bathrooms as well as an interesting property layout that kept our children (10 & 8) busy all day. The ocean access is fun for kids and adults with quick access to the pool, drinks, and snacks. It's close enough to Amalfi so you can take the ferry to Capri, Positano and the surrounding areas. You will need to drive into the area but park your car and stick to cabs or public transport beyond that. The staff is wonderful, assisting with arrangements even before our arrival. The in-house restaurant changes it's menu nightly but closes early. My only recommendation is to provide longer hours for the beach/pool attendant, specially since the sun doesn't set until very late during summer.

Room Tip: This hotel is a bit out of the way so if your plan is to have a nightlife, stay closer to Positano...

Stayed here with 2 friends. Shared a triple room, spacious & roomy with a lovely view out over the bay.
Breakfast buffet splendid, hotel ristorante excellent, convenient & staff very friendly.
Situation not good for anyone who struggles with hills as quite a climb to get up to road. Adequate bus service to Amalfi or the other towns along the coast.

The Best Western Marmorata is about the only thing located in Ravello Mare, which is atop a small hill between Amalfi and Menori. There isn't much to do at the hotel proper, but it is perfect if you just want to relax and soak up the sun by the pool or cliffside. The Best Western chain is not one I typically stay at in the States, but our travel agent booked this one in Ravello and the reviews seemed fine. I was pleasantly surprised and overall had no real complaints. The entire hotel is nautically-themed with great attention to detail in all things maritime. It was clean and our room had a seaside view with tiled floor, very small bathroom but adequate, and with a nice shower. The bed was pretty comfortable although the pillows were too firm for my taste. Also, free wi-fi, fresh towels daily, and beach towels you can check out at the lobby for a 10 euro each deposit which is given back to you when you return the towels. The hotel staff are very nice and friendly. Breakfast buffet was ample. Dinner in the restaurant was pricy but good with an attentive wait staff. If you prefer more casual dining, there is a small Trattoria up the hill from the hotel and across the street with reasonably prices. Husband and wife-run, the pizza I ate was delicious and cooked in the oven situated near my table. To get to nearby Almalfi for sightseeing, beach time, or shopping you will have to walk, or catch the appropriate SITA bus. Taxis are off the meter and outrageously expensive. The hotel offered only a limited shuttle service to Almalfi which was disappointing at 8:30 am with a return at 6:30 pm, but that is a long day in a small town. Be careful if you decide to walk (around 45 minutes) as the road is narrow and windy and no room except for single-file, and it's a little dicey with the vehicle traffic. Go visit the town of Ravello which is adorable. You can take a taxi or climb the approx 1400 steps up the mountain (if you can tolerate steep stairs and heat...take water) It was well worth the effort as the views were incredible and it was a unique experience to see where the locals live.

We were booked for four nights at the Marmarota, but only ended up staying two, as it just didn't fit our needs.

The location is beautiful, and the hotel and pool spill elegantly down the cliffs of the Amalfi coast. The restaurant food is excellent, and the staff very friendly and accommodating.

But, it took forever to drive to and from the hotel, and the little narrow roads were a nightmare. Our daughter got so car sick that we couldn't take her anywhere, and the crazy-driving, too-wide tour buses had me gripping my seat in terror. (If you do go, be sure to head out very early in the day to visit Amalfi and Positino, as they get really crowded, and there is nowhere to park.)

One last note: our rooms were dark and tiny, even though his hotel was the most expensive of our trip by far -- probably because it's Amalfi. The bathrooms were typical old-Italian-hotel, meaning they have room for a bidet, but not much else, and don't expect to be able to see in the dim light. Based on other reviews I read, there must be nicer rooms, but we sure didn't get them.

Room Tip: If I had to stay here again, I would ask for rooms higher up and closer to the ocean.

This hotel isn't going to make anyone forget high-end beach resorts, but it was one-third the price of the other properties in the area. The rooms are small and basic, but clean and comfortable. The food and service is excellent and the views spectacular. It's not well-connected to other towns on the coast, so either have a car, or plan for a beach-and-pool-centric stay.

To start off with the positives, the staff are very helpful and friendly, the view is amazing, the deck by the sea is very peaceful and relaxing, the breakfast was decent and the dining area, reception are all very nice and big and clean/spacious etc. The two main downsides were that the room I was in was very very basic, quite dark and noisy as i was under the reception, my window was by the route to the deck and my bedroom door by the lift but I guess if you get a sea view on a higher floor then this would solve those problems. The bathroom was really basic and i doubt had had anything much done to it for a good 10/20 years and was very very small, thank god i was on my own as two of us in the room/bathroom would have been a squash. The other slight downside is you really arent near anything, the two towns nearby Minori and Atrani are a good walk away via a busy narrow road with traffic and both uphill either one way or the other, you cant even walk quickly to a shop or a restaurant from the hotel and have to rely on shuttles or taxis (which are very expensive, 25 euros to go 5 mins up the road) if you dont want to walk a fairway on a busy road up a hill! To sum it up I would ask for a room with a seaview or a decent amount of light and if you think you can manage driving up and down some VERY steep narrow hills then hire a car. I didnt eat in the restaurant but the food did look very good.

Room Tip: Ask for a room above the reception not on the floor below
