“Wonderful celebration dinner”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 15, 2013

We went to Italy for my husband's 60th birthday and decided to have one "upscale" meal to celebrate. We picked Il Flauto di Pan after reading the reviews on TA. We weren't disappointed.

We arrived a bit early to sit and have a drink… ordered a "spritz" which is Aperol, prosecco and soda. They served it with fresh berries and orange slices. Wonderful! They also brought over a small tray of snacks to go with the drinks. We were taken to a table on the terrace for dinner but we were also offered a table inside. At first we thought we wanted to be outside but our view wasn't great (only one table actually faces the coast) so we looked at the inside table. It was in a little alcove and had french doors with a great view. It was lovely.

The service by Diego was terrific. Our "amuse" was an amazing white bean puree with tiny mussels and calamari rings topped with a delicate fried potato nest...served in a martini glass. Unbelievably delicious. Then we had the lobster appetizer and the mushroom risotto. Also had the wine pairing even though we didn't opt for a tasting menu. The servings were large and beautifully presented.
We were too full for dessert but they brought out a beautiful sampler platter with a candle for my husband's birthday anyway. Nice.

All in all a wonderful evening.

One tip: If I had to do it over again, I would order an appetizer and a fish dish. The risotto was wonderful but it was really rich.

By the way, they seemed to know that our concierge at the Caruso hotel had made the reservation for us and that may be why we were offered the "special" table. If you're staying at the Caruso, or another nice hotel in town, I recommend having the concierge make the reservation for you.

“Only 1 Michelin star? Deserves more!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 15, 2013

This restaurant is in the Villa Cimbrone, Ravello. We booked here for our 45th wedding anniversary because we wanted something very special - we were NOT disappointed!!
We arrived early so that we could wander the gardens - we have been there several times but the Terrace of Infinity provides an exceptional view of the coastline. We were surprised to find that the hotel had set a small champagne bar up there so we were able to enjoy the view with a couple of glasses of champers - very romantic!
When our booking time drew near we went to the hotel terrace for another pre dinner cocktail, after which we moved to the restaurant terrace where we were given the best seat right at the very end overlooking the coastline with Minori and Majori towns lit up.
We selected the "Piccolo Pan Carne and Pesce" - small tasting menus for meat and fish. The somalier helped us choose a red and a white wine to match both the meat and fish courses. Both went really well with our food.
Aside from the 5 courses of the tasting menu we were treated to the chef "Amuse Bouche", and sorbet between courses.
Although the portions on a tasting menu are relatively small compared to normal restaurant portions we decided we couldn't fit in the desert. BIG MISTAKE!!! We were "encouraged" quite energetically to have desert and it arrived with candles to congratulate us on our anniversary. And we must say it was BEAUTIFUL!!!
The only issue is that the Villa Cimbrone is about 15 minutes away from the main square of Ravello where we had arranged to meet our taxi (with quite a few steps to negotiate on very full tummies!)
Still it was an exceptional meal and well worth the effort!
Taxi from Amalfi was €45 (normally 50) but we negotiated as we went to Ravello several times by the same taxi for other meals.
Cocktails were reasonably priced at €12 -15. Wine 1/2 bottles around €36, small tasting menu €80.

“Excellent creative meal!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 8, 2013

This was an excellent experience. We had been their previously and wasn't that impressed but this time the meal was extremely creative and delicious. We had made a reservation long in advance but were not able to sit on the terrace which had a spectacular view. We had been warned that they leave these for their hotel guests.
The dining staff was wonderful led by a very well-versed Maitre D.
We loved the "Tomato Soup" which was a delight and a real piece of art to be devoured.

“Delicious food, wonderful view, though not cheap”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 27, 2013

We had trouble getting a reservation initially - not sure why as the restaurant was only half full. However, we had a lovely lunch. The view of the gardens of the Villa Cimbrone is quite spectacular and made a lovely lunch even more special. Service was a bit stand offish at first - may have been because we had our 3 year old with us but there were 8 adults and 2 teenages and 1 toddler - not sure what they thought we should do - leave her at home? That said it's probably not the place for a child friendly meal. The food was lovely not tricked up just beautiful produce well cooked. The service warmed up over time. Overall it was a wonderful, though expensive, experience. It was 3 times the price of many other lovely restaurants that we ate at around Amalfi, that said I do understand why.

“What a disappointment”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 25, 2013

We were looking forward to our meal here during our stay in Ravello especially after reading the good reviews We arrived at 7 45 for our meal thinking we would have a relaxing drink first but we were shown straight to our table (in hindsight we should have said we wanted a drink in the bar) The bread and very large amuse bouche arrived quickly , swiftly followed by the starter By 8 15 we said we wanted to slow the meal down but was told we couldn't because the chef had already prepared it We said it was not a fast food restaurant but it was served anyway We have visited many Michelin star restaurants around the world and this was not what we expected I had the lamb and the potatoes were very hard My partner agreed By the time we finished neither of us felt like a dessert My partner had a coffee and we were out by 9 15

On the plus side the staff were apologetic but it was certainly not the night we had expected
