We went to Italy for my husband's 60th birthday and decided to have one "upscale" meal to celebrate. We picked Il Flauto di Pan after reading the reviews on TA. We weren't disappointed.
We arrived a bit early to sit and have a drink… ordered a "spritz" which is Aperol, prosecco and soda. They served it with fresh berries and orange slices. Wonderful! They also brought over a small tray of snacks to go with the drinks. We were taken to a table on the terrace for dinner but we were also offered a table inside. At first we thought we wanted to be outside but our view wasn't great (only one table actually faces the coast) so we looked at the inside table. It was in a little alcove and had french doors with a great view. It was lovely.
The service by Diego was terrific. Our "amuse" was an amazing white bean puree with tiny mussels and calamari rings topped with a delicate fried potato nest...served in a martini glass. Unbelievably delicious. Then we had the lobster appetizer and the mushroom risotto. Also had the wine pairing even though we didn't opt for a tasting menu. The servings were large and beautifully presented.
We were too full for dessert but they brought out a beautiful sampler platter with a candle for my husband's birthday anyway. Nice.
All in all a wonderful evening.
One tip: If I had to do it over again, I would order an appetizer and a fish dish. The risotto was wonderful but it was really rich.
By the way, they seemed to know that our concierge at the Caruso hotel had made the reservation for us and that may be why we were offered the "special" table. If you're staying at the Caruso, or another nice hotel in town, I recommend having the concierge make the reservation for you.
